10 reviews for Holiday Inn New London, New London
Bait and Switch..then BEER PARTIES all night?
By LAWRENCE C, 08/13/08
The Holiday EXPRESS is in Mystic....The HOLIDAY INN is in New London....WE stayed at the New London HELL HOLE...We saw the ad for $69/night rooms which jumped to $129 when we arrived due to only a few rooms left.....ok, we were going by the in-town ferry to BLOCK island..and this hotel was close...so we stayed in a smoker's room...still not preferred...but ok....then at 2:45 am, guests in the next door room had put up a sign in their open window of " BEER STORE OPEN" and partied loud and long till we left at 5:15 am.....after we had called the desk twice.......and as we left, the desk stated they could take a few bucks off the bill....The next night we stayed at the Mariott in Mystic....SAME PRICE...(we did not think it could be but it was)...and we had a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, 4 poster bed in a converted 1771 mansion with a breakfast including eggs,bacon,waffles,pancakes.....and a complimentary Bottle of a choice of 3 wines......NO COMPARISON FOLKS....DONT do the hell hole in New London.....I'd have spent the extra ten minute (tops) drive to go back to Mystic, Ct

Would Go Back In A Heart Beat
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/07
My fiancé and I booked our vacation through Price lines “pick your own price” option. When I saw that we had booked the Holiday Inn I began reading reviews and was absolutely horrified. Everything I read said that we had picked quite possibly the worst hotel in Ct. I almost wanted to cancel my trip to avoid spending four nights in a dump. When we got to the hotel, however, it was nothing like the reviews had said. The receptionists were prompt, friendly and even gave us a list of the local restaurants to assist us during our stay. Although our room was on the second floor the lack of an elevator was never an issue. (It would seem a little silly to have an elevator in a building with only two floors). The only noticeable smell in the building was of chlorine from the pool. Our room was not only smoke free, but immaculately clean and housekeeping was wonderful keeping our room stocked and clean all four days we were there. Although we didn’t eat at the hotels restaurant, (we had had bad experiences with the same restaurant at other hotels) the lounge staff was friendly and the Outback Steakhouse was wonderful (we had the friendliest waiter ever). Overall our only complaint was with the exercise room. It was the only room in the hotel that smelled musty and the equipment didn’t work right. But to be fair of everything that could have gone wrong not being able to work out on my vacation was probably a good thing. The location was perfect, right off I95 and only exits away from Mystic, Ocean beach and other popular tourist attractions. For the price I paid (under 80$ a night) I would go back in a heartbeat.

will not go back!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/07
We booked three rooms and what a dissapointment. All three rooms smelled awful (very musty. It took like 5 times for the toilet to flush properly. Although we only stayed there for one night that was enough for us. We will never go back there again.

This hotel isn't as nice as I thought it would be.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
Let me start off by telling you that this was not the first time i have stayed at Holiday Inn in New London, CT. I went here about 2 years ago on vacation with my family, and it was a very nice stay. That is why I decided to take my family there again on our vacation this year. However, this time, my family and I did not enjoy our stay because it wasn't as nice as we thought it would be. It seems like from the last time we stayed, the cleanliness of the hotel has gone down hill. First off, I booked a non-smoking room for my family. However, when we arrived and got to our room, it was surrounded by smoking rooms. We could smell the smoke in the hallway everytime we stepped out our door. Also, there was sort of a musty smell to the second floor of the hotel, where our room was located. Once I was in my room for a while, something to the room made my sinuses start to act up. Also, when my wife and I took our kids to go swimming in the pool, I went to go check out the work-out area in the fitness room. When I went inside, the room had a moldy smell to it, and sure enough there was mold in the air conditioner, which means it was being blown around the whole room. It was so bad, it made me feel sick. This is why I am never going back to this hotel again. I would not recomend it to anyone.

nothing special

It was okay. The restaurant and lounge were not up to par. The room was okay. It was an average holiday inn in my mind.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/06
I stayed here on a business trip and was disappointed with several features. If was i was giving a smoking room like i asked but was surprised that my room and the room next to mine were smoking and all the others in that hallway non smoking. I found the room to be a little dark and gloomy even with all the lights on. When using my cell phone to call anyone i had to move towards the window, with the curtains open, to get a goood enough signal to call, where outside i had full signal?? Every time i went back to my room after a long day of work my card would not open the door and had to go to the front office and have to reactivate my card. i have never had my card never work before and they acted like it happened all the time. The dining was over-rated, the menu only contained a few items that were nothing more than overpriced dinners nothing small. lucky they was an outback steak house across the parking lot to get a decent meal

Sub-par
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/18/06
Just stayed there last week on a business trip. I have to agree with other reviews, it does smell musty. Shower is old and creepy (no shower light in my first room). My first room was in the far corner above the pool. Although it was a non-smoking room, the halls smelled worse and worse as I approached. Almost a mix of chewing tobacco and smoke. Also, wireless internet was a must since I was on business, and it did not work in this far-corner room. Here is where I disagree from other reports - service was great. I checked in late, after midnight, and had immediate attention. Also, after calling about the wireless failing, they switched me to a room closer to the lobby with great reception. The breakfast is crap, and $10. I wound up driving through MickyD's. I am returning on business next week, and will not stay here again. The best part - Outback Steakhouse across the parking lot.

Will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/06
We requested a handicap room. The hotel's idea of handicap-accessible is not realistic. Toilet was super-low to ground, tub was narrow and small and toilet paper holder far out of reach. In addition, bathroom was FILTHY. Room smelled musty, A/C did not work in room. Both restaurant & Lounge had terrible service.

OVERRATED!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/06
Pictures are deceiving. We viewed this hotel on the web, it looks serene. Pond in front etc. When we arrived, we found a musty, dark, narrow hallway hotel. The lobby is small, the wait to get the attention of a desk agent is looooooooong. I called twice to get a wake up call, after 37 rings I got an answer. I also waited more than 10 minutes as the lone desk agent talked on the phone on a Saturday night. Our room, a two bed non smoking- smelled horrible. A combination of must/smoke permeated the room. We paid 119 plus tax. Nearby inns were less, offered more, included breakfast. I think the Marriott around the corner is a much better option. We went to the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast at 7am. We waited 10 minutes to be seated, another 15 minutes for a server to appear. We asked to order, since we had ample time to peruse the overpriced menu. She said, "I'll be right back." We waited almost 5 minutes before deciding that 30 minutes waiting was a bad omen. We then walked around the fenced perimeter of the hotel grounds, yes fenced----I guess to keep the guests in or the neighborhood out!, and bought some bagels at the grocery store. 5 minutes- no wait- no musty room! I will never, ever, return to this pit. Disgustedly, Exhausted traveler
