Spyglass Inn, Pismo Beach

While the staff was very friendly and helpful the rooms do not look as good as they do in the photos on their website. My first room was in a section of the hotel that had not yet been remodeled and it reminded me of a Motel 6 but for $150 per night! I could not get out of my reservation for that night so I opted to pay more to switch rooms and was graciously given one of their "best" ocean view rooms. The view from this room was beautiful but the quality of the room itself was not (towels like sandpaper, no bathtubs, dirty carpets, patches in the shower, poor water pressure). I feel for the price there are MUCH better rooms in the area (The Cliffs, The Cottage Inn, Avila La Fonda)

we were here for 4 days. Great nautical theme. Free crib for the baby. good view and close to Pismo Beach. Heated pool so night and morning swimming is fun. The room shower was a little lame. I pee a more powerful stream but that just may be a water conservation thing, damn tree huggers and their crappy products.

My wife and I visited the Spyglass Inn in late February of '09. We were very pleased with the hotel and in particular the location. I had booked the hotel based on the website and on previously posted reviews so was hoping that it lived up to expectations as the trip was a surprise long weekend for my wife.. Fortunately it did. We found the restaurant and office staff quite pleasant and helpful and the room cosy, clean and well outfitted. The view of the ocean from the garden area outside our ground floor room was terrific. The beach (bit cool for swimming but a nice walk) was only a couple of hundred yards away via the path and staircase. The room and restaurant was maybe a little on the pricey side but overall I would say was still pretty good value. The only complaint we could really make was that the occupants of upstairs rooms are very audible (sounded like there were twenty of them, they were playing football and they all weighed 300 pounds) so maybe some additional underlay for the carpeting couldn't hurt..? This was only a problem for a relatively short while and was ultimately cancelled out by the other nice sounds you have access to - the birds, the ocean and the quiet. Ultimately, we had a great time and my wife said she would love to go back - and that doesn't happen too often!

It was very nice and quiet the view was great. I was in an oceanview on the second floor. One thing we wished worked was the light on the balcony so we could play cards out there. And the toliet paper dispenser was about to fall off the wall. The floor wasnt that clean either. You can also hear all the sounds from your neighbors. But the bed was comfy better than some others in pismo and the view was also good liked the big windows. The resturant was also good especially sitting outside.

My wife and I had were traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco and we decided to cut the trip in pieces and stay at a couple nice looking, but not too expensive, places along the way. We liked the look of the Spyglass on their web site but were more than surprised when we got there... it was much more than we had expected. Our room faced the ocean and had a patio walkout. We spent the entire evening watching the sun go down over the Pacific. Afterwards we went inside and lit the fireplace and stayed in bed to watch the waning colors over the water. We walked out to the edge of the cliff after dark (there is a fence there) and watched the stars and listened to the surf. The bed was the most comfortable of any we slept in on our trip. We went to the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and found the food good and reasonably priced. The breakfast waiter got up on the wrong side of the bed, but he gave us something to laugh about over our eggs. Before we stopped at the Spyglass and after we continued up the coast highway we stayed at fancier, more expensive places, but found the Spyglass to be the place we both said we enjoyed the most and would love to come back to.

My daughter and I stayed there one night....we picked it out on line and on the phone, and because it takes pets...decided to stay there...room very nice, confortable, enjoyed the coffee, bottled water provided..robes...lots of extra pillows, towels abundant...split bathroom, patio...all great. Desk clerk on phone was very nice, polite and helpfull.

This was our second time back to Spyglass, and we only stayed one night, which was all we had planned. Our room was excellent as was the view. Diner at the resturant was also excellent. When a late afternoon chill came up the wait staff lit the outdoor heaters right away and we enjoyed a beutiful sunset. I got a beautiful photograph with four pelicans crossing the low setting sun and the sculpture of the dolphins off to the side. There is an access to the beach, but sadly it is not for the physically challenged, nor could it reasonably be made so.

MY experience was Horrible. I booked for the 3 day special rate.BIG MISTAKE !! The place is older WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING !! We went in August, the room was unbearable during the night and they gave us a BOX FAN for cooling. The front desk was less than accomodating and when I told them we couldn't stay in a room that was that hot, I was charged almost 50% more for the night because I wasn't staying the 3 days. I emailed their corporate office. Haven't heard a word ! I'm telling everyone I know DO NOT STAY THERE !! Had to stay at 2 different motels to complete our vacation because most places were booked up. It could have been a disastrous vacation.

The rooms were tastfully done and the view breathtaking from the upstairs balcony. Only stayed one night but have since sent my work staff there and have plans to go back myself.
