Terribly expensive for a terrible experience !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/22/11
Arrival = 3 hours to get a room... When my husband went back to the desk the 3rd time and explained how disappointed he was finally given a room. We were paying for an Ocean Front = we first got an ocean view ... Had to call and complain again to be switched ... The stay was starting well ! Room service = terrible food and absolutely no flexibility !!!! Too bad for you if you have a food allergy they will not accommodate you ! They also delivered the wrong orders at times and then told me how it would be a 45 min wait to get the new one .... Room = nothing fancy at all for the price. Bed is uncomfortable. Floor is sticky when barefoot and you will dirty your socks in no time ! VERY NOISY = impossible to sleep at all, unable to go to sleep early, unable to sleep without waking and unable to sleep in either ! Today we were awaken at 2 am by a person sliding the bill under the door and again making a lot of noises ! Personnel = Very on edge, very fast to answer NO without even listening to the end of your sentence. NOt accommodating. Lack of motivation. Appear so tired and non interested ! SPA = EXCELLENT ! Restaurant MALA = EXCELLENT ! Polite and accommodating ! Delightful food ! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY IN THIS RESORT ! YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED ...

Dedicated to valley girl..
By PigskinPontif, 4/23/10
I liked: Very good location and nice room. I hated: There seems to be some high end snobbery about the place. It didn't seem to be about service, but about how much more they can charge for what. I don't know who pays valley girl's bills, but all the extra fees is perverse considering how much they charge for the place. Looks like you're brainwashed into accepting that its ok for the big shots to charge for internet and parking... I like value for my money, and consider it just ridiculous. When average hotels can offer these perks for free, why can't snooty Marriott? Pretty soon they'll charge for the air you breathe while at the place. If you think I'm whining, you probably don't work hard for a living.

Infinity pool was heavenly
By valleygirl, 1/30/10
Having stayed in Kihei and Kaanapali previously, our family of 3 was delighted with the Marriott Wailea Resort where we spent a week this summer, using our Reward Points (we also have a Marriott timeshare on Oahu). We chose to spend every evening at the glorious Infinity pool...the only one on the island, from my understanding. It was a wonderful adult-only retreat, set apart from the more bustling resort pools that catered to families. We felt like we were in heaven! The pool/bar staff was very attentive and friendly. We had no problem with the hotel staff whatsoever (in fact, on our first night, a family moved into the room next to us at 1am and the children proceeded to make noise in the room and up and down the hall all night. At 4am, I finally called security, who were at our neighbor's door within 10 minutes, to mitigate the problem). This hotel offered the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, which should be the most important amenity on any hotel scorecard. The rooms were spacious and clean, and bed linens comfy (bath linens showed wear and could stand replacing). On account of our point payment, we did get stuck with a first floor tower room with a patch of lawn facing a wall of oleander trees and no view, but it didn't matter to us since we spent little time in the room. Personally, I don't know why others leaving feedback on this hotel, are griping about the daily $15 parking fee. This is a common practice of most hotels; at the Marriott in Anaheim and other hotels, I've paid as much as $20/night. Free on-site internet service would have been nice, but we actually found it convenient to venture down the street to Starbucks every morning to log on and enjoy our morning coffee, while planning our day. Wailea is my preferred corner of the island, where the tradewinds are more regular and the mood more sophisticated. Kihei with its 50-year old hotel row, is feeling worn, and Lahaina and Kaanapali are too over-run by tourists to make a relaxing retreat destination for our small family. Also appreciate the proximity to the beach just to the south of the resort (within walking distance) and also to our favorite--Big Beach--and our teen son enjoyed being able to walk across the street to the mall. We intend to trade our Oahu Marriott time in 2 years for another stay at the Wailea Resort. Can't get enough of that Infinity pool! (By the way, if you're going to talk about value, here in California, I believe the only hotel that offers an Infinity pool with a coastal view is at a lodge in foggy Big Sur, where the pool is small and rooms start at $900/night.)

Nice place...but watch out for the hidden charges!
By school, 12/19/09
I recently stayed here while attending a conference (at the same location). Its a beautiful place with nice pools, beach, and amenities.....typical for a resort in Maui. The rooms were nice, clean and amply spacious. The conference facilities were average, and the food included with the conference was substantial. The RIP OFFS are: 1) parking for $15/day ($18 for valet), 2) a mandatory "porterage fee" of $9/person whether you rolled your own luggage or not, and 3) a bottle of drinking water set next to the complimentary coffees and teas (but not labeled that there is a charge if you drink it) in the room would have cost $6 unless you paid the optional $25/day for 2 bottles of water and 2 Mai Tai drinks (first day only). 4) Internet is $14/day 5) You may be charged a "mandatory" Resort Fee of $25/day unless you are at a certain level of Marriott membership. I suppose if you can afford to stay at a fancy resort like this, you'd be OK with all these extra charges because it's "standard" in the industry....but I just parked in the shopping area parking lot and walked an extra 50 yds; and got my own bottles of drinking water at the supermarket.

Paradise Found
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/22/09
Excellent resort property with fantastic views. Great Wailea location. Good service, clean rooms, great facilitites like fitness center, pools, etc. I highly recomment this property for families and couples alike. Excellent value for money, especially considering the deal we got through Priceline.

I dont get why everyone else likes this hotel
By anonymous, 7/21/09
...and here are the reasons why: 1.We pull up to the hotel and we are greeted by a fairly nice bellman who unloads our bags of course, but we are told that the car had to be moved immediately, even though the driveway had a ton of space, we were the ONLY car there at the time. So I am left to watch the bags for quite awhile because as it turns out, the garage is confusing as heck and the spaces are so narrow only 2 cars can fit into 3 spaces. 2. When we checked in, the girl at the desk made us feel like we were 2nd class travelers, b/c our room was paid for with points that were gifted from my father-law. Then she tried to sell us an upgrade, which we actually considered, until she said it would be another $175 a night. We also found out that the parking, which we had no choice to pay for was another $15 a day, plus another ten for some BS resort fee that which only entitled us to one lousy Mai Tai for the entire stay. 3. We could not afford an ocean view so we were put in the tower in a room one floor up & facing the lobby. Since the noise from the lobby would prevent us from sleeping, my husband went back to the desk, explains the situation and was basically begging for help. Even though we were on our honeymoon and highly preferred a King bed room, they had none left in our price tier, only $175 upgrades for an ocean front room, so they just left rooms like those empty & we had no choice but to be downgraded into a two queen room for the night. When my husband went to return the old keys there was a huge swarm of termites in the reception area and the lady just mentioned that they come every night about that time, no big deal...hmmm 4. The queen room was quiet, BUT- the A/C was broken and we had to put it down to 65 degrees for it to work at all. We needed internet access, but skipped it and used my husband’s phone internet instead b/c they want a whopping $14 a night for that. At this point, we realized that we were staying at a major nickel and dime operation. We needed to charge our phones but there was only one outlet that was easy to reach. We also discovered that the blankets, which are barely covered by the duvets they used, were gross and stained on both beds. They were also so heavy and warm we were both up sweating in the middle of the night. 5. We were gone the entire following day, did not get back till 9pm & to our surprise, Kory, who was working at the desk was very accommodating & we were able to get a new King room, no questions asked. But then we had faulty room keys that would not allow us to get into our old room to grab our stuff, so we wasted about an hour going up and down getting new keys & after 3 tries, security had to let us in. We also noticed that another customer who was checking in was unable to have the kind of room THAT SHE HAD A RESERVATION FOR. 6. Unfortunately, I am running out of room, in short- the adult serenity pool should be renamed the frat party drunk pool. Good luck finding a shady spot too. 7. On a positive note, the wait staff was great at the pool areas and the pool bartender served my husband after last call when he wanted a drink after sunset. The bellmen that we talked to were also nice and friendly, and the ONLY time we were thanked the entire stay was by a bellmen who loaded our car when we left. 8. We stayed at a Four Seasons the first half of our trip & were treated like royalty. We even got a complimentary bottle of champagne, with a personal note from the hotel manager since were honeymooners. Every minor thing extra, like internet, was free. Not once were we even congratulated by anyone at the Marriott. It does not matter what your occasion is if you stay here, they don’t care, it’s like they are doing YOU a favor for letting you stay there. Maybe we would have been treated better if we had the extra $1000+ to shell out. We are not saying that we should be entitled to free things or anything, we just expected to feel a little more welcome.

not worth the points
By vactioner, 7/4/09
the problem with this hotel is it is a little rundown (the rooms) and crowded. it is also far from lahina which is the town with the best restaurants... (about 20 miles) i would recommend looking into kanapali coast area.

Want to go back as soon as possible!
By Diana, 6/14/09
We stayed here in May, 2009 and loved everything about the Marriott! All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very relaxed atmosphere and beautiful grounds. The infinity pool was incredible. Great resort for couples. Try to get an ocean front room. It is worth it! There is a short, beautiful walk to the beach. There is a paved walk beach front that connects all of the resorts. If you like to walk or run you will love it. The mall next door has several good restaurants. We did not eat at the hotel except for breakfast and an occasional snack to try to save some money. Small refrigerator in rooms if you want to buy groceries, cokes, snacks. We will definitely go back to this resort, hopefully next year!

Beautiful Resort, service eh...
By matthewprail, 1/8/09
The majority of the people there were fantastic, but a few bad apples spoil the bunch. The bellman (Matt) was great, so friendly! But the guy at registration put the wrong room on our card (mistakes happen) so we had to go for a little walk to find our room (not such a big deal). The next morning, there was someone at the door, trying to get into our room! Apparently someone had written the wrong room number down for another group too! The people at the activities desk were fantastic as well! Sara Mater, was the one we worked with the most, we worked with her prior to getting out there so that we could have our schedule set. She was very helpful with all of our needs and booking all of our activities, we really loved her! She booked us over at the Spa, and confirmed that they would accept our gift certificate and she gave us a 15% off coupon to use (and she informed the spa of all of this). We got to the spa, I gave the girl at the desk my gift certificate and my coupon when we first arrived. When the appointment was over, she gave me the bill with my gift certificate and my coupon back, and of course I explained that I wanted to use them which is why I gave them to her in the first place, and she said, "oh well, we already printed your voucher, so you can use those next time"... So we spent the next 5 minutes debating this, until I refused to sign anything until she corrected it. At which point she went into the system and corrected it, she didn't even need to call a manager for help, she could do it all herself and she had given me such a hard time about it! Next, we ordered a picnic basket for our trip on the famous "Road to Hana", we were leaving at 6am and they said we could pick up the basket at the front desk. 10 minutes before we were ready to head down there we received a phone call apologizing for the basket not being ready (apparently the chef wasn't in, and they didn't know what had happened) so they agreed to pay for whatever meal expenses we incurred that day. When we returned, we handed in a receipt from the restaurant we had lunch at and they said they would only pay about 60% of it because that's how much the basket was. So I had to fight with them over that as well. The whole point of the basket was to save money from having to eat at a restaurant, and it was supposed to be for convenience so we could just picnic on the beach, and we wouldn't have to stop at a restaurant. Eventually they reimbursed me, but not without a fight... Overall, our time in Maui was fantastic, and the hotel was beautiful, and the views from everywhere were wonderful... It's just unfortunate that there were two or three people who caused these types of issues.

Our Favorite Maui Hotel
By Lala, 6/29/08
This is my favorite Maui hotel! The grounds are beautiful. The only problem is that the grounds are so large, that sometimes it is hard to find your room. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We've been to Maui and stayed in Lahaina many times before. But, the Wailea area is by far our favorite- if you are looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The rooms at the hotel are beautiful and classy! There is no beach area in front of the hotel- but you can take a short walk to the beach and neighboring hotels. The view from the pools is breath taking!!
