The Sandman Inn, Santa Barbara

I hated this place, I had a bad experience at this Inn. When I first arrived the door was wide open at 1 am, now what kind of place does this, I asked the front service why the door was wide open and he told me because the maid left it open, I do not buy that...poor excuse....it is a drug infested Inn.. This place should be demolished by the State....I recommend no one pays for this service, if you want to save money with this place your kidding yourself, stay at a decent place like Motel 6, Holliday Inn, etc, but not the sandman Inn...

It is not worth paying paying $153 for one night for two. The staff is not courteous at all. When we had requested to give us another room since the allocated room was very noisey (some construction work was going on), the receptionist said that he canot do so and asked us to cancel our booking with NO REFUNDS if we did not want to stay in that particular room!! how cruel it was.. the rooms were very old, the walls chipping off. The A/C was too small for the room. At night it stopped working :( .. The comlimentary breakfast is horrible. they mention Danish patsries in the menu, which were not seen at all, juices were like flavored water. I am never going back to this hotel..

Yes, it was Memorial Weekend and everywhere is pricey, but. The Sandman had some good reviews which is why we stayed there. The positives: king bed had no bed bugs, TV and the air conditioning worked, The negatives: toilet handle needed to be held for 10 seconds to get a good flush, the bathroom Really Needed to be painted, the price on the door said 130/night but we're charged 145 + tax with a 1200 check out. They tell you 11am check out in the lobby. This needs to be updated, come on guys. For the price you would think that these things would be taken care of. No check in early, We've stayed at many hotels, motels, inns, etc. and everybody says..call us at noon and we'll see. They simply said, no. And I asked 2 different people. It's a 300 check in. Rough on people who travel. Do you want our business, or not? So, we'll pass on Sandman. We've stayed at El Prado closer to downtown and for a few dollars more, a much better deal. Ant to top all this off, the continental breakfast was pretty poor. Ok coffee, donuts, bagel, hard boiled egg, and cereal. Most places that are cheaper offer ready to make waffles, good muffins, scrambled eggs (yes, even for continental breakfast). Oh well, I've vented.

The good thing was that there was a free movie rental at the lobby! Other than that,,,,,,I can't say that I would go back. The rooms in the pictures are missleading. The grounds are under construction (being modernized)and the pictures must have been from a recently modified portion of the hotel. My wife and I stayed there with our son. The room was very drafty and all of the windows "circa 1950" would not close completely. The wood thresholds had long been wroughted out and the door was missing the lower sweep which allowed dust, cold air, bugs, etc; into the room. To be honest, I don't think we would stay there again. Besides, The good shops ( on State Street) are roughly a 10-15 minute drive away. I would rather pay a higher rate and stay closer to the beach and shops. I guess you do get what you pay for.....! I gave the value a low rating due to the quality! Yes! they are cheap! I see why........

This inn represents the ultimate in inconsistency. While the pool and breakfast were superb, the room was so awful I wouldn't go back. They have two heated pools, one in a lovely setting. The breakfast had extensive variety, a very attentive attendant, and a nice dining room. But...the room....There was one working light bulb in the room. The bed lamp had exposed wires. The clock was unplugged (behind the headboard). I asked the office for more light and they provided a floor lamp (otherwise missing from the room) and a light bulb. Because of the room layout, there was no light in the coat closet. The dresser drawer was warped in the open position. The shower drain was missing a strainer (just a hole in the floor). I wondered how the housekeeping department could have thought the room was remotely fit for use. When I brought the issues to the attention of the manager, she did discount the room 35%. None the less, the inattentiveness of the housekeeping staff and its management would cause me to look elsewhere next time I'm in Santa Barbara

the hotel was amazing!!! if you are looking for an afordable price and a great hotel...this is the right place.. it has everything you would need...cable..internet access...coffee maker...microwave..EVERYTHING!! i spent 4 days there with my boyfriend, and i had a great time...the hotel was very clean...i would go there again... all the stores,theaters, and fast food places are within a walking distance...

The rooms were extremely noisy, either someone walking above or the noisy A/C units. Our shower stopped working one night and the A/C unit above our unit woke us up in the middle of the night. Instead of refunding us for that night, they said it was our fault for not asking to move in the middle of the night. Also, one morning we came out of our room and saw a dead rat in the parking lot and it remained there all day for the birds to feed on! No customer service and run down.

The service was good and the staff responsive. I would definitely stay here again. There are restaurants, gas stations and drug stores handy within a block.

What a truly splendid place!! The staff and experience that myself and my wife and 13yr old son had the priviledge to enjoy was the epitome of all that is good about the USA. The reccomendation for an evening meal at "The Palace" was perfect and when a stretch limo pulled up as the taxi, we were made up!! The pool and spa were a very welcome treat after a gard days driving up the west coast. Fantastic, I will reccomend this place to everyone I hear of coming to this part of the world. Superb value for money and fantastic staff.

not right downtown or by the beach! his is not a very good location at all!
