A Wilted Rose
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/10
The people at the Makena Beach & Golf resort were friendly, helpful and very professional. The property on the other hand is like a faded rose. The rooms are clean, but do not appear to have been redecorated since the 1980's. Forget about a flat screen tv or luxury bath. The pool needs to be resurfaced and it would be great if there was a separate adult and children's pool, but there's not so be prepared to relax amid a sea of children playing. The 2 1/2 restaurants have limited hours and limited menus. The Makena Beach and Golf resort is a good, basic family hotel. I'd recommend those seeking an adult vacation check out the Marriott in Wailea. Same price, up to date hotel with true resort amenities.

luau
By penni, 6/23/08
my fmily & i went to your luau, reccommened by the hale pau hana conceiere. it was the worst, i've ever been to. in the first place, we were lined up like cattle & given a lei & our picture taken, then the lei was taken back. we were then ushered into a big room, that had no ambiance at all. the luaus i've been to were outside , with a stage & fabulous entertinment & a pig cooked in the ground with ceremony. at 86.00 aperson, we feel ripped off & definitely will never return. it would be nice if we were to get a refund since we didn't get close to our moneys worth.

Love this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/10/08
We rented 4 rooms for two week and took our family. It was a great vacation--the koi ponds, the breakfasts, the Japanese restaurant, the cleanliness, friendliness, view of the ocean, sports on the beach for our adult children, great snorkeling, the kyacks, the ambiance.

A great experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/25/08
My wife and I stayed here for 6 days and overall it was a great experience. The rooms were large enough and clean and the views from our room were spectacular! The service was always top notch so overall the hotel was a good deal, nearby hotels are newer and a little fancier but cost twice as much money. The hotels location is at the far end of hotel row and this was a big plus it was very quiet and peaceful all the time. They also have their own Lau which was great with a beatiful quiet beach. We will stay here next time we visit Maui.

Very disappointing!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/08
From the minute we arrived we were very disappointed from the spiders and spider webs all over the garden area to the musty, moldy smell in our room, wallpaper coming off the walls and mold on the wall behind the peeling wallpaper to very outdated furniture in the rooms. It was not at all what we were expecting. We walked in the room and walked back out and moved to a different hotel that ended up being $100 less per night and just beautiful. I don't know why the Maui Prince is rated as a 4 star it is far from that.

Great Value but Going Downhill
By Rubicon, 1/14/08
We love staying at the Maui Prince - Ocean front rooms in a quiet part of Maui. Perfect beach just steps from the hotel. However the quality has been slipping lately. On our last trip, the internet access to our room was broken (no wireless reception, and broadband was down), the in-room safe was broken, the room was infested with mice. We still had a nice time, but this experience was far from the high standards we have come to expect here. We heard that a new owner had bought the property, and we hope that this is not going to be typical of the new management. I have always thought the Maui Prince was the best kept secret on the island, but we weren't as impressed as usual this trip. We will certainly come again, but hope for a better experience next time.

A tropical nightmare
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/08
Attentive service and proximity to a nice beach is not enough to rescue this place from being one of the least comfortable and welcoming hotels I've ever stayed in (and I travel a lot). The rooms are strictly old-school motel: terrible bedding, unbelievably bad mattress, very outdated furniture, etc. The "spa" and "fitness room" are both bad jokes. The prices they charge for this experience are outrageous. If we had not been there over xmas week when everything else was booked, I would have checked out in a second. Never would have guessed I couldn't wait to get home from a vacation in Hawaii!

I could live here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/07
We stayed at the Maui Prince for my friends wedding and were thoroughly impressed. The service was awesome, particularly the free valet everyday, great views with a fab private beach and the restaurants are fab. It is a little isolated, so you definitely need a rental car to see the island. Other than that, it was darn near perfect!

Far from the best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/07
It's a quiet hotel with not much to do. Their swimming pool was a huge disappointment. It's small enough to fit in your backyard. For the price we paid, my husband and I expected alot nicer. We stayed there for 4 nights and no one ever set foot into the pool. Every couple we ran into tried to move into any one of the hotels in wailea ( 10 minutes away). For just $100 more you can have 5 swimming pools with a water slide at the Westin, a suit a Fairmont Kea Lani, or the stay at the beautiful Grand Wailea. I don't know why this place came recommended to us. I would love to go back to Hawaii and stay at any of the hotels in Wailea.
