Not what we expected
By ,
The location was excellent. But the hotel has seen much better days. The reception staff were busy, and not at all friendly. The concierge was a self-serve computer. The doorman was not helpful. The room was dark, and there was a large reddish-brown stain (blood??!!) next to the bed. It was advertised in the guidebook as the "most romantic" hotel. Perhaps at one time it was - definitely not anymore!!

Whitehall Chicago Below Standard
By ,
I was seriously put off. The building is aged and shows it. Cracked plaster, musty room, leaky pipe... and this was the second room they moved me to. Would benefit from a total remodel, perhaps int he near future. Will not book again.

Wonderful experience - we'll be back!
By ,
After reading some of the reviews I was a little concerned about what to expect. No need to worry. Our experience was wonderful. We booked over Expedia and paid a bit more to upgrade the room, which was stupendous, well-decorated and very roomy. Service from all the staff was wonderful. We were on the 9th floor and never waited more than 1 minute for the elevator - more like 35 seconds. We'd recommend this hotel to our friends and if we go back to Chicago, this is the place that we'll stay. Great location and easy to access all forms of public transportation. A pair of Happy Canadians!

Very good experience
By ,
The Whitehall Hotel is a really nice place with an excellent location. The staff from the frint desk, bellman, maids were all very nice and made us feel very welcome. The room was clean. We asked the maintenance man to check our A/C unit as it seemed very warm when we first got to the room, and by the time we returned everything was perfect. The only "ding" against the room was that some of the ceiling paint in the bathroom was peeling (easily remedied). The beds were very nice with soft bedding and plenty of pillows. I recommend requesting an upper floor to avoid most of the traffic noise. After reading some of the reviews here, I'm a little baffled about the lack of consistency. I got this room for a very reasonable rate - less than $200 night for my standard room. If you check in to the Whitehall expecting it to be the Four Seasons, sorry but you'll be disappointed. But if you want to stay somewhere ultra-close to the Mag. Mile that is very comfortable, clean, and a really good value, I could recommend the Whitehall.

Disgusting
By ,
Filthy, old and run-down, and worst all all roaches the size of mice in my room! Do not be fooled by the good ratings you see here- they are most likely written by hotel staff.

When we go back, Whitehall will be the place
By ,
We just spent several days in Chicago at the Whitehall Hotel. The service and the professionalism was excellent. Everyone always greeted you in the morning and evening. What ever you asked for, the staff made it happen. Also, "Ronald", who help us book our tours and had given us excellent advice. Most of all, the location of the hotel is in an excellent area of Chicago. I'm trying to talk my wife to go back to Chicago in the winter this time to see a Bears Game, but she hates the cold. Thanks Whitehall!

Was okay for the money!
By ,
I booked this hotel through lastminutetravel.com and I got it for about $120/night. Pretty good deal. The location was good. Walking distance to shops and also to the free trolley that takes you around to lots of different locations. The room was an okay size; as someone else noted, I think it's true that if you book elsewhere for cheaper, they will stick you in a room close to the elevator. I stayed in room 1008, right at the elevators door. Not too nosy, but still. Also there was a window in the room that wouldn't close and, the blankets smelled like wet laundry. NOT NICE! The bed was firm if you like that. All in all, okay hotel, great location.

Good Location
By ,
We originally booked a hotel at the Ambassador East, only to learn last minute that the hotel had an emergency water issue and had to close. Hence we ended up at the Whitehall hotel, knowing nothing about it. The staff at the Whitehall were very accomodating. The bed, pillows, and blankets were very comfortable. The location is great! Walking distance to so many places. Concierge was helpful. Staff was pleasant to deal with. The downside is that the only view we had from our window was a brick wall.
