BEST WESTERN PLUS Orlando Gateway Hotel, Orlando

We stayed here on our first trip to Orlando...very disappointed. Musty/mildew smelling rooms (we had to switch rooms twice), horrible service at the front desk and in small restaurant (we left one night without even eating because there was only ONE employee in the ENTIRE restaurant- no kidding.) The hotel itself is very far from main attarctions (except waterparks). The hotel does offer a free shuttle service with very limited departure/arrival times. Walking to restaurants and shopping areas is possible, but very long and not ideal, especially with kids and if you've had a long day. Taxis are VERY expensive - we learned the hard way. I thought a modest hotel with some amenities would be appropriate because I figured a hotel was just a place to sleep, shower and keep your things while on vacation. What I didn't realize is that comfortable sleeping and showering arrangements are important. The parks close somewhat early and we were bored at our hotel once we returned. The pool is adequate, but not what you would expect being in Florida. This hotel does NOT offer any kind of free breakfast -- not even free COFFEE. Plan to pay a lot if you choose to dine in the poorly staffed restaurant or if you buy snacks from their small store (their store doesn't even stock chewing gum!) Very disappointed - if you have children or want an easy, comfortable stay, this is not the place for you. Next time we will spend a few dollars more for a hotel that caters more to its guests and is also closer to the downtown area. Feel I should also mention that the Internet was down in the hotel our entire stay - they offered no apologies and never bothered to check into it.

Shuttle made a full bus of people wait 20 minutes for 4 others, while hotel staff chatted with them. Telephone connection was horrendous. I could not get room service dinner at 8 pm or anyone to speak to, since there was only 1 person on duty in the restaurant and he was helping someone else - had to call back numerous times and phone just kept ringing. No wireless in room. Wired internet didn't work. Wireless in lobby worked intermittently. Only 1 packet of coffee in room. Coffee maker squirted hot water everywhere. Couldn't get a quick breakfast at cafe shop. Coffee creamer in shop curdled. Just a nightmare.

Good location, clean hotel, security is very good! Great spa's, 2 of them...very private! No bugs, friendly people, close to Univeral and across the street to Wet n Wild. I liked this place for the price! Great for family's!!!

Our room was clean with nice ammenities such as a microwave and mini-fridge. The front desk staff was always helpful and ready to accomodate. We would stay here again.

I had read all of the reviews and was ready to look elsewhere on arrival.I do not know why such bad reviews were given hotel very clean room cleaned every day service from staff excellent the only bug bear was the shuttle for disabled which was on an answer machine and we only had it once in 14 days.thanks to all staff see you next year.

I stayed at this hotel in March of this year. The outside of the place is clean and well kept. Nice amenities, pool , jacuzzi's etc. Our room was another story. The hallways were smelly. The bathroom was disgusting. I put down a towel in the tub before using the shower. There were holes in the walls, mold and just plain crud, especially in the bathroom. Nothing extra, no bar fridge, microwave, etc. We thought we were about to check into a really nice place, going by the lobby. What a surprise when we landed at the room.....yuck!....BY the way this place had received 4 stars out of 5, higher than the place I stayed on my next Orlando visit, owned by the same chain, just down the street, not nearly as nice on the outside. Just goes you can't tell a hotel by it's cover.

We were staying at the "grand" you know what at Disney. I was so sick of it we have been there many times 4 kids we know every inch of the place. We had 4 days left in Disney,and I have had it the hotel is over rated and a joke. We travel all over and stay in 4+ star hotels. So I wanted to leave and go back to NY, but my husband said...lets look around before we just pack up. We got 2 rooms and I was surprised. this place was CHEAP CLEAN SIMPLE, and THE KIDS LOVED IT!!!

I love the location of this hotel. The staff were great and very helpful. Very clean, comfortable, great rooms, and overall view of hotel was sharp and clean. I would recommend to anyone that wants a great hotel at very great price. We plan to visit again this year because our experience last year at our yearly vacation was awesome. Love every minute of it. The only thing I dislike was the no complimentary breakfast. Overall the experience was great!!!

We booked hotel trough the Clarion website which included passes to theme parks. Upon arrival we were told we could not receive passes until next day because the woman who gives them out leaves at noon everyday. Check-in is at 4PM so what sense does that make. It was a waste of a first day. The bathroom was disgustig. Stains on sink, hair in drain, toilet clogged on first day! They did not change sheets for entire 6 days we were there. The room had a smokey smell to it as well. Pool was average although we did see a floating bandaid. The only positive thing I can say is about the bellman who was always quite helpful to us. Bottom line even if you are on a budget find another hotel. It's just not worth it to stay here.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and will keep coming back. We stayed this past saturday night and we have rebooked for next weekend for a special event. The front desk clerk and bell hop were outstanding, very friendly and helpful. We needed a cab and they got it for us immediately. I have seen other reviews with complaints of the rooms being dirty but I have never encountered this, ever. Also, the bed was very comfy, my husband commented that his back felt better than if we had slept on our bed at home. My only complaint would be the pushy resort salesperson, trying to get you to go on a tour of a resort. He was really annoying, but we just told him no and walked away.
