Had a great room and the view outside was spectacular! THe desk made us feel welcome and we talked to them everytime we left the hotel. Only thing i would suggest is booking this at SweetHotelDeals. N e t The rooms on there are alot cheaper then anywhere else

Never again
By ,
The hotel lobby was lavish and beautiful. My room was not. I felt like i was in the stinky underbelly of the titanic. It was very much like i imagine the servants quarters. The room was small dark and dank and the ac barely worked..

Beautiful Hotel, Great Spot, Very Friendly
By ,
We stayed at the Royal Sonesta for 5 nights in a King Deluxe room...this was my experience. PJ's cafe at Royal Sonesta was excellent. They always had a vast variety of delicious desserts like bread pudding, gourmet cupcakes, and fruit tarts. I love turndown service, coming into your room with the bed having been made and the chocolates on your pillow are great. (You have to request this service) The fitness center was accomadating, it was never crowded and they provide water and towels. The large flatscreens in the room are great, but ours "froze up" many times. The bed is very comfortable with lots of fluffy pillows. I wish the tub in our bathroom had been a large jacuzzi tub, but it was a fine standard tub. Robes in the bathroom were a great bonus. Room service was very friendly and prompt. Their eggs benedict and mini belgium waffles are tasty. The room we stayed in was clean, but definitely in need of some interior updating. For example, the wallpaper appeared to be a bit outdated and the picture on the wall reminded me of those printed dot pictures that were popular in the 90's...but that's just me. We had a very nice view of the pool out of our window, but the window was very small. The hotel lobby is so beautiful at Christmastime! The in-room safe was very convenient for us, we used it for our electronic devices. Our room was very quiet and we didn't hear any loud noises...but we were facing the pool area thank goodness. The location of this hotel is very prime, right on Bourbon street. I like this hotel a lot, I would stay here again.

Great Hotel
By ,
1) Don't put too much stock in reviews knocking avg room size. Space is limited in the French Quarter and the rooms at the Royal Sonesta are considerably larger than other traditional/historic hotels in the area. 2) The price of parking is comparable to most of the hotels in the French Quarter- so you can't fault them for charging the going rate. 3) I researched a number of French Quarter hotels and pretty much all of them charge similar rates for WiFi- so can't complain there either. 4) I can't begin to describe how much we loved the pool deck and courtyard. The Bourbon St location made it so ideal when I got tired of walking and just wanted to sit and drink...especially since Le Booze (part of RS) and a frozen drinks bar are literally right in front of the hotel. 5) we faced a side street, but the hotel was still surprisingly quiet at night and in the courtyard areas at night. 6) the staff was very courteous and helpful. 7) the hotel is very pretty- really makes you feel like you are in the heart of NOLA with the way it's designed. 8) orange trees with ultra fragrant orange blossoms in the courtyard - koi in the fountain 9) the room decor was average, but still nice and I loved the dresser in the closet and drawers in the bathroom- the bathrobes were nice too 10) you get the wonderful sounds of jazz at night without ever having to pay your way into Irvin Mayfield's jazz club in the lobby We got a good rate and might stay again if we want to be right in the middle of Bourbon Street.

You don’t always get what you pay for.
By ,
We rented a handicap room at The Royal Sonesta in March it was a good location right on bourbon st. but the motel it’s self was not so great. The shower in curtain did not reach inside the inside the shower. The rod that held the curtain was bowed away from the shower and the shower curtain. The floor in the bath room was marble and the water from taking a shower would flood the bath room and the floor was slick when it was wet. Anyway it took two days and an engineer to fix that. Then they had throw rugs in the bathroom and for anyone that is handicapped you know that throw rugs are a no-no unless there are stuck down. The toilet was very loud and the cold water handle to the sink fell off in my hand. There was no water pressure in the shower. The day we left was the day we where woke up at seven in the morning by some one pounding nails I call down to the front desk to get it to stop. I was just going back to sleep and the phone rang and it was the front desk asking me if the pounding had stopped. So I got woke up again. The lobby was nice but the rooms where bad. The hotel bell hops where about the only staff that was very friendly. It I had to pay that price I would stay on canal st for the same price but better room. I do not recommend this hotel for any one who is not looking for a nice room and is will to pay the price for it.

Nice Experience Until the End
By ,
This was our first trip to New Orleans. The hotel was nice and the service was great up until the last day. The Bayou Classic was going on and Bourbon Street was wall to wall - so much so we had trouble just getting in and out of the hotel at night. Security and the staff on duty did absolutely NOTHING to curb the people shouting and cursing and leaving trash everywhere on Saturday Night. When I mentioned I was a little unhappy about feeling unsafe and being kept awake from the inside disruptions the snippy little girl behind the desk basically called me a racist. I could care less what race someone is but when I pay very inflated weekend fees I expect to not have fire alarms being pulled and kids running up and down the hallways yelling and screaming, especially people that were not staying in the hotel to begin with. Even the singer in the bar was upset with the goings on! I'll probably come back to NO but it won't be to stay at the Sonesta thanks to the offensive little girl at the front desk and the lack of backbone the management showed in dealing with disruptions. Really a shame - beautiful place with a great location.

The best 3 day weekend I have ever had!
By ,
Location locatiopn location.....Beautiful french doors lead out to the Bourbon st balconey. ..Lots to do and see....Very charming and Romantic! For a small fee you can have room service suprise your special someone with candles and rose pettles strewn across your king size bed. . Have traved all over the world. This was truely memorable. he city itself is both historic and charming yet there is also some decadence and poverty. Bourbon st. is safe but is very festive and often crowded and loud at night.....not a problem for the young and adventurous but you may want to consider another roon away from the st. if you prefere quieter accomadations.

Nice Hotel but...
By ,
I am a repeat visitor at the Royal Sonesta. I visit New Orleans every year for Southern Decadence and this was the forth time staying at the RS. Previous years have been fine however this year I did not have a good experience. My friend and I would get ill after spending 30 minutes or more in our room (I believe it was due to a mold problem) Both of us would get congested and not be able to breath until we would leave the room and then once we returned, same thing would happen. One night I even contemplated sleeping on a lounge chair by the pool except they lock it off after dark. Also, we killed two roaches in our room during our stay. Our key cards kept demagnetizing forcing us to be locked out of our room on several occasions and had to go back down to the front desk to get new ones. The bartenders at the pool blared 70's classic rock the entire time which gets very annoying when you're trying to relax. I think next year I'll be shopping around for a different place to stay.
