BEST WESTERN Oceanfront Resort, Surfside

This hotel was perfectly located, on the ocean in a high end neighborhood. A grocery store is located one block away, along with all facilities required, great restaurants, drug store anything needed within walking distance. The hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. Hot and cold continental breakfast was available every day until 10:30 so you did not need to get up very early to take advantage. Our room had a full kitchen if you wanted to cook for yourself and avoid restaurant food. Our room had a breathtaking view of the ocean and with a few steps we were enjoying the beach and the lovely water. We were just here for Christmas and we had a fabulous time, would go back again.

The Good: Great beach, good staff/service, large rooms, full kitchen,Publix 1 block away. Walk to many resturants and shopping. The Bad: parking can be tough, noisy on the weekends. The Ugly: gas stove! We were moving our daughter into the University of Miami and decided to spend a few extra days at the beach! All in all not a bad place, a bit rustic but that added to the experience.

Incredible that Best Western patronizes this hotel. This can't be called a resort. Continental Breakfast is a shame. Corridors to rooms could be found in youth hostels in Russia. It is a hotel that belongs to a fourth world country

Great location for beach lovers. Simple clean spacious rooms. I'm a business traveler and have stayed here 3 years in a row. Continental Breakfast is great right on the beach. Close to South Beach night life.

The most off-putting thing about this hotel is the smell. The mixture of damp and mouldiness was enough to make me gag. The windows in my room were sealed. Be aware of the following: * Odd number floors have smoking rooms. * Valet parking is an extra $ 15 + taxes per day. * Allow 30mins - 45mins for Valet parking to retrieve your car. * Wireless internet is available on the first 3 floors (Floors 4, 5, 6) only and in the lobby/pool area. No wired internet in the rooms. One (yes, only one) ethernet cable in the lobby. * When you check in, they require a $ 20 deposit for incidentals etc. If you pay cash then they do not allow international phone calls from your room. If you use a credit card then they do. * If you use the safe in the room, you get charged extra $$$ when you check out. No-one had mentioned this before check out. The only redeeming feature of this hotel was it's location on the beach and proximity to South Beach. My employer paid for my trip to a conference but if there is a next time, I'll pay the difference for a better hotel.

Too late with our travel plans to secure a reservation at our favorite beach front resort, we settled for this Best Western, having read that they just spent millions in renovations. We spent the whole week trying to spot the renovations. On arrival, we were greeted by a not so friendly desk clerk who pointed us in the direction of our room. Immediately upon opening the door we were hit with a very, very strong gas odor. There is a small gas stove in the 2 room suite with kitchen and the burner was left on with the pilot light out. Maybe we over reacted to the potential for an explosion, but the staff acted like it was an everyday occurance. After about an hour with all the windows and doors open, we could sit in the room without getting a headache and after three days the odor finally left the room. They offered us a different room but it was pretty dirty so we just aired ours out. There are 2 pools, one pool appeared as if it hadn't been cleaned in awhile so we used the pool at the hotel next door. Continental breakfast was included. I got their at closing time so I got to see them bag up the bagles to put out again the next morning. The message here is, go late to the breakfast if you want a better chance at a fresh bagle. The hotels just north of this one are pretty ritzy and very expensive. So for less than 1/2 the price - we got the same beach! But next time we'll pay twice as much and get an upgrade.
