they lie and are not friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/11
If you are planning for a group of friends and family to stay at the hotel and enjoy the pool area - don't. They will tell you what you want to hear but you will end up having a miserable time.

Can't wait to go back!
By Kiedis, 4/21/10
This is the only hotel my husband and I will stay at when we visit Coralville, usually twice a year. We always get a theme room with a whirlpool, and the rooms never disappoint. The service is awesome, as is the location. The breakfast is absolutely unbelievable, with the choices and such. The king suite with the two hot tubs (one inside, one out) is a dream.....We definately recommend this hotel!

Not my cup of tea
By Xwards, 8/29/07
The decor is faux-tudor cheesy. Once you get past that, there were other serious flaws that will cause me not to go back there. First: When I checked in, they charged me $10 more than the quoted rate. I was told that a letter had come out raising the rate (even though it came out before I made the reservation). They would not honor the quoted rate. It was too late to be looking elsewhere. Second: The room was damp and had a musty smell. It felt clammy all night long. Third: The pillows were lumpy. However, the breakfast was ok. Nothing special, but adequate.

Wouldn't book again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/7/07
Everything was wrong starting with the service. I called in reservations and was given conformation on a King suit with spiral stair case, king bed upstairs and pull out queen bed down stairs with a hot tub in a non-smoking room also requested a rollaway be in the room. We arrived to none of the above and had to change rooms. To top it off the web site states kids stay free with no charge for rollaways we were charged $10 extra. Could go on but there's too much that went wrong with the weekend.

Worst Experience Ever
By nunya, 2/25/07
When we called to book our room we were told it was a whirlpool room. After traveling all the way there, we check in and find out it is not. After complaining about the room, the girl told me she didnt have any whirlpool rooms available. We decided not to stay and wanted a refund. I had to wait an hour to get the refund because they didnt have a manager on duty. Once the girl arrived that reserved my room, she argued with me that she did not inform me there was a whirlpool in our room. Very RUDE, employees. We were treated very badly as well as alot of other people that were trying to check in. They had people waiting around just to check in because they were 5-10 minutes. The continuely were sending people away because they were trying to check in 15 or less minutes early.

Not always family friendly
By Shelly, 12/22/06
We picked this hotel because it had a pool and other reviewers had commented that it was family friendly. We discovered that was not exactly the truth. On our first night there, there were some extremely loud people in the pool area around 10:30 at night. The pool doesn't close until 11 and we were fine with people being in the pool, but these folks were screaming and making all kinds of noise. We put up with it for about a half hour before calling the front desk to complain. They did nothing about it and did not even apologize to us for it. I understand that sometimes a hotel has some rowdy tenants and that can't be helped, but the staff could at least have made some effort to address our complaint. Some other comments about the hotel: The breakfast was okay - pool temp too cold and hot tub temp too high. Exercise room was nice.

Used to be a great hotel
By Dean O, 12/22/06
Used to go to this hotel every year about 15 years ago for a yearly medical trip. Service was great, hotel was unique and charming. They've whitewashed the outside since (new coat of paint) but it's seriously gone downhill. We had two rooms and each was a little out of whack. The molding around the room was unfinished, beds were old and the hotel staff was well, they looked bored to tell you the truth. Very un-attentive. Had that "I really could care less if I worked here" attitude. Granted, I've stayed in worse but, there are alot better hotels in Coralville to stay at since I was there previously.

We Loved It!
By Jessica, 9/6/06
The staff was so nice. The ambiance is unusual. The pool has this awesome pyramid sky light that rolls open on nice days. They appear to have recently added 2 new whirlpools. The included breakfast was great, make your own waffles! Our room had two canopy beds and a wall full of book shelves with - get this! - REAL BOOKS! Our room had sliding doors that opened onto the pool's deck, fun - and surprisingly not loud in the room! We had dinner at the restaurant (which has a window for looking into the pool!) and the waitress was super nice and efficient, the food was great. We definitely recommend it!

What a nice looking castle.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/05
I agree that this facility is almost one of a kind. As I've heard no two rooms are alike and we've stayed in several of them. The outside decor is beautiful looking like a castle that you don't see just any day anymore. Be sure that when you cross the little wood bridge into the lobby covering the mote look down into the water to see large orange and white/orange goldfish.
