The Breakers Hotel and Suites, Rehoboth Beach

WE STAYED HERE FOR 3 MINS. WE BROUGHT OUR DOG AND THE ROOM SMELLED LIKE URINE. IT WAS THE WORST SMELL, IT WAS LIKE BEING IN A DOG KENNEL. IT IS A GREAT PLACE FOR LOCATING AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PET. WE STAYED AT THE AMERICAINN, 10 MINS AWAY. THEIR ROOMS WERE CLEAN AND THE STAFF WAS FRIENDLY.

about 4 years ago we had a siute and enjoyed ourselfs.Today (6-9-09) we just got back home from staying at the breakers & we were not 100% satisfied this time around. DISLIKES :We had a standard room w/ 2 full beds one of the beds had a metal peice sticking out from the bottom & we walked into several time & broke/tore our skin on our legs, they did not dust any peices of their furniture,the bathroom was small, indoor pool was small,the towel and wash rags were rough to dry/wash your face on,2 adults with 2 children stayed and they only gave us 2 wash rags, The smoke alarm went off while taking a shower scared my whole family thinking there was a fire, we called the front desk to make sure if all was okay their response to us :uhh as far as I know there isnt a fire so they sent up the sec. gaurd with a battery that did not fix it, so they sent a maintaince man in to replace it what a inconveice and scare ! they decuted 10% off from the bill but treated us as if we were the problem asking for/complaing about the inconviance/scare. when we got the bill at check out time the credit did not show up as a mius and looks like the 10% equals up free room tax basically.They hire nothing but mexicains who like to speak spanish and stare at you every time you go outside of your room, at night time other people staying there were loud, the white tiles by the front door and balcony doors are slippey we threw out towels down to be safe and blocked the balcony door with a chair so our small children wouldnt get hurt, the tv was small with a cheap small remote no hook ups if you want to add a game console or dvd player, the beds are old and one of the white sheets had a yellow stain.Cont. Breakfast room there wasnt a place to sit you need to take it to your room and there are not any trays to help you carry it to your room. LIKES: 2 blocks from the beach we walked but they have a a person waiting in the parkinglot that can give you a free ride on their bike wich can hold about 3 /4 people depending on size & how much beach stuff your are taking with you, Last day /check out time is at 11 am you can still leave your car in their parking lot and go to the beach come back and wash off in a shower room. our family did not do this we just left at 11 am. They slupply a beach umbrella and chairs but you neend to go to Alantic Sands Hotel.You carry it to the beach and set it up and you are responsible to carry it and bring it back by 5 pm.

Loved the proximity to the beach and boardwalk (only two blocks). Right in the center of the village among all the fine dining and shops. Bathrooms were smaller than expected but loved the upgraded amenities available. Staff was friendly and rooms newly renovated. Housekeeping did a great job, the room was spotless. We stayed here last year and the pool was in need of renovation. Noticed the entire pool area has been completed over this past winter.

the room was bad. not vacummed carpet. cobwebs yellow stains on the sheets. it wasn't safe. batroom door was shattered. there was hair on the floor and shower. there were fleas. pool water was cold. i wouldn't stay here again.

Stayed in the new King Sized Room Suites following recent renvoation. The King Suite room is two rooms which are large with a double balcony and a seprate bedroom area. The living room had a queen sleep sofa that was great for kids. TV's were in each room. There is a safe in the bedroom, but it is small. Enough for a kid's gameboy and a camera, but not much else. The kitchen area had good storage, medium sized fridge, micorwave and coffe maker. Only thing it needs is a sink to make it complete. The bathroom was quite nice, but the plug in the tub (which doubles as a jet bath) would not seal so you couldn't take a bath (renovation problem perhaps?). As noted by others, the continental breakfast is actually items that are individually wrapped (think vending machine), though they had fresh bagels and toasters available. Coffee, orange juice and apple juice were available. It's included in the room so it was fine to take a couple of items down to the beach, but if you want something more substantial, you'll need to look for a cafe. The pool on the top floor is indoors and can be very warm. Be warned, this is a small pool with a maximum depth of 4'. No lifeguard on duty or needed. Fine for small children though, but you need to watch them. Only real problem was that the sliding doors in the area of the pool hardly opened and were jammed in place most of the time. That can be a problem on a real hot day as you can't get ventallation into the area. This area needs a renovation. The positive is that there was a toilet area next to the pool (great for parents to keep an eye on the kids heading off to the facilities). There is also a work out area attached next to the pool. Not bad all in all. The hotel is about 2 large blocks from the beach. Not bad at all, but if you've got small children or if you carrying a lot of toys, backpacks, umbrella, down to the beach, it does feel a bit long. Restaurants are fairly close and attractions such as Funland are only a couple of blocks away. Be warned though about two noise issues. Firstly, the fire station is next door. When the siren calls for the volnunteers it is load. I mean LOAD. Late in the evening (such as 10:30PM) it will wake you up and the kids. It doesn't last long, but the shock is most disturbing. To be fair, the hotel has a warning about this in their brochure. Second issue is the recycling. Behind the hotel is a recycling area and the trash/removal trucks show up at 7:45AM or so in the morning to dump. This was not a problem for us since we are early risers, but it would be rough for those who like to sleep in as they are dumping the recycle materials for about 15 minutes daily or every other day. The staff was mostly friendly and tried to answer most questions about local sites, services, restaurants, etc. The only downside was the cleaning staff. They frequently didn't clean very well and they didn't wipe tables down (small one in the room for eating at) or empty the coffee pot or leave cups, etc. One morning they didn't make the bed either. When called, the servcie staff responded quickly to correct the errors, so keep this in mind. All in all, the price was good and the location was fair though a couple of blocks to the beach can be a bit much with a lot of material or small children. Service and cleanliness need improvement and the pool area is good, but small and needs some renovation. There isn't a cafe or restaurant attached so expect to eat out. The King size suites are very nice and the renovation of these rooms was well done. Hope this review helps.

Let's get this out of the way up front. The Breakers is no fabulous ocean resort. It's a very very basic motel with an indoor pool. That all being said though, I have found the Breakers to have consistently the best accomodations to be found in Rehoboth. Yes, for some reason they gave themselves a pretty new and big lobby/check-in area. Yes they began renovating their rooms. But with these renovations, they have also raised their rates abnormally high. And I think they need to check this seriously before next season so they don't risk alienating long-time customers like me who stay 5 or 6 times a year. During my first stay of the spring/summer season in April, I called to make a reservation and later in the week when it looked like it would rain most of the weekend, we decided not to change our plans because the Breakers has an indoor pool. However upon arrival, we found out the pool was out of service, and had been for some time. Had we been told about this upon phoning in our reservation, we could have made a better decision. I wrote to them complaining of this and they offered me 20% off of a stay anytime between October 2006 and April 2007. So I believe they do listen. If you have a complaint, make it known.
