Upscale Yet Comfortable
I had a business trip and a friend recommended the Fairmont. With the exception of some of the front desk personnel, my experience was a wow. Mario the bartender was great, the restaurants were pretty good, but best was that it's centrally located. The San Jose Airport is almost downtown so it was very convenient to The Fairmont. It fronts a great park, where there was live music playing the afternoon of my arrival. The Tech Museum is right across the park, and the Convention Center about one block away. Someone told me the Chidren's Discovery Museum is also close by, as are a number of other parks, like Happy Hallow. I was tempted to see a concert at the HP Pavilion but didn't want to go alone. There are movie theaters less than one block away, and many chain restaurants (Morton's, P.F. Chang's) very close by, as well as a number of great ethnic restaurants, bistros, tons of clubs, and bars. San Jose's Art Museum is next door. A staff member told me in the winter there is an ice rink next door in the palm plaza, so you skate around the palm trees! I even took a guided tour of the St. Joseph Cathedral which was fascinating (I love history, and didn't know San Jose is the oldest city in California, and St. Joseph's the oldest parish) I wish I had had more time, because I met a number of great guys at the Fairmont's lounge, especially one in particular! I will return, not for business but for that one great guy; go to The Fairmont and fall in love!
