Worst motel ever!!
By karenjn, 6/28/09
The toilet seat was broken and the bathroom was dirty. The AC didn't work at all and the towels smelled sour and had holes in them.

Whatever you do do not stay at Crossroads.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/08
We entered the Crossroads and were immediately turned off. The buildings and grounds were horrible. The office entrance was totally disgusting you could barely see through the front windows and there was a very musty odor when entering. Behind the front counter there were stacks of paper and waste. We were told that we were given a free upgrade due to another cancellation. (There were only two cars in the parking lot and I’m sure one of them was the owner’s car.) When entering the court yard the ice maker looked as if it hadn't worked for years. The concrete sidewalks were falling apart and had turned into crushed rock. The fascia above our door was falling and there were wires sticking out. Once in our room there was talcum powder on the floor and wall in the bathroom. The tile in the tub/shower had mold growing in the grout. All four corners of the bathroom floor were filthy. I pulled back the comforter and there was hair on the pillow. You could actually see through all of the sheets and towels. Plus the musty odor was unbearable. Our kids had the room next door and their key wouldn’t work. The owner came back to the room to help. Before he got there I told him there was no way we would be able to stay in such a horrible filthy place. The same night friends of ours had booked rooms and in their room they found that there was water damage to the ceiling and the room was very musty and dirty. They said that they could write their names on the dresser due to all of the filth. I have always had wonderful luck with Priceline and have stayed in beautiful motels. Unfortunately, once you book a room you’re stuck with the payment. Priceline contacted the owner and he was not willing to cancel the reservation. Priceline did help us to get a room at the Fairfield which was very clean and we had a great stay. I have contacted my credit card company and they have put the bill in dispute. I still may get stuck with paying for the rooms but there is no way I would subject my family to that. Our friends also left the motel without getting a refund. This guy probably makes more money booking rooms and then people leaving without even staying there. My hope is that they someone investigates this place and finds that the health department should shut this motel down. When entering my review it states that I have to rate it..I can't it was too disgusting!!

DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS DISGUSTING -NO STAR RATING
By THOMAS, 9/23/08
This place was dirty, dead roaches, falling ceiling, wallpaper coming off dirty bathroom floor, paper thin and stained wash cloths and towels. I would have felt cleaner staying outside in a ditch. We didn't eat their, no way. The health department should burn this motel to the ground. I wish I could have gotten a room at another motel but area was booked due to corvette show. I WANT MY MONEY BACK

Disgusting, Revolting, Nauseating, Repulsive, and Filthy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/3/06
Mold on the walls and empty beer bottles in the “cleaned room” welcomed my stay at this landfill. Avoid this place like the plague or you just may end up getting it.

I'd rather stay at the Bates Motel
By LisaH, 10/3/06
Giving this hotel one stay is being extremely generous. During our stay for a wedding in Effingham, we were forced to stay in the Econo Lodge because the Corvette show was also going on and there were no other hotels available. This was, by far, the most disgusing "hotel" I have ever stayed in. Upon arrival, we were told that we could not check in because our room wasn't ready despite the fact that check-in was at 1:00 and we were there at 5:00. When we did check in, our room was a disaster. Both double beds were stripped and the dirty sheets were lying on the floor, exposing a rotting, molded mattress. There were four empty beer bottles around the room and the sink and toilet were filthy. The entire room smelled of mold and there was visible black mold growing on the emergency exit drawing that was posted on the door. The wallpaper was coming off and stained with mold and must seeping through from the other side. No one in our party could even imagine spending one night in such a disgusting room and we requested a different room. Our new room was only slightly better but equally unsafe. The door would not lock properly and with the hotel being an outdoor entrance facility, we all felt very uneasy. The windows were covered in grime and the pool was half full of old rain water. Being right off of the highway this is one of the first hotels that visitors to Effingham see and it's a shame for this place to be their first impression. We paid $120 to stay in the most unsanitary, unsafe rooms imaginable. Econo Lodge should be paying its guests to stay there instead of raising prices when their facility is a last resort during a busy weekend!

Gross does not describe this landfill
By jamie, 9/5/06
In case the survey doesn't allow negative numbers this deserves a minus -5 stars..................... This was by far the nastiest dump I have ever rented. We would have turned and run had we not made the mistake of making a reservation after the confirmation time. I called and was told I would not be refunded at the 800 number - I was told to work it out with the front desk. Well, let's address that nightmare....We found a smashed and taped up front window and a front desk that looked like a "Sanford and Son" TV episode. I thought hotels had standards that were to be met. Oh, my wife was occosted in the 'dining area' (which was dark, but she was looking for a pop machine, by a scary looking man. The carpeting was so dirty my socks turned black from a couple trips across the carpet - but I was afraid to go barefoot. The sink and bathtub had hair, mold, and a filth ring in the tub. That dining area the next morning was nasty - we did not partake in the food..we just wanted to see if it was as bad as we thought. Please note Choice Hotels - if this is allowed in your chain, please note that this is my last time to stay in any of your inns. Why would any company allow this. Please, please, please, please, please stay anywhere but here in Effingham

The most disgusting place you could ever stay
By Bobo, 9/4/06
Don't let the price fool you - look to the Rodeway inn down the block for reasonable and clean. We have stayed at this location in the past - when it was a Quality Inn. But it had been several years since needing to stay in the area. THIS WAS A MISTAKE! From the front desk piled high with trash and paperwork and broken windows in the lobby, it was downhill from here. The room was terrible - Wallpaper peeling from a leak or flooding, Mold in the same areas, hair in the tub and sink, dirty carpet. Had we not stopped very late and had the energy to argue with the desk about a refund, we would have gone elsewhere. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE! AND ECONO LODGE - PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS LOCATION. YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR NAME ON THIS HOTEL!

worst hotel ever!
By JoaniR, 7/5/06
This was by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. It reminded us of an abandoned building that someone bought and opened as is with no repairs or renovations. We were greeted by a broken front window and a pigsty of a front desk. Hotel chains are supposed to have standards and this is why we thought we were safe, but boy were we sure wrong! We will never stay here EVER again!!! The carpeting was so dirty our feet made black foot prints in the tub! We had reserved 2 nights and left after the first night.

Horror Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/05
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The first room was so dirty with hair in the tub etc. that we asked for another room. The next room was worse yet with dirty towels and soap in the bathroom from the previous people that stayed there. They advertised closed caption tv and a pool but that was all a lie. Only one of the four rooms we booked had closed captions and the pool did not have any water. The ice machine was so dirty it had junk coming out of it. Our friends toilet seat broke right off when they lifted it up. From a rating between one and ten I rate this a ZERO.
