Excellent Resort, Great Value
By J.O., 03/03/09
First, anybody giving this place less than 4 stars probably whines about every little thing in their life. Most places would charge $299/night and you can stay here for

Just Average
By Cris, 01/15/09
The location of the hotel was great, very easy to get to the local attractions. The staff was very courteous and polite. The housekeeping services were fair to poor at best -we stayed there 6 nights and had to ask for many things. They made the bed and that was about it - that was a little disappointing. I expected that they would at least restock the coffee supplies and remove the dishes from room service. I would suggest eating somewhere other than the hotel - the food is ok but nothing great for the prices and there are many very good places to eat close by - I would highly recommend "The Old Tavernier" in Islamorada - the food there is excellent as was the food at "Bayside Grill" which is just up the road from the hotel. We would stay here again, but I would be much more assertive in trying to get the housekeeping staff to do their job. Room was nice - if you want a nice view you need to be on at least the 3rd floor on the bayside.

Close to Nature
By bob k, 03/30/08
While the room wasn't the greatest or the service, the "extras" were nice. We took a eco tour from the beach and were very please at the information and the sights. The beaches though small have a tide pool atmosphere and we were able to see some nice ocean creatures. The room itself was cramped. The refrigerator didn't work, there were Few towels, it was not cleaned well and the construction traffic and noise were very annoying. Only one restaurant was open and it's options weren't great. Thankfully there are many nearby places to enjoy the bay and dining. The beach bar couldn't provide food while we were there and there were not indoor bars open.

Fair
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/22/08
Just got back. The rooms were musty and the floors were dirty. Despite what appeared to be open rooms we were told there were no rooms available to switch to. A resort fee was added with no advance warning. Covered the beach chairs and towels. Had to ask several times for towels to be brought to the beach. I left before they were brought. Common areas were clean. They were adding sand to the beach when we were there. You had to avoid the bull dozers while walking around the beach.

poor value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/08
We had a second floor suite at 441 per night. It had been "renovated". Even after the renovation, the place is shabby. No microwave. If you want something you have to call room service. They charge you for everything. I was supprised that I didn't have to pay for ice from the ice machine. It's that kind of place. In my opinon the service mediocre and I would never go there again. It is obvious to me that the "renovation" consists mostly of a coat of paint. Even the paint was poorly applied. The renovation was supposed to be completed by the time we arrived but to our supprise, all of the restaurants, except for the cafe, were closed. Room rates are understated because there is an 18 dollar per day resort fee. This pays for a towel at the beach I presume. You can get a good room at the Sheraton Park Plaza hotel in Knightsbridge, London, for less money and much better value.

Best Vacation Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/07
What a beautiful resort! I found nothing but relaxation there. I had a beautiful room overlooking the Florida bay. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. I slept better there than I do at home. The whole staff was amazing. This was the first time I have ever traveled alone and I was treated like a queen. The beach is a beautiful white and not rocky at all. The restaurant and bar staff were some of the friendliest people I've ever met. If you want to relax and enjoy yourself go to this resort in the off season.

Watch the extra fees
By Beth H, 09/03/07
You do have to pay an additional $18/day in service fees which gives you free wireless, free local calls... Our first room was musty and damp and the front desk immediately gave us keys to another room to make sure that one would be OK and it was fine. The pool is VERY nice (they have one for adults and one for kids, both with a waterfall) and there is onsite snorkeling but it is on the gulf side so there is not a lot to see.

Rough around the edges.
By jeremie, 08/25/07
Service was largely unobserved, as we only dealt with staff during check in, which went quickly and smoothly. The room and facilities were clean and free of trash. The hotel is surrounded by lush mature palms and tropical plants. The grounds between the hotel and the water has large gumbo limbo and banyan tree with boardwalks and mulched trails leading to one main beach and several smaller more private. The feel is very natural and appropriate to it's geographical location. It's clear there has been recent renovations to the rooms and the facility, although some it has been sloppily done. My only major complaint is the condition of some portions of the boardwalk. Large sections are covered with mold which becomes slippery when wet. Also many boards have wasted away, creating gaps which are hazardous, especially to children. There really is no excuse for this kind of neglect.
