DONT STAY HERE! GROSS Bed Bugs & Rude Staff
By ,
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING YOUR STAY AT THIS HOTEL. When booking our reservation, we were suckered into the 150 dollar credit they were offering for a 2 night or more stay. Customer service is unreal. Not in a good way. When we got checked in the front desk girl was really short with me & was rude. The next morning when we ordered room service for breakfast, the people who answered the phone seemed overworked or something & they were super rude & short with me as well. IT was as if they wanted me to hurry with my order & hang up. I didn't take more than about 3 minutes for my order. It left me confused & already I wasn't enjoying the rest & relaxation that I thought my fiancé & I would get a a top rated hotel like the Fairmont in San Jose. I then wrote it off & thought well maybe it was a fluke & they were having a bad day. We all do at work every once in a while. Little did I know the worst was yet to come. Do not do the Sunday brunch. There isn't much of a selection & was about $100 per person. WAY OVERPRICED!!! Especially for what they were serving. I wasn't impressed at all. There were several men working there & most were nice except one. This guy was something else. I asked him different questions & he wouldn't answer me. They finally in a rude tone of voice he said "GO ASK YOUR WAITER HE IS OVER THERE!!" I was like wow. Was just shocked at the way both I & other guests were being treated. He was behind the buffet table & I was asking about the buffet. I asked myself why should I ask my waiter if this guy is right here & he is part of the restaurant staff. HE continued to be rude to many people. Until... A couple whom appeared well off came in & he catered to them with a smile. I shook my head in disbelief as I couldn't believe what I was seeing with my own eyes. Everyone there was a paying customer. We should have just went outside of the hotel to eat. The worst part of my stay (I bet you thought I was already there) NOPE! Purely disgusting..BED BUGS & MORE RUDE STAFF...My first night I had 2 small bites on my right arm when I woke in the morning & thought to myself that maybe it was while I was outside having oysters at the Grill on the alley. But I was wrong... The next morning I woke up & had more bites on my right arm, all over my left arm & even more bites all up & down my left leg & 2 on my right. I was grossed out the morning we checked out. When checking out, I let the front desk staff know about all the bed bug bites I experienced during my stay & physically showed her all the bites on both of my arms. I told her I would happily show her my legs if she wanted. Even she had a disgusted look on her face. I told her I didn't expect any bed bugs because when we arrived the carpets were freshly steam cleaned & the carpet was still damp. Apparently the carpet cleaning wasn't enough because I still got bit. I’m assuming that is why they steam cleaned the carpets before we got there. Anyhow, I explained to her how unhappy I was with my stay at the hotel & all she said was that she was sorry that I felt that way. WHAT THE?! I asked her to please let her manager know especially about the bed bugs bites & that if they could compensate the bill somehow. She appeared to go back to the front desk & talk with someone. Then when she got back she said that they would investigate the bed bugs & give me a call back. AGAIN WTH! I again asked for some sort of compensation & told her that if I wanted to get bit this much I would have went camping but this is the FAIRMONT! HELLO! But to my disappointment she said there was nothing she could do & that she was sorry. I was at a loss for words. It was just unbelievably disappointing & disgusting! For the final gotcha was that she forgot to credit us our $150 credit that was promised to us when we booked the hotel until we had to remind her to look. Don't waist a penny here or your valuable time here.

Upscale Yet Comfortable
By ,
I had a business trip and a friend recommended the Fairmont. With the exception of some of the front desk personnel, my experience was a wow. Mario the bartender was great, the restaurants were pretty good, but best was that it's centrally located. The San Jose Airport is almost downtown so it was very convenient to The Fairmont. It fronts a great park, where there was live music playing the afternoon of my arrival. The Tech Museum is right across the park, and the Convention Center about one block away. Someone told me the Chidren's Discovery Museum is also close by, as are a number of other parks, like Happy Hallow. I was tempted to see a concert at the HP Pavilion but didn't want to go alone. There are movie theaters less than one block away, and many chain restaurants (Morton's, P.F. Chang's) very close by, as well as a number of great ethnic restaurants, bistros, tons of clubs, and bars. San Jose's Art Museum is next door. A staff member told me in the winter there is an ice rink next door in the palm plaza, so you skate around the palm trees! I even took a guided tour of the St. Joseph Cathedral which was fascinating (I love history, and didn't know San Jose is the oldest city in California, and St. Joseph's the oldest parish) I wish I had had more time, because I met a number of great guys at the Fairmont's lounge, especially one in particular! I will return, not for business but for that one great guy; go to The Fairmont and fall in love!

Average. Not a 5 Star
By ,
Good downtown location. Pleasant and clean lobby. Mario at the bar was terrific. He kept us coming back each night. Service at the front desk was ok. They didn't have our reservations and check in information/credit card authorization though we had sent it to them days in advance. Just a bit disorganized, but otherwise friendly.

Loved it!!
By ,
We were there last week. It was a great place! I loved just sitting in the lobby bar. The bartender Mario was great!!! He did a great job keeping up with all the people at the bar. I would say he was one of the best bartenders. Friday night also had a great bartender. Frank. He also did a great job! very nice people after a very long day of traveling. My wife and I loved the rooms, and the pool. We want to come back next year. Someone said to come over new years!! it's always a great time. anyway, both my wife and I would come back in a heartbeat! Just one little complaint.. the folks at the front desk we not very friendly.. they need to smile more and act like they enjoy working with the public.

I won't recommend this hotel !!!
By ,
This hotel do have parking spots but offer to valet parking service only, it's cost you lots of money.. unfair to the hotel guests... they have to park their cars somewhere which cost $12-15 each time, no unlimited in & out service... will cost the guests lots of money in parking if they in and out few times a day.. DO NOT CONSIDER !!!

Beds bad, overpriced, too loud, EXPENSIVE!
By ,
Went here for a conference. Wanted to pay with debit and was notified that there would be an additional charge of $100 per night hold by paying with debit. It's cash! Anyway, room was spacious and clean. Bed was horribly uncomfortable. Walls are paper thin. Hot water sucks in showers. Room service delivery fee is $4.25 plus 22% automatic gratuity. Wi-fi is $13.95 per 24 hours. Business center charges $1.00 to print one page. That's AFTER you log in to their system and drop a $75 hold on a major card; then, minimum charge for using their computer to print is $8.50. You can self-park or use valet. I chose self-park in parking garage a hike away. I didn't go in and out. Drove up and parked overnight. Charge was $28. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. I would stay somewhere else where at least parking and wi-fi are free. It was not a pleasant business trip at the Fairmont San Jose.

Wonderful!
By ,
LOVED it!! I was treated with AMAZING, over-the-top service. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I felt like a rock star with how great they treated me. ONLY drawback to this place - no outside hot tub!! If this place had a hot tub, it would be 5 stars...... I will stay here again no matter what.

Elegant hotel but average service
By ,
Really nice hotel but the frills did not make up for the generally less than courteous front desk personnel. They were condescending and "talked down" to me when I brought a balky TV remote issue to them. They "lectured" me on how to use a remote rather than just reply that they would check it out. The older model TV seemed more appropriate in a roadside motel and not this nice place. In addition, the shower drained slowly leaving 2 inches of standing water by shower's end. This reported problem was NOT resolved and remained for the duration of my 4 night stay. The TV issue was repaired by a repairman who also left a condescending message on voice mail. What ever happened to Thank You for visiting our hotel and sorry for the inconvenience! But then, this is California and attitudes there run along these lines just about everywhere you go.
