Wedding/ Large Group Block Review
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/11
We recently were married in downtown South Bend at the Century Center. For convenience to our guests, we chose (at the time South Bend Marriott, which moved over to) the Hilton Double Tree. We really wanted to show case the best that South Bend had to offer. We were mistaken. From the initial correspondence with the South Bend staff, it was a MESS.
The group coordinator, CM, took DAYS to return either calls or emails. From making sure the guests were provided the group rate (either by calling-in and mentioning the rate, or completing the reservation online) there were constant mix-ups and issues. Most of our guests paid varying rates. When the actual wedding weekend arrived, the front desk staff constantly failed to provide our guests with the assigned gift bags and water. (Dare I think the staff just wanted to keep them for themselves, or just pure incompetency?) We complained multiple times to staff and one issue after another would arise. While the staff was apologetic, they simply were unorganized. One of our bridal party members is a hotel group exec, and frankly, WE were embarrassed by the property.
As for the rooms, they are exactly what others mentioned- old. used. worn down. smelled like smoke. And that was one of the suites. What hotel does NOT have wireless service these days? I had to plug my laptop into a modem cord which was 15 inches.
Now we come to after the wedding and I'm still waiting for correspondence reply from the group coordinator, CM, in regards to the points we were promised when securing our block. Emailed her over 4 days ago, and still no response. Surprised? No, not at all.
