Worst Service Ever!!!!!
By ,
I felt like they didn't even care about me. I paid so much for absolutely nothing! The biggest waste of money ever. There were mosquito's everywhere, and the resort didn't even bother to give me any bug deterrant. The worst service I've ever experienced!

Fantastic!!
By ,
I agree with Gayto review. It is a beautiful location, with wonderful accomodations and super service! It's a family run resort, each guest is treated like part of the family. Yes, they do have bug repellant!

Absolutely an idylic getaway
By ,
We are repeat guests who treasure our experiences at Tall Timber. Tall Timber is a true escape, valued for more than its wonderful amenities. It offers a peace of mind and soul that carries over when we re-enter the noisy world and leads to an even more appreciated visit the next time. This is an outdoor getaway experience that cannot be compared to to staying at a chrome and plastic hotel in the big city with all the "night life". Yet all the comforts and great food are there and if anything is not right they take care of it right away. This wonderful resort "feels like family" with all the privacy you might want and is a great chance to reinvigorate your life.

Unique place!
By ,
This was a trip unlike any other my husband and I have experienced. The train trip to Tall Timber was the most breathtaking views I have every seen. Once at the resort, we were greeted by the staff and given an overview of the property. The food was wonderful and the service comfortable and friendly . .and very attentive. The indoor pool was in need of some attention, but otherwise, we had no complaints. Each day at Tall Timber is what you make it. Hiking to the Falls was a highlight as well as waiting to greet the train each day for the shocked looks on their faces to see people in such a remote place. I can't say enough about the food and the presentation. It was outstanding! Never have we ever looked forward so much to eating. Each night with turndown, we came back to our room to find a special treat. Homemade cookies, candies, etc. A once in a lifetime, different kind of trip!

We treasure our time at Tall Timber!
By ,
Tall Timber is a unique wilderness luxury resort. You have all the comforts of home (along with incredible food!)and the beauty of nature at the same time. It is family run and they will do anything possible to assist you. As a comment to the reviewers that indicated that the staff was not helpful, that it was unclean, reports of mice etc -- I can only say that in my 5 years I have only found the staff to be extremely accommodating and everything is always clean. The only wildlife I've ever seen are deer & elk! The food is phenomenal - the best I've ever had & I've been to a number of other 5 star resorts and restaurants.

Soaring at Tall Timber - loved it!
By ,
This review is for the Soaring activity that Tall Timber offers. Two friends and I booked this activity in Sept 2005, which can be described as an "Eco zip-line day". We took the D&S train to Tall Timber and were warmly greeted by every staff member. After introductions and an explanation of the day ahead, one starts by getting geared up with a full-body harness and then proceeds to the "Learning Center". Here the details of the course design, safety factors and what one is to expect are explained. The harness has built in redundancy built in for the ultimate in safety. You walk out the 2nd floor Learning Center to the 1st platform and clip onto the stainless steel cable that runs between the 1st two trees. After the guide confirms all is ok with the 2nd guide at the other end of the cable, you are sent on your way quietly gliding amongst the trees to the 2nd platform - what a feeling. I am an adventurist, so I could hardly wait for each new run as each one is distinctively different - from the helicopter crane lifting you 80+ feet into the tree tops, to soaring over the Animas River. You just have to experience it. A gourmet lunch overlooking the Animas River was provided and we ate with our Guides. We finished the last runs and could not believe the day went so quickly. The staff was educational, fun and excited to share the Soaring experience with us. I can't wait to go back.

Our favorite getaway!
By ,
After being guest at Tall Timber for over 15 years, I can truly say that both my wife and I really treasure our time there, and consider our visits one of the highlights of our year. Located along the Animas River in SW Colorado, the property is surronded by National Forrest. Therefore it cannot be reached by any roads so instead you can choose to arrive by a Resort provided helicopter or as a passenger on the historic narrow guage Silverton Railroad out of Durango. Your initial impression is one of awe. Located in a valley, the sothing sound of the river pervades the absolutely quiet of the surroundings. But, this is not in any way a "camping" experience. Tall Timber offers 5 star dining at your private table located 800 ft. up the valley with spectacular views of the scenery below. Your accomadations are luxious. Our villa is two floors, with the King Bed upstairs along with a bath, shower and hot tub. On the first floor is a wet bar, two sofas, chairs, dining table and a beautiful fireplace, always kept at the ready. Even though the isolation of one of the main draws, there is no lack of things to do. They have a 5000 book library, hot tubs, pool, golf, horseback riding, and a working antique soda fountain and juke box. Hike, take the helicopter high into the mountains for a picnic - it just does not get any better. New to Tall Timber is the addition of Soaring, a Top Tree Adventure unlike any in the world. If you want to soar through 150 year old Ponderosa Pine trees for over a mile, and reppel down from the tree tops to the forest floor below, this is the experience for you. Safe, yet exciting - a try family adventure. Tall Timber is so unique that words fail to adequately describe the experience - the fact that we keep coming back perhaps says it best.
