The beach, the historic ponds walkaround, the large groomed grounds, the top notch restaurants. At night the pool and palms are lit up with tiki torches and it is all so romantic. Staff was very accommodating and helpful with kid entertainment questions. Golfing, first class. We wanted to see more of the island and the concierge recommended the Hawaii Big Island Trailblazer. Inside, EZ driving directions to all the insider places. Directed us to a wild beach nearby, the petroglyphs and Pololu Valley (kids loved the hike down). Hotel beds could have been a little firmer but the view made up for that. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Absolutely loved it!!
By ,
Luxurious Rooms, awesome views, superb hospitality, and a tranquil setting...what more can you ask for in a vacation resort? Food was excellent...quiet area with adjacent reefs for snorkeling. I could see Whales jumping off in the distance as the sun went down each evening, and sea turtles lounging on the lava on the beach. I would stay there again without a doubt.

Five Naps In Four Days - Can't Wait To Go Back!
By ,
So relaxing and wonderful service! We just booked a two week stay in HI and we are going back here for one of the weeks – during which we are going to look into purchasing a condo by the hotel. The spa is great, we did an 80 minute couples massage (although the “hut” is not on the beach) and it was the best massage I ever had. I will admit the hotel is a little older and the rooms could use a little restoration but nothing major (besides honeymooners who spends much time in the rooms anyway?). The hotel is pretty secluded and there isn’t a nightlife – so this is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. There is a small strip mall down the street (about five minutes) that surprisingly had pretty good dining places (upscale sushi restaurant and a great Thai place). The hotel itself has a few restaurants to choose from – we ate most of our lunches at the bar/restaurant by the pool area. We also had a nice dinner at Canoe House and watched the sunset (The seating areas is mainly outside and is located just off the beach with an unobstructed view). The beach is very private and huge (two beach areas). One of the beaches has full service with waiters frequently coming by to see if you need anything. We spent one day snorkeling at one of the beaches and wished we had gone earlier in the week because we would have gone a few more times. There were a lot of colorful fish and coral (free snorkeling rental) and the area is blocked off from the ocean with coral which is great - especially since I watched Shark week just before our trip : )

very private and quiet
By ,
Hotel was very beautiful, loved the turtles they were everywhere in ponds , on the rocks sunbathing and all around the beach shore, I saw big ones and medium size ones. All staff were very friendly and helpful. I turned around and someone was setting up my cabana with towels, someone came every 20min to check on my thirst and hunger needs. Loved the walking trails, great place for early risers, free kona coffee, and newspaper in the morning after a walk thru a nature trail. Great thing is no one bothers you and rest of vacationers were also very subdued and quiet. If you had a nervous breakdown , this is the place for recuperation, but dont go after school lets out, hotel is kid friendly.

Like Going Home
By ,
We have stayed at Mauna Lani four times (ocean front) and we always had a wonderful experience. Over the last few years we have rented homes so we only go to Mauna Lani for anniversary dinners or the cocktail show. We have noticed that at the Hula show the little ammenities have not been the same-maccadamian nuts are no more but service in the dining room and out on the terrace is still great. there is a serene quality about Mauna lani that is no where else. We love that it is used locally and that it is not a tourist trap. It is aloha. Leslie

We go back again and again
By ,
The Mauna Lani is probably our favorite place anywhere. There are fancier hotels on the Big Island (the Four Seasons) and more kid-friendly ones (Waikoloa), but this is the perfect combination of luxury and accessibility. We got married on the beach three years ago and go back once or twice a year every year. Everyone greets us like old friends when we return. Now that we have a child, they put us in a first floor room near the pool without us even asking. The hotel is in need of updating, but overall we have no complaints at all. The Mauna Lani is both romantic and kid-friendly - how often do those go together?

A an ideal place to relax
By ,
We have stayed at the Mauna Lani everytime we are in the big island. What brings is back is the the vacation feel the hotel gives us. I have a sense of relaxation when I am in this hotel, because it's quite, the staff are always helpful, and the facilities are well maintained. The rooms are are adequate and we are always upgraded! One the best way to spend your day is at the lobby early evening ,having a mai-tai and watching the hula dancers in the lobby, and feeling that nice cool breeze from the ocean. The Canoe House offers one of the best dining in Hawaii so I couldnt ask for a better place to have dinner while at the hotel. I know the hotels' architecture is so Magnum PI-sh(70's) and can use renovation, but there will come a time when it will be timeless, just like the service and the feel everytime were at the Mauna Lani.

What a hotel!!!
By ,
My family stayed at the Mauna Lani. We had a wonderful time! When you check in, you are greeted with leis and fresh passion juice. After you check in, you are brought to your room which unfortunately is not all ocean front. Luckily, they all are nice. There are many things to do at the Mauna Lani! You can go to the beach, go to Mauna Lani Sea Adventures for a sea adventure, hang out by the pool, and much more. For kids there is Camp Mauna Lani. About the pool, it is nice. They have an adult and kid hot tub. The only complaint is that the kids one is not warm. It is the same temperature as the regular pool just it has jets. If you want a more secluded pool, there is a secret pond. Not many people know about it and it is quite a bit hidden. For dining, there are endless possibilities. For breakfast there is The Bay Terrace. It has a wonderful buffet. The Bay Terrace also serves dinner. If you want a more dressy dinner, try The Gallery. It has pretty good food. Their signature restaurant, The Canoe House, offers wonderful views of the sunset and serves the best food. It is quite expensive but probably worth it. At lunch time you'll want to go to the Ocean Grill. It has nice food and you can even go there in your swimsuit as it is next to the pool. They also have a wonderful smoothie called BangoBash. During the day, servers from the Ocean Grill will go to the beach chairs and pool chairs and ask if you want anything to eat or drink. I could go on for hours about how we loved the Mauna Lani but I won't. When planning your trip to Hawaii, you must plan a stay at the Mauna Lani. You won't be mad at yourself for it and if your rich or have lots of cash to burn, stay in a bungalow-they have butlers!
