Magnuson Hotel Clearwater Beach, Clearwater Beach

The hotel is in a good location and the staff was friendly. The hotel was dirty, smelly, had no view and was in disrepair. The maid did not come in every day. The door handle was taped on and fell off in my hand. The faucet took two hands to turn on and had covers missing. The wall had something splattered all over it. It was discusting. We would not have stayed there if we did not have to.

very nice place tobe on vacation..everything close by / beaches/shops/restaurants/club/ etc just a few steps to the beach and your in the sun..the manager at nightshift was greatperson very friendly...i gave it 2 thumbs up..way to go Dave at the front desk

WOW! My family and I loved the Red Roof on Clearwater Beach! I have stayed here many times over the years and have always had a great experience for the most part. I see the reviews that bash the hotel and must say "You get what you pay for." I made the mistake once of booking online on one of those hotel booking sites, to save a few bucks and got a room that was no where near as good as the one we normally get. I asked why and was told that when booking online they have "economy rooms" that offer no views, no extras and really nothing but 2 beds. These rooms are the "cheap seats." I was the stupid one for doing it online, the price difference was only 12 bucks a night compared with booking directly with the hotel. Lesson learned. The hotel is old, in fact nearly ALL hotels on Clearwater Beach are old. Things break sometimes in ALL hotel rooms but anytime this has happened here, we called the front desk and the problem is fixed right away. The area is however very well taking care of. The hotel pool is by far the largest on the island and the water was refreshing and clean. Housekeeping was very friendly and cleaned our room nicely. The only time they didn't clean our room was when we had one of those "Do Not Disturb" signs on our door. When that's on they are not permitted to enter the room. Now, the main reason we keep coming back to this hotel: The front desk staff is awesome. Especially, the evening guy "Dave." He always goes out of his way to make sure we have whatever we need. If something goes wrong he takes care of it. His knowledge of the area is unbelievable! He always has a sugestion of things to do "off the beatin' path." I've stayed at plenty of high dollar hotels and never have been treated as nice as he treats us. Whatever you want to do or are going to do while in Clearwater Beach, ask him first because he knows about deals, coupons or if its even worth doing. So, to sum it up, spend a little extra for an upgraded room and you won't be complaining later. Don't expect a five star modern room with a flat screen tv, it's just a simple room with a kitchen that includes dishes (what a time and money saver!) Ask if you need something and enjoy the beach!

Location was awesome. The beach is right there in front of the hotel. The people that worked there were very nice and friendly, Cathy at night was very nice. We were kind of up late drinking and she found a place for us to hang out that didn't bother the other people staying there. Rooms were a bit outdated but they were clean and didn't smell, which is important. The pool area was nice and clean.

Our wedding was in Clearwater Beach and we had several families come in from all over. We had about 29 rooms. The Staff was amazing. The rooms were clean and we did not spend to much time in them we all busy around the pool. Thankful there were No Bed Bugs!! I was very happy about that trust me!!! We will be back to stay!!!

Bottom line: The place was clean, affordable, and within walking distance of everything fun on Clearwater Beach. I had a great room with a gulf view and could see the sun setting from my window (if I had been in the room) except I usually was at the beach which was right across the street. The only mistake I made was bothering with renting a car since I really didn't need one. Next time I'll take a shuttle from the airport and spend my rental car money more wisely on mojitos!
