The Cliffs Resort, Pismo Beach

We booked this place for long weekend (Memorial Day 07) and wanted to have some peace of mind from our hectic daily lives. We were to be there on Sat afternnon and stay until Monday. We had booked King Pool OCean view room @ of 270 per night. The moment we got the room , we weren't very happy about it.It was on the top floor and had a clear view of the ocean and the pool , which we started to regret immediately. Due to lot of kids pool area was very noisy. To add to the noise, they have some artifical water fall around the pool which is EXTREMELY noisy. No peace at all. We were clearly disappointed but thought that after 10 pm when pool closes it'll be a bit better. Due to the noise we decided to keep the balcony door closed (which we really didn't want as we had very high expectations with water front etc.) but the moment we closed the door , there was this loud rumbling sound. It felt like lot of power generators were running next to us. We kept patience until 10 PM and then finally decided to call front desk about the rumbling noise. They sent someone to check the noise and this guy agreed that the noise was too much and specially if we were paying 270 a night, it was not acceptable. He went and called the manager. Manager was very understanding but as hotel was completely booked he couldn't do anything about it. We asked for early checkout next day and wanted the money back. He agreed to not to charge the early checkout fee of 50$ and lower the price to 109$ for one night. But at the end since we were from San Francisco Bay Area we decided to go back home the same night (after 4 hours) rather than staying in the noisy place. We left the place around 10:15 on Sat night and reached home at 1:30 am. Hotel didn't charge us anything and aplogized. I would never-ever go back there again. If you want a peaceful , relaxed and laid back vacation, then this is NOT the place. We were highly disappointed as our vacation was spoiled. Only +ve thing was that staff was very understanding and friendly.

I have stayed at the Cliffs many times in the last 7 or 8 years but with their new pet friendly policy I won't return. The front desk claimed that the pets were isolated but we saw them all over the place including in the suites. The first room they gave me had nasty stains on the carpets which the front desk assured me weren't pet stains, but I doubt they were being honest. For the money they charge, simply not worth it.

We have been staying at the Cliffs since it opened and have enjoyed many, many fond memories there. We've stayed in virtually every type of room, including the suites located out on the point. Over the years, we've stayed maybe two dozen times or more. We spent a week there in August with our youngest daughter and last night stayed one night on the way home from the Bay area. As we walk around the hotel and grounds these days, it is sad to see that the place is starting to slide in terms of upkeep. Where there used to be people constantly working on the hotel either cleaning it or keeping it in good repair, such is unfortunately no longer the case. Hallways are dirty and carpets worn. The carpets in the rooms are stained and faucets leak. Furniture in the rooms is getting shabby and worn out. The marble in the bathrooms has rust stains. The once beautiful lawns between the hotel and the cliffs are littered with empty bottles, corks, glasses and other debris that has not been cleared from some event and still litter the lawn a day later. Sidewalks are cracked and broken, underground pipes are exposed and gopher holes abound. When we stayed at the hotel a month ago, our daughter noticed a snail on the outer door of the stairwell near the suites. Upon our return last night, the snail was still there and though we had to laugh, this was yet another small sign that the place is not being very well maintained. The pool at the Cliffs used to be a great pool, but now you can see cracks and chips in the plaster that have never been repaired. The jacuzzi jets do not work properly and just blow bubbles upward. Overall, the place is sliding downward and I am not sure if we will be going back. For the price they charge, the hotel should be in tip top shape as it once was. There are many choices in the Shell Beach area and perhaps it is time we started exploring those.

We have stayed a The Cliffs Resort twice and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay on each occasion. The rooms are large and well appointed, and the service was excellent. The setting, particularly for the Ocean Front rooms is spectacular. Each of our stays has been pleasant and relaxing, and we will definitely return.

Have Been to several Banquet events at this resort and the service is excellent, friendly, and efficient. Great Views and facilities. Restroom locations aren't as event friendly as one would expect.

the hotel does not have much facility as "resort". there is power outage from 6pm to 2am during our stay but there is nothing other than one more blanket hotel offers as good gesture.

Great place for spend weekend, Great view, great service, but room is little noisy if stay in partial ocean view in higher floor. So, stay in lower floor away from freeway noise if you plan to stay in partial ocean view, but still it is great view for money: view reminded me of a place in Kona, Hawaii. Great place have beer, but I would rather drive to Pismo beach for meals such as "Cracked Crabs". I would stay there again, since this is cleanest place to stay in Pismo beach.

Price gougers...they charged us $329.00 for one night because there were no other rooms available as it was WOW week at Cal Poly. NO amenitites like robes for the pool etc. The room is NOT a $329 room...maybe $150 at tops. They will also charge you $50 extra if you leave Early....(never heard of such a thing). I was totally outraged at the cost, but had to take it because there were no other rooms available in the area.
