Great service and location
By chalkjhawk79, 11/11/08
My brother got married at Danforth Chapel on the KU campus and my wife and I stayed at the Eldridge. We were in room 204, which is a corner room that overlooks 7th and Mass Street. Both the room AND the views are great. The staff was very, very friendly. If you are going I highly recommend one of the rooms in that corner. We "people-watched" for about an hour each night. It is on Mass St so it is very close to bars and shopping. My brother and his new wife had the reception in the "basement" of the Eldridge. I think it is the Big Six room, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it was a great reception and the waitstaff even helped box up our candles we had on the tables, which was very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel for a weekend getaway or as a wedding reception locale.

This Hotel is Haunted
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/21/08
The Eldridge hotel is in Lawrence, KS which was the site of the Quantrils Raiders Massacre. The hotel itself is not as old as the raid, but it has burned down or other wise destroyed and rebuilt several times. It is said the room 506 on the top floor is a portal to the spirit world. I stayed in room 510! I did not sleep at all. The room was constantly too hot or too cold despite the thermostat I adjusted. There was a glow all around the door way and I heard high pitched twittery sounds in the halls like voices and a sound like gravel being thrown at the door. The topper was at 3 AM when I felt the weight of a body in bed with me and had the feeling that I was being "caressed"! I slapped what ever it was and it disappeared. I took a chair and shoved in under the door handle. I regret I did not get out my camera. I believe I was alone on that floor. There were no kids staying there. I am not religious. I enjoy stories and movies about ghosts and the supernatural but I have never believed in it. Still the experience was not a dream I had not been drinking and I had a job interview the next day. It was definately a manifestation that could be called a haunting. There is also supposedly an elevator ghost that likes to change the cab's direction. That I did not experience. One other thing I could not get the printer to work in the business center

Made our Wedding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/07
My husband and I decided to get married at Danforth Capel on the KU Campus. And when looking for places for a reception we found the Eldridge. Our reception at this hotel and it was top notch. We were on a budget but it was still the best reception we could have asked for! They are able to put something together to meet any food budget and JoAnna is so wonderful to work with. If you want to have your reception somewhere where you don't have to worry about the details, this is the place. It was so stress free and beautiful - I would suggest it to anyone getting married!

Get what you pay for?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/30/07
The Eldridge is the best hotel in Lawrence. It's old, historic and right in the middle of the downtown action. Well, you pay for location so it's also a bit overpriced. You also pay for the location in that it's in an area that can be rather noisy too. The solution? If you can't beat them, join them. Have a snootful yourself and sleep in.

Amateur Hour
By Vic, 09/16/06
My wife and I spent three nights at the Eldridge celebrating our anniversary. The hotel did a wonderful job with the renovations. The rooms and the lobby look great. You can’t beat the location either if Lawrence is your destination. Unfortunately, a great building does not make a great hotel. We had a terrible experience with the staff of the Eldridge. We woke up sweating in the middle of first night because the AC quit working. I tried to call the front desk only to discover that our phone didn’t work either. As mentioned in another review, there are no curtains on the windows, so I was up with the sun on my first day of vacation. We returned to the room that night only to discover it had not been made up yet. We walked down to the front desk (remember no phone or air) to report this and re-report the phone and air problems. Everything was fixed by bedtime. The second morning, we were awakened by workers hammering on the roof at 8:00am. This lasted over two hours. Why wouldn’t you schedule roofing work in the afternoon at a hotel? I asked to speak to the General Manager and was told no, but that my message would be relayed. We never heard a word from the manager nor got any kind of apology from the front desk. On our last morning the roofers started at 9:30am and the switchboard routed several calls to my room that were meant for the manager (one was a reporter from the Journal World…boy was that tempting). At check out, we were over charged on our nightly rate (are you surprised?) and were once again told that we couldn’t see the general manager. When we got home, we discovered that instead of refunding the overcharge, the hotel charged that amount again to our credit card. We left several phone messages for the manager to call us and sent three emails. Never heard from the manager, never received an apology, and never got all of the overcharge back.

Great Location!
By AndrewD, 08/02/06
My wife and I enjoyed the great location of the hotel right downtown on Mass. Ave. We were within walking distance of hundreds of great shops, coffee bars, and restaurants. We also enjoyed the historic feel of the hotel, the bar, and the valet parking. Our room was a spacious suite and had everything we needed. Only one complaint: AC vent in our room was a bit loud for a hotel of this caliber -- but this was easily overlooked given the age and history of the building.

Noisy Room / Bright street lights
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/06/05
Stayed here for one night, Saturday. Got one of the last three rooms available, which was 307. Located above the bar. Noise pollution and light pollution at it's worst! The renovation of the hotel did not include sound proofing windows. Nor did they offer curtains to completely darken room from street lights outside. If you stay here be sure to ask for a quiet room away from street lights/Bar noise. Other wise very clean and excellent customer service. Was allowed to print my emails for free from the front desk. Breakfast Buffet great! Rgds, Steph
