Good and bad

The Seelbach is a really old, grand hotel that looks great compared to the new hotels built today. The lobby looks like something you would see in a movie. However, it has been my experience that the really old hotels have really small rooms, poor ventilation, and the bathroom was usually an afterthought or add-on. Such was true of the Seelbach. We had a room with two double beds and they nearly touched each other. The room was a little musty (old hotel smell) and we alternated between freezing and burning up. The bathroom was the smallest bathroom I've ever seen, anywhere, but everything was clean and neat. It's very near the Fourth Street live section, within easy walking distance. There are enough tourists, so the streets are safe, even at night. We had some folks next door that left their kids in the room while that went out. The kids got so rowdy we finally had to call the manager, twice. Finally an adult showed up. We could overhear the manager, the second time, tell them if he had to come back up there, they would have to leave. This was our first night of two. I went the next morning to the manager and they moved us to another room (my insistence) and gave me a certificate for a free night (their choice). They were very nice and apologetic. I appreciate that. Overall, it was good and bad. I would probably look for another place. The ambience wasn't worth the small room and rowdy section of town.
