We were surprised and thrilled - best value for SF
By Ted, 9/16/09
Our daughter is a student at AAU & we had to help find her an apartment. We checked many hotels & rates before choosing the Mayflower, mostly for price, the highest recommend rate & central location. We arrived early morning & they gave us a room anyway, stayed 2 days & extended over the weekend, then another day while waiting for the rent application. It was absolutely wonderful; family owned, great (and helpful) staff, ample parking (but VERY narrow access), a small free breakfast every day got us on our way, spacious and comfortable rooms and beds, a small kitchen area and a clean bathroom!, etc. made this the best value for the price. They even change towels & sheets every day. Our only minor problem was a squeaky ceiling fan (even forgot to tell them at checkout). There is a small store next door (convenient for groceries), and many pubs, pizza and other restaurants, sandwich shops, coffee houses, etc nearby, the bus stops around the corner, cable car a few blocks over, very close to everything. This was a diamond-in-the-rough, a blessing to come back to after walking all over SF looking for apartments every day!! We can't understand how they would ever get a bad review, but we definitely recommend and look forward to staying there again. p.s. I happened to call their number direct to ask about the parking and got THEIR rate which was less! (i.e. don't book them online and save your money)

Best deal in San Francisco
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/16/08
Hotel Mayflower is a San Francisco treasure. It is comfortable, affordable, clean, very conveniently located, and with outstanding customer service. I extended my stay from a couple of nights to a couple of months for business purposes, and loved the spacious room (brand-new mattresses), fully equipped kitchenette, spotless bathroom and professional and friendly staff. This historic hotel is perfect for both business (free internet access and separate study on first floor mezzanine) and pleasure, with Union Square shopping, theaters, restaurants and public transport within short walking distance. The complimentary breakfast is served in a beautiful airy dining room, where I felt equally welcome to read the newspaper alone or chat with the other guests. I would especially recommend the Mayflower to travellers from abroad (like myself) who wish to have convenient access to everything this city has to offer and to stay in a hotel that reflects the history of the city while providing the comforts of today. This is a family owned hotel, evident from the careful maintenance of the building (new wiring, plumbing, windows and fresh paint when I was there). It is also evident from the consideration they show their guests. They accommodated any request and did everything they could to make my stay there successful and pleasurable.

Great hotel!
By Leslie, 9/2/08
Staff was very polite and the hotel and room were very clean. The room had a little kitchen, a big closet and a desk. It was nice. They offer parking and continental breakfast. They have free wireless and three computers for guests to use. The location was also good. If I ever go back to San Francisco, I would definately stay there again.

Mayflower, a great place in the heart of the city
By Carly & JimS, 6/18/08
The Mayflower is a wonderful old fashion place to stay! If you want a tast of Real San Francisco, its the place to stay.. The hotel is right in the middle of the city, easy access to the trolly, the warf, the bridge. Everything. The staff was friendly and helpfull. The rooms are Great! Staying with a child having a kitchenet was helpfull! and all the closet space!! there were 3 walk in closets in our room! You could really stay there for a long trip. I would recomend it to young and old alike!

London Visitor Review
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/17/08
What we really liked was the informal friendlieness and the clean and comfortable rooms - although the pound is strong against the dollar presently it is good dollar value! Centrally located in a good clean safe area. Within a few blocks in any direction there is a good choice of anything anyone would desire eg., restaurants, shops and transport. Added bonus as far as we were concerned was the breakfast.

Charm, class and location. ..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/16/06
This 75 year old delight was recommended to us by California friends. It is in a class by itself. Now managed by the grand-daughter of the original owner, the service is first class. The rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated, and are being renovated a floor at a time. (Try for the top floors!) The hotel provides parking places for the guests under the hotal on a first-come, first-serve basis. In a loge, above the lobby, there are 3-4 PCs with high speed connections for the use of the guests. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Union Square, Chinatown, and Nob Hill. Expect to pay about $80-150 for a very comfortable king. An interesting sidelight: a number of traveling nurses working at Bay area hospitals stay at the Mayflower.

like staying with a family you never knew you had!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/05
What a great find! Could not extend my stay at another Nob Hill hotel and was serendipitously directed by a local to the lovely Mayflower on Bush St., where I ended up spending the most comfortable and most reasonably priced nites of my trip, with a fantastic rate for a bright, comfortable, airy room with walk-in closet, kitchenette, sunlight and peace. The Nob Hill location is convenient to many bus lines and a 10min walk/ quick trolley ride from the Powell St. BART stop. Local nightlife nearby as well as tourist attractions. The staff, headed by the granddaughter of the family that built the Mayflower in the 1920's, could not be kinder or more helpful. They all go out of their way to make guests feel truly at home, providing such unusual amenities as: unique color schemes and decor for each room; kitchenettes with real china; hassle-free computer & internet access; a quiet lounge for reading and relaxing (or business) with real magazines (even the New Yorker!)and books; beautiful murals in the halls and common areas by a local artist; even homemade muffins and Nutella at the complementary breakfast in the sunny dining room. Everything at the Mayflower is elegant and lovely with a touch of old Nob Hill but also very down-to-earth: a cozy museum where everything feels as great as it looks and you're allowed to spend the night.
