Waikiki Gateway Hotel, Honolulu

Do not read anything but this!!!!! We had the time of our life at this fantastic S A F E wonderful place... We are telling everyone we know to stay here... Whosoever can say anything other than highest compliments to this hotel, in every way, are excessively self-indulgent, pampered and incapable of exercising good judgement forgetting how to say anything good... Our friends, in a larger group of two hundred people, who stayed nearby at two other four and five star hotels... We felt like we were at a ten star hotel when we came back to our room (triple quad) after we were in their very small rooms... The walk along the beach was amazing to their hotels... There were fresh fruit papaya smoothies in the international food court nearby, coconut macadamia nut pancakes, japanese udon palace, korean...everything nearby, a vegetarian paradise every day fantastic... Our Waikiki Gateway home was so great...2 weeks....far exceeded what I imagined it would be...YOU will have a great GREAT time here.... BOOK DIRECTLY with them...email them in advance.....then later phone them to ask all your questions

The room was cheap,Looked nice online other than that steer clear.They get you with all the hidden costs and the new upcoming charges.Coffee is free first night 1.00 every night after.Once free breakfast of bagel,toast,egg juice now 6.99.Wireless internet they are going to provide soon for 9.99 A night.The rooms had old uncomfortable beds.only two employees were helpful with anything.The shower didn't drain so you had to stand in 3 inches water while showering.Pay more and stay somewhere else.Like the sky court across the road. P.S don't use the washer and dryers there 3.25 A load and after 6.50 to dry my laundry 1 load

The place was reasonably priced through an online travel site, however I don't think I would return unless my next choice was twice the price. Here are a few reasons why. Cons Smelled like smoke - floors 7 and 15 I think it is, can smoke. Whether it was outside or not, I could smell it in my floor 16 room no matter if the balcony door was shut or not. Room/hotel has weird odor - I think it's the cleaning products but it was so strong. Little termites everywhere - on the fridge, the beds and anywhere else. There are little holes all over in the wood furniture. Potentially dangerous wiring - we had to have them replace outlets in our room because they buzzed and didn't work half the time. There are wires for the internet that go under the edge of the carpet that should have been better concealed. The freezer was broken - even when turned to the coldest, the lack of a seal on the fridge made everything melt. You can hear every sound in the hall - especially in the mornings when the maids are cleaning, you can hear every little thing - the vacuum, doors shutting loudly, and people standing, waiting for the elevator. This was merely an annoyance but avoid the 16th floor if this could bother you. There will be people passing your door from 6:30am-9 for breakfast. Pool is tiny - and COLD! It is open from 9-9 but it is extremely cold and the smallest hotel pool I have ever seen. No wireless internet. Balcony privacy - there is a nice railing so you don't fall off, however there is only a 3-4 ft wall between you and your neighbor's balcony. This could cause safety issues for your belongings if you store a bike out there but also does not give you any privacy to sit out there. If you are on the 16th floor, the floor above you clearly sees every bit of your balcony from above since theirs is back further. Air conditioner does not circulate air - it is a window a/c that is on the floor at the end of the bed. Complimentary breakfast consists of a mini plain bagel, go-gurt, and a drink. This is minimal compared to most hotels and for someone staying multiple days, this would be tiring and not exactly healthy. And face it - staying in this hotel in Waikiki, you are probably looking to save money on anything possible, including breakfast. Pros: Front desk was semi-helpful but at least friendly. Every time I walked in, they would smile or say hello. "High Speed" Internet available in all rooms (but isn't this typical?) however it is sort of slow. Don't let their website fool you when it says 'most internet friendly hotel' I have been in other Waikiki hotels and their internet was typically faster. They do not inform you that they have ethernet cables available at the front desk and I almost went out to buy one. Fair sized balcony and they let you store your bike out on it since there is no other place. Decent distance to beach and right on the bus lines. I would not probably choose this place again, but I did get a deal of $65/night for this stay. At regular price or anything higher than what I paid, there is no way I would return to this hotel. My stay lasted 15 days so I have a fair view of this hotel compared to others I have stayed at in the area and in general.

We stayed five nights. The beds were comfortable. The room was clean. Our room had two lanai. The view was not spectacular (Waikiki and partial mountains) on the tenth floor. The staff were very polite and helpful. There is a small pool, but honestly who is going to swim in a pool in Hawaii with Waikiki (and Ala Moana beach) so convenient (3 blocks to Waikiki-through Fort DeRussy park.) This hotel is perfect for someone who wants a clean, comfortable room to come back to and crash after a busy, active day on Oahu.

The lobby is cool and the location is great, but that's about it.....even at $69 per night, we felt ripped off. We stayed here one night and left the next morning. The rooms are dark, damp, smelly and very old. There has been some remodeling, but it appears to be purely cosmetic. The beds are honestly, by far the worst I have ever experienced. Even my 6 and 8 year old kids said they could not sleep, and they can sleep anwhere. The "complimentary breakfast" consists of canned pineapple, some type of orange colored beverage, individually wrapped muffins from a vending machine, terrible coffee, and an employee who seems to hate her job. Overall, you are much, much better off paying a little more and finding another hotel.

the hotel was really nice. it had the best service than any ohter hotel that me and my family has ever gone too! starting through with the bale.The staff is so friendly especially the housekeeping manager. she is wonderfull. she gave us everything we needed. my family and i absolutely loved it! so all in all i have to say that the waikiki gateway hotel is truly spectacular!

Very happy with my stay at the Gateway. Friendly helpful staff, clean and tidy rooms, air con, close to everything. ABC store in Lobby very handy and the tour desk, too. Also free breakfast each morning great. Internet cafe in hotel great too. Highly recommend for rerasonably priced hotel.

We arrived on a Fri morning so the room was not ready by then, but they were really awesome about giving us an ocean view for the in-convienence. The manager of the hotel "Ono" was very helpful from the start of our vacation to the end. He was willing to go out of his way to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. The bathrooms were a bit a small, but trust me the location of the hotel COMPLETELY made up for it.Through our entire stay we did not have to rent a car, because it was located within walking distance of everything. We would TRULY recommend this hotel!!! I would have to say I was a bit skeptical before we left California, because of a few bad reviews about the hotel, but the stay there was wonderful. We can't wait to go back!!

hotel is in a run down condition beds so bad we had to be moved to another room beds marginally better but grotty torn curtains paint missing furniture had seen better days and was filthy if we had not pre-paid the accomadation we would have left after the first night outdoor furniture was filthy ,water running to front door after rain showers could go on definitly would not stop there again location and staff okay but nothing else

They do NOT have handycap rooms or amenities, elvator not working they did not care. Service as if they did not care. Dirty, Bed's not acceptable. We will not recomend Hotel to enyone.
