Description

At over 200 years of age, this is Savannah's oldest and best-loved inn. Small rooms and dark halls create a very cozy, colonial atmosphere in this simple brick and clapboard house, and a prevalence of fireplaces adds to the charm. The inn is said to be haunted by the wife of the original owner. Despondent over the departure of her seafaring lover, the woman threw herself from a third-floor balcony. Legend says she now resides in room 204. The basement bar and restaurant (where another ghost puts in frequent appearances) is also a favorite with locals and visitors alike.

Wonderful atmospher
By Gunners, 9/9/11
My family is from Savannah and when we go back for a visit we always go to the 1790 Inn. The food is prepared in a classic southern style and the service is always top shelf. We love the piano player that always sets a wonderful atmospher for our meals. We wouldn't think of going to Savannah and not going to the Seventeen Hundred and Ninety Inn!!

I will never go back
By Ralph, 2/21/11
The server had no knowlege of wine, the service was fair at best, and the food was extremely over cooked. I was suprised after eating there how they stay open. It was a Sunday evening - maybe the chief was off and the dishwashers had to step in - but the meal was terrible.

Big room-small price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/10/10
We called the Department of Tourism to inquire if there were any hotel specials for the night. They said this hotel was offering rooms at a discount. We got a king sized room with a fireplace, 2 chairs, desk, fridge, TV, etc. We paid only $89 for the room and we felt this was very cheap for the location, size, and history of this hotel. The service was excellent and the pub was quaint. We would stay again.

Poster Bed Pretty
By Unhappy Traveler, 10/18/09
The carpeting smelled, the glasses were dirty, no hot water and old food left in Bar. The Bed was comfortable which was a good thing as I was to tired after exploring town to care to much. For the price I would not come back. Service was extremely poor and the continental breakfast was so bad I grabbed a donut at 7-11 which was better than anything at the hotel

Beautiful Hotel
By Nick, 5/26/09
The Seventeen Hundred Ninety is one of the niceset hotels I have ever stayed in. My wife and I stayed in room 206 during New Year's 2006, and it was great. The price was very reasonable, being less than $150 a night during that time of year and being downtown Savannah. The room does not have any windows, so we could just leave the modern world outside and focus on the 18th century atmosphere. We cannot wait to go back, and hope we can make the trip from Colorado in March.

great location but pricey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/06
We stayed at the Inn this spring and had a wonderful time in Savannah. We actually stayed in room 204 which is the 'haunted' room, but we didn't have any interesting or strange things happen. I did however think the room was a little 'tired' for the $225 that we paid to stay there for one night. The wallpaper was peeling off in one section and the drapes looked like they had been there since 1790. The price did include breakfast and parking which was nice although the breakfast was a buffet and was just okay...not fabulous. The location of the Inn however is fantastic, and you can walk everywhere in the downtown area.

Romantic Get-away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/1/05
We were guests 10+ years ago and it was excellent. Very romantic! Our room had a fireplace, and on the table was a bottle of wine and two wine glasses waiting for us!

Worth the money!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/1/05
We found this inn over the internet. It is loaded with history and is in the heart of most of Savannah's historical and ghostly sites. The staff was polite and attentive; the building itself needs some TLC, but the size of the room, the location and the working fireplace are huge plusses. We would definately go back. FYI - be prepared to walk some steps. Watch out for the ghost of Anna!
