Poor Service/Incorrect Billing @ Hotel's Resturant
By None, 6/8/09
I live locally, but went to the hotel restaurant for Mothers Day Brunch. Even though it was a fixed price buffet, the lack of service by the staff was inexcusable. Our table of three had to ask several times for silverware and orange juice (neither of those items are provided at the buffet table), plates piled up on our table as there was no one around to bus them, and we had to ask three times for the bill. I purposely didn’t leave a tip because the service was so bad, so you can imagine my surprised when I received the bill from the credit card company and found and extra $22.00 was charged to my account. This was not the amount I signed for, and it was a party of three people. I guess the hotel office does not hold onto the receipts, because when I called the hotel to straighten out this issue, they made me come to the hotel to prove I didn’t sign for the amount that I was charged for - AND - I could only do this when someone from the accounting office was there. I had to work around THEIR schedule not MINE. Eventually, I was given a credit for $22.00, but I was the one who had to do all the work for it. I didn’t stay at the hotel, so I cant comment on the rooms, however I've decided I will not bother with their restaurant again, nor will I refer out of town guests to this establishment. There are several other hotels and upscale restaurants in the area (including one across the street!) to deal with this foolishness.

Wonderful, will return
By kll, 7/15/08
The stay at the Avon was absolutely wonderful. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The hotel was very clean, beds comfortable, plenty of pillows, in room coffee and water, plenty of towels. Dining room food good and more then you could eat. I will stay there again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Perfect Getaway!
By EM, 2/19/08
AVon Old Farms Hotel is a terrific get away hotel. I was there February 18,2008. The room was neat and clean, plenty of towels and pillows. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The exercise room is small but acceptable. The dry sauna was perfect treat to a cold winter night! Can't wait to go back.

Paper Thin Walls and Traffic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/17/08
The restaurant was very good. Live piano music was nice. However, the main purpose of a hotel is to provide a good night's sleep -- THIS HOTEL FAILED. (Note that I stayed in the "old" section of the hotel -- the newer section is probably much much better). Unfortunately the Paper Thin Walls in my room, combined with facing the road didn't allow me to get a sound night's sleep. The next door neighbor was having a normal converation, and listing to the TV... I could hear them clearly in my room. The traffic sounded like it was passing right by my door (which is was). I would never risk a night's sleep in the old section of this hotel. Other minor annoyances: no closet (you get a coat rack with 5 hangars); no stand for your luggage (I requested one from the front desk -- they brought it promptly); junior-sized ironing board.

Very comfortable and accommodating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/10/06
The rooms were very large and beautifully appointed, lots of towels, extra pillows, a tray of complimentary bottled water. Easy, nearby parking. Good fresh coffee in the lobby, with muffins for breakfast. There are free computers with internet access in the lobby, connected to a front desk printer, so you can check in with an airline and print out boarding passes...I really liked that. The only odd note was that the room service waiter computed and added his own 15% tip to the room service bill, and failed to mention it when he presented the check. Nothing on the room service menu reflected this practice. I let him keep his 15%,but he would have gotten more if he'd left it to me. I don't appreciate anyone assuming that I'm going to stiff them on a tip or that I can't decide what amount is appropriate.
