Run Down and Dirty
Every year around this time my family and extended family rent a few rooms for the night to gather, eat, and swim. Increasingly over the last few years we have noticed the quality and condition has been decreasing. The building looks run down. The restaurant food is mediocre at best. There is consistently food on the silverware and lipstick on the glasses. The most recent visit, in addition to the above mentioned, had the added benefit of a filthy pool. The water felt, smelled, and tasted (yes, occasionally pool water gets in your mouth) like dirty bath water. You could almost feel the bacteria sliming over your skin. The hotel management comes off as unconcerned and patronizing when issues are addressed. Overall, I would say the Alton Holiday Inn is rundown, dirty, and not familiar with basic customer service practices.
