Marina Village Inn, Alameda

I read other people's reviews and chose this hotel to stay in July.The experience in the hotel was terrible, customer service was horrible. And there's no wifi signal in our room, not even in the lobby. We booked a king size room online and were given a queen size room upon arrival. The woman was cold and impatient when questioned about this, and gave us an I-DON'T-CARE look on her face. She's even reluctant to show up during conversation. The front desk phone rang several times but she wouldn't come out to pick them up, because we were in the front desk waiting for her answer. She looked at my order confirmation letter and said that the price we paid online were low, talking like she's already done us a great favor for giving us a night to stay here. But we paid for a king-size room, and had to stay in a queen-size with a feeling of humiliated. We didn't get what was promised, and obviously they don't care. The pillow was hard as stone, just like their customer service. The woman should be fired.

A/C was outdated. Worked only so well. It worked fine at first then stopped. When I informed management-they would do nothing but offer an electric fan. I booked this room at their website and got a great deal for hotels around the Oakland airport. I travel alot, and couldn't believe the rate was less than expedia and other web engines. The rate was better than area budget hotels-so, I jumped on it. The hotel was maintained and in good condition for a good budget motel. However, the motel sits between two yacht clubs and can demand higher rates. I was told there was a regatta event on saturday and all rooms had been booked and I couldn't change rooms. It was early in the evening and was told because of the rate I paid, they would not change my room. I told them that it was not right and someone might not show up but, I was left without any remedy. For the budget rate it really is not a bad place-there is a pool and good view of the marina. The area was good in a residential setting. The town of alameda was just about a mile away and had everything a small tourist town has to offer (food, shopping, postal, banks, etc.). Since, it was late September and cooler, I made due with the fan and AC combo. But, still I felt cheated and that the staff here is less than adequate. The mini continental breakfast was a good snack for the rate. Again, it would have been a nice bargain if the AC units were upgraded and they worked like other hotels. I would stay again at the budget rate. But, if the rate was higher I would shop around.

It was nice and clean and more than I expected. I had my In Laws stay that and had never seen a room before. I was a bit nervous but it was all worth it.

First of all the people....well the ONE employee that answers the phone is unsure where the hotel is located.... Second, the A/C didn't work on a very hot day and they expected me to wait until the Maint man got his tools out from under his Camaro to fix the A/C. We left and went to the Marriot downtown Oakland for less money. The Marina Inn has yet to refund my deposit for the unfortunate 1 hour stay and unplanned $20 dollar taxi rides. The "on site manager" is never there and won't return calls. Bad-Bad

The main part of the room was big enough for a person in a wheelchair or scooter, however, there were no grab bars in the bathroom, and the bathroom was VERY small, making it difficult to maneuver around. The room had THREE closets in it, which easily could have been knocked out and expanded into a bigger bathroom.

Very beautiful location right on the bay! Many business offices located within walking distance, food and other services available within walking distance as well. Would recommend anytime!

On the whole the place is a good value for the money. Nothing fancy at all. But, some of the people working there need a course in some sort of hotel managment and how to handle customers.

I will admit that I do not require much from a hotel room, just that it be CLEAN, have a private bath and a good location. This hotel met and exceeded all my expectations. For the price, you couldn't beat it. The staff was VERY helpful and friendly, even going so far as to call around to local restaurants to see who was open and serving while showing the Super Bowl. It takes approx. 20 minutes to drive to Fishermans' Wharf, 30 minutes to San Jose and 20 minutes in morning rush hour to Oakland Airport. It is in a small marina across the waters from San Fran, so the quiet is great. Plus, you wake up every morning to sail boats sitting in their berths. I can't imagine that you could do better for the price.

We were there for about a week and most of the amenities are okay and the free breakfast were a plus for our trip. Hotel staff were generally friendly, location was nice but not really close to any good resterants except a next door seafood place that was expensive but good. One downside was the movie rental service which required a lobby deposit with no ability to charge the cost to the room. Overall, good experience for the price and I would readily return for another stay.
