Just awful
By Slick Space, 10/8/11
OMG get me out of here: there's a horrible smell throughout the entire hotel and they don't know what it is, but they claim it's safe. Right. Don't ever stay here.

Dangerously Unsanitary
By Elizabeth, 6/26/11
This hotel actually don't seem to be associated with Clarion any longer - nothing denoted Clarion on the property, and looking at the other reviews they've also been under other names, which seems pretty shady to me. I don't know how on earth this would be a three star even in the best of circumstances - I've stayed in Motel 6's nicer than this place. That, however, is nothing compared to what we experienced in the room. On our first night, we were taken aback by the apparent name change and overall condition of the place, but decided not to worry to much, and quickly went to sleep. On our second night, my husband sat in the armchair in the room, and it smelt of urine. Someone had clearly urinated in the chair, and the hotel had attempted to clean it - poorly. We decided to just ignore the chair and stick it out, but when I got in bed, I saw blood on one of the pillows! It was definitely not mine or my husband's, as I presume we would have known if one of us was bleeding, and the pillows were also changed out that day! We of course decided that this was over the line (not to mention extremely dangerous), and my husband went to the desk to complain. The clerk gave us a new room, but was completely unapologetic, and claimed that nothing like this had ever happened before. Looking at other reviews, I beg to differ. There's no telling what we might have been exposed to, and this place should be shut down. For the sake of safety, I hope that it is. Please, please protect yourself and your family and don't stay here. You'd have better luck under a bridge.

Very poor repair
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/1/09
The key entry to the back door did not work, the TV in our room was broken, there was no hot water in the bathroom sink, the sink drain leaked. I would expect these conditions in a one star hotel not a Wyndham Garden Hotel

I'll never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/08
First room they gave us smelled, carpet had a burn spot, bathroom looked worn and dirty and the tv didn't work. We requested another room, which they quickly provided. Room was fine, bathroom was clean. However, due to lack of staff, the bar and cafe were both closed both nights we were there. They refused to take anything off our bill, and refused to give us the special deal of the 2nd night 55% off, which is the reason we chose to stay at the Wyndham. There are many other hotels nearby in the same price range that would be a much better choice

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/25/07
The best part were the employees. They were, except for one, very nice and friendly. From here it goes downhill. Our first room was filthy. I don't know which was worse the carpet or the stained bathtub. Or was it the rusty sink? Then the card reader worked but the door jammed. Hotel engineer came out and fixed it. Next day same problem. Same fix. Later same day hotel engineer can't fix and as we are on the way to a Royals game we're told we have to move to another room. We move. This room is just as filthy. I don't mean dirty I mean filthy and that goes for both rooms. I can't believe Wyndham would put there name on this hotel after seeing other Wyndhams! Usually that means the hotel chain is doing well enough to not care about the customer. Just the beginning of the end. We will never stay at any Wyndham again and of course our not staying will not drive Wyndham into becoming bankrupt but I it just the beginning of the end unless they take notice and fix the problem. Makes me wonder what the other Wyndhams have become.

Very Very bad customer service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/16/07
I came to Wyndham Garden Hotel in April of 2004, and when I went in to see what room my family and I had booked I was unable to check in. They gave a reason of being to young because of the local prom students. We were out of towners, my wife who was 26 yrs old at the time was pregnant, and my two step children were waiting impatiently in the car, due to the time being around 8:00pm. They were very tired and we just wanted to get into room. I have been looking for a hotel to stay at recently, and I came across Wyndham Garden Hotel and very bad memories came to mind. Because of our experience we never have and never will step foot in another Wyndham hotel. I don't think I will ever forget the poor service this hotel gave to my family and me.

Clean, stylish and comfortable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/07
We were looking for an afordable, comfortable place to spend the night while attending an event in Kansas City. My daughter loves to unwind in a pool while in a hotel, but this was not a necessity. Reading other reviews of this hotel made me weary, but I booked anyway figuring we only needed a place to sleep. I was very pleasantly surprised. The room was stylish, beds were clean, cozy and comfortable, entire room was very clean and bathroom was beautiful and in good shape. Shower massage shower head and Bath & Body Works lotion, etc. made us feel pampered. The pool was outdoor and not very large or fancy (no diving board, etc.), but it was very clean, poolside towels provided and a good temperature (not freezing cold like it could be in KC in early June) for kids to unwind. My daughter had a burger from the restaurant that was fabulous (thick, juicy and tasted flame grilled) - and I felt the price was very fair. I got carry out from JackStack BBQ just down the road that is very popular, award winning in KC and while it was very good, I'm not sure it was any better than the food at the hotel. I know there were people staying in the room next to us because I saw someone entering / exiting, but we never heard a sound through the wall. Our room was very quiet. Now that read the other reviews of this hotel again, I realize that most of the things people complained about regarding this hotel had to do with other guests' rudeness. I think it is unfair and unfortunate to ding the hotel for those kinds of things as they have no control over such things. I got more than I expected for the money. However, do be advised that there is no free breakfast at this hotel (continental or otherwise). There is a breakfast buffet for a heafty price ($7.99 I think), but we declined. This is a very nice part of town and just off the highway. If you're looking for a resort, this isn't it, but if you need a place to spend the night, it's a very comfortable, stylish, clean hotel with nice amenities for a rate I would associate with a much lower class hotel (something with "Super" or "Micro" in the name).

A 2 ½- or 3-star property only in a previous life
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/06
The Wyndham was chosen for me by Priceline (I bid on available 2 ½ star properties), and while I only paid $53.25 including taxes for a Saturday night stay, I regret the purchase. Good points include the following: a great south-suburban Overland Park/Kansas City location, with direct access to I-435, Overland Park convention center, and major shopping areas and restaurants within one mile/five minutes; friendly front office staff, and regular nightly rates are comparatively cheap. Room was nicely furnished, with updated carpet, bedspread, and a Herman Miller Aeron chair (a pleasant surprise). The white sheets appeared to be clean. Bad points include the following: a smoky main lobby at check-in (I can’t remember ever smelling smoke in a lobby of a hotel – and doesn’t the city have a “no smoking in public spaces” policy?); fresh vomit on the carpet on the way to our room (Was the person sick? Drunk? Stoned? Probably not fair to mention, but it did add to my negative experience); hallways and my room walls were well scuffed from guest use/abuse; four large (oil?) stains on the room carpet; porcelain tub needed to be resurfaced (brown/black spots on bottom and tub no longer smooth to the touch); folk yelling outside of my window at 12:00 mid-night? Yes, the hotel was close to full, but shouting matches detract from the experience. Bottom line is that this property is well-overdue for an upgrade and should be skipped for one of the 10+ properties within a mile of this Wyndham, unless your budget forces you to stay here.

Will not return to this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/26/06
Hotel booked large buses filled with teen-aged boys in town for a football tournament. Boys were extremely loud and ran up and down the halls chasing each other through the evening and during the night. Tried to watch movies during our 2-night stay and was told the cable was out and they were trying to fix it. We arrived on a Thursday and left on Saturday - no movies during that entire time. We were very disappointed with our stay, as we came to relax and do some Christmas shopping.
