A good view for a reasonable price
We just returned (July 11th) from our stay at the San Simeon Lodge. Our reservation was for a room with two beds and, because we were paying under $100.00-a-night for this in the middle of the summer season (we stayed Sunday night), our expectations were fairly low. The motel is located across the highway from the sea cliffs, but we had a panoramic view of the sea (but not the breakers) and sky from our ground level room (Room 109). Note: The rooms around the pool courtyard do not have as good a view.
Our room was clean with pretty basic amenities: a table with two chairs, dresser, night stand. Our beds were very comfortable.
There is no sink outside the bathroom, so one could not brush teeth etc. when the other was in the shower, but there were full-length mirrors on both the sliding doors of the closet and an outlet right next to it, so one could blowdry or dry shave while the other was in the bathroom.
There is no tub in the bath, just a small, unpleasantly tight-fitting shower stall. The water pressure was a problem with the low-flow shower head. It was difficult to rinse shampoo out of our hair.
There was a 4-cup coffee maker, but no refrigerator to keep milk (or wine!) chilled. (They do provide artery-clogging powdered dairy creamer and sugar along with the coffee packets.)
There was no Internet connection in our room.
Rooms at the Best Western directly across the street were much fancier, but cost 2-1/2 to 3 times as much. Down the street, there is a Motel 6 with absolutely no view of the sea at all. So, overall, we felt San Simeon Lodge was a pretty good value for a room with a very nice view in a very accessible, convenient location.
