There are really better choices
Location of the hotel is horrible unless you are going to the Dome. Otherwise, spend the money and stay elsewhere. The shuttle to the French Quarter is most of the time not worth the effort, the time, or the aggravation. It took 3 room changes to get one that had adequate air conditioning and didn't look like a Days Inn reject. I am sure the proximity to the Dome and the resulting inbred fans who stay there result in the hideous furniture and appointments. It is obvious that furniture is constantly damaged, most of the lamps and electrical equipment is barely funcitonal, and the bathrooms are low-quality, barely passable. Every sink in the 3 rooms that I had the misfortune to enter was cracked. A/C and ventilation were a major headache, if they worked at all, they were horrendously noisy and made sleep impossible.
Concierge hours were limited and in some cases non-existent. On several occassions, I knew more than the person behind the desk. There is only one concierge who knew anything about anything.... if you don't see an older woman behind the counter, move on, you won't get an answer to your questions.
Shuttle to the French Quarter was over crowded many times and yet they refused to get another shuttle and driver, eventhough shuttles were sitting parked and unused. It would take sometimes an hour to get to the French Quarter trying to use the Shuttle. Don't bother.... take a cab, less frustrating and takes you exactly where you want to go. costs about 5-10 per trip, but your sanity is worth that.
Mall attached to hotel is a disaster. The hotel is totally out of step with the city. It is attached to that horrible Dome and has nothing around it of interest, including restaurants. hotels, casinoes, anything..... The staff behind the front desk were not particularly helpful, were rather blase about every question, complaint, suggestion, and really didn't seem to care.
Did not partake of the restaurant, why would you in a city like New Orleans. If the restaurants were as poorly managed and the food as generic as the hotel, don't bother using them.
I know the hotel is a big convention hotel, but please, the rooms are very poor quality in need of a serious refurbishment (but why bother when they will be destroyed every football season and Mardi Gras)... I think the hotel has really cheapened its image and its property by allowing just about anything to stay there including gangs of teenagers and really dubious "guests".
I shudder to think what a blacklight would show in those rooms.... I actually checked into another hotel rather than continue staying there.... needless to say I spent a VERY long time in the shower, trying to get clean and get rid of that grungy feeling after stying at the Hyatt.
