La Quinta Inn John Wayne Orange County Airport, Costa Mesa

To start with the positive, the room was clean and comfortable. For the price range, I find that La Quinta definately has upgraded the matresses and makes the room worth being in. Also, the morning breakfast has the extras such as the waffle maker. This site did have a pool which seemed clean and waiting for some users. Unfortunately, the site is located right next to the freeway (I-405) which makes for some loud traffic noises (the rooms are sound proof pretty good). The building looks like an older discount chain hotel that's been updated so it is not appealing. I stayed here for the closeness to the airport and the free shuttle. When my plane landed at 9:05PM I was informed I missed the last shuttle. It is not located next to the airport and the taxi ride was nearly $20. But, to end on a positive, you can't do much better for the price range.

My first room was supposed to be non-smoking but smelt like an ashtray. I was transferred to a second room which was a disability accommodation room on the first floor on the freeway side of the building. The second room had several problems: the shower did not work properly (it only dribbled), the toilet didn't flush properly (it got clogged easily), the television did not work at all (no channels), there was a huge gap between the front door and bottom floor, and the internet only worked intermittently. The noise from the 405 freeway was deafening, and I could not sleep. I felt afraid for my personal and property safety. I heard domestic violence arguing outside of the room from the parking lot. One male hotel guest was hanging out in the door way of his room and yelled obscenities at me when I passed by. It was also obvious that the hotel was being used for prostitution. There was even a prostitute soliciting outside the hotel. There was also some rowdiness in front of the Hooters that almost adjoins the hotel. However, the one elderly security man I saw walking around turned a blind eye. This is a horrible hotel. I will never stay there again.

I left a pair of shoes in the closet. I called to say I'd pick them up. They said the shoes were not there. I am positive I left them in the closet. The maid must have stolen them.

Room assigned wasn't cleaned, we were locked out the second night, and room hadn't been refreshed after all day...and room wasn't cleaned 3rd day. Manager gave us a free night's certificate after I asked. Not La Quinta's usual level of service.

I read several negative reviews about this motel so was somewhat apprehensive when I booked however I was very satisfied with everything on my recent 2 day stay. Several people mentioned it was "noisy" so I assume they were talking about it being next to the 405 Freeway. However once you are in the room, there was no problem. I stay here primarily because I have 2 dogs and most places that allow pets have a 1 pet maximum so it was ideal for those with have pets. It is convenient to both Costa Mesa & Irvine with easy access to the 405 and 55 Freeways. I would definitely recommend it to anyone especially if you have pets! The staff was courteous and I was able to checkin early. The room was clean and A/C was O.K. & you do have internet access in the room.

Great place to stay. Very comfortable and clean room. Check in was quick and the elevators definitely made it easy hauling all of our stuff up to the third floor room. Lots of green grass for our dog to use. Yes, we do always clean up after our dog goes. TV worked fine. Made sandwiches in the room, but there is a Hooters right next door if you want to eat out. Beds were comfortable. Some other reviews mentioned that the traffic noise was a problem, but we hardly noticed it. We all had a great night's sleep. Free breakfast didn't have the usual waffles, but was very satisfying nevertheless. After checkout we went to Disneyland which was a short ten mile drive north on Harbor Blvd, left on Ball, and then to the Mickey and Friends parking lot. Disneyland was a blast. Used Ridemax to plan our ride schedule and that really minimized our wait times in line. Ridemax is really worth the onetime fee of $15. Our number one choice in motels is definitely La Quinta.

Sandwiched between Hooters and the 405, the La Quinta is not somewhere you plan to stay, it's where you end up after driving all day and need somewhere to spend the night.

This fit the mold for the La Quinta chain; clean rooms, good value. No complaints in those areas. I would only stay at this location again though if I had a room AWAY from the freeway. My room was literally 50 yards from the 405 freeway and was so loud I felt I'd end up with a semi coming through the front door. Also, hotel does not have interior hallways, and I had a first floor room facing the parking lot. I requested a room change, the front desk tried to accomdate me but the only option they had left was a smoking room. I decided to keep my existing room, choosing loud noise over 2nd hand smoke. Another important note if planning to use shuttle service to airport: their shuttle does not start until 6am, not good if you have a 6:45 flight! If you choose this hotel, I recommend it only on two conditions: 1) room opposite side of complex from freeway, 2) 2nd floor room.

The Room I Stayed In Smelled Like A Smokers Room This Was Very Bad! And When I Called The Front Desk Asking For A Few More Pillows Thay Told Me Thay Did Not Have Any! When I Got To My Room They Must Have Been Cleaning The Floors Because The Floor Was Damp And The Nightstand, Table, And 2 Chairs Where On The Beds. On The Other Side Bathroom Was Clean And Nice And The Room Its Self Was Clean If Only It Did Not Smell Like Smoke! Oh And I Did Ask For A Non Smoking Room! I Would Stay Agin If I Needed To!

It was overall a good place. I had one major complaint and that was that the cleaning products they use or air freshener or something stunk extremely bad. They need to change it or use much less. I did have a problem checking in, they could not find my yahoo travel reservations. It was a holiday weekend and the charge didn't show on my bank acct so I had to pay cash only to come home and find I had been charged. This is not the hotels fault I believe it is yahoo travels. So as far as the room I would go again.
