Happy to stay there, and to recommend it
Downtown Chicago is full of over-priced hotels with bad service and poor room quality. The Kimpton Allegro is a nice change of pace to all of that.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. My check-in was fast and both the bell and desk staffs were very courteous. The rooms are on the small sode, which is normal in Chicago. However, the bed was very, very comfortable. The room had a big-screen tv, and good internet access. Overall, the room was much better than most other hotels, including some of the bigger and more famous named hotels in Chicago.
The bathroom also was a bit small, but very nicely done. They provide Aveda shampoo, conditioner, soaps and skin lotion -- which was nice. The room had a well-stocked minibar, with drinks, snaks and other potential necessities.
The hotel's Encore bar was nice. My only complaint is that the bar staff is not very prompt at tracking food and snack orders, but other than that, the service is generally good, prices are better than what I expected, and it's nice.
There is a wine and snack reception in the lobby every day from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m., and it is lovely. It's a nice way to get together with people you're with, or to meet others.
I had business associates staying in several hotels downtown this week, and they all paid a lot more for lower quality. Given the experiences of co-workers at other hotels, and my own experiences with other hotels in downtown Chicago, I'm happy to recommend the Kimpton Allegro and I do plan to stay there again.
