Cabot Lodge
Our family spent 2 evenings at Cabot Lodge on Raymond Diehl Road this past weekend. It was a very pretty hotel and the rooms were affordable. We received a discounted rate because we were with the taekwondo tournament in Tallahassee. A friend booked 5 rooms, including 1 for us. We all wanted to have rooms close together. The rooms were booked via telephone 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived, one of the other families who had been booked on the same reservations as us were standing there looking quite upset. Seems our reservations had been mixed up with someone else. Two other families from my son's taekwondo school had made reservations and then later cancelled but they had different reservation numbers. Somehow they confused the reservations and cancelled 2 of the 5 rooms my friend had reserved for us and we had no room. The 2 gentlemen there seemed a bit frustrated but did manage to reserve a room for us and for the other family who also had no room. I felt like the 2 gentlemen really didn't appreciate the inconvenience but at least we did end up with a room. The room was extremely humid and the bathroom fan did not work, so after the 4 of us got showers the window and mirrors would fog up and we had no way to ventilate the room. My son closed the bathroom door after he came out and it locked. It took over an hour to get someone up to our room to unlock it with a key and we were reminded not to let it happen again because it was late in the evening and the guy was about to leave. We had just checked in and 2 of us sat there about to die to use the restroom after our 4 hour long trip until the man came to unlock the bathroom door. That was a long hour, lol. The other families who were with our group had gone out to eat and weren't in their rooms, so we weren't able to go to their rooms and ask to borrow the bathroom facilities. Apparently the door locks from the inside if you close it and unless someone is in the bathroom you cannot unlock it :oP. We had no idea. We also weren't able to get rooms close together and ended up being on different floors. We did have plenty of towels and washcloths and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. They also have complimentary cocktails from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The beds were comfortable and clean and we had a nice view outside our 3rd floor window. The children had a blast playing in the pool the next evening after the tournament while the parents sat in a nice screened in porch next to the pool and socialized. To begin with things didn't start out too good when we first checked in, but the rest of our stay was good except for the bathroom ventilation problem. We will consider staying at Cabot Lodge again at the next Tallahassee tournament but I will make my own reservations and will confirm them before we leave home. Hopefully the bathroom fan will work next time.
