Can Do A Lot Better
By ,
Homeless men camp outside ocean view rooms from 6am to 10pm everyday and if you open your drapes to enjoy the view they just keep staring in. Internet is 54g and barely works. Can't Skype with it. No internet computer in lobby. Have to ask the front desk to perform air web check-in for you. Don't give you best available room if you use a discount even though they advertise they do. Breakfast helpers don't speak english and just knit in ajoining room and aren't helpful at all. Fruit at front desk are old and not edible. Is a good location. Promo Code is gobblegobble. Their are better places to stay nearby.

We love it!
By ,
We've stayed at Ocean Park Inn several times. It is right on the beach, with restaurants, stores, and rental equipment nearby. We usually park and walk for the 3 or 4 days we are there, but San Diego tourist destinations are a short drive away. We love that the hotel has more of a local flavor, than touristy. The pool is nice if you don't want to get sand on your feet, and you can walk or ride a bike for miles, up and down the boardwalk. The ocean front rooms have plenty of space and a great view. We will absolutely return many times in the future.

Awesome Little Place
By ,
The only reason I'm writing this is cuz I thought the last review was pretty funny. Yea the carpets were a little ragged - but the whole hotel is going through a rennovation - and they told me the carpets are being changed next month! And the "filth"....haha what a joke. Our room at least was spotless - and I'm not the type to stay at a cruddy motel. I'm sticking up for the place because the front desk staff went extremely out of their way to help us, and the location is unbeatable. Literally on the sand, a million restaurants and bars within walking distance. We parked and never got back in the car. Perfect for a couple's weekend away. Ask for the junior suite which has a nice little tub and balcony looking at the ocean. We also liked the free breakfast and wifi. We're definitely going back!! Thank you Ocean Park!!!!!!!!

DON'T GO : (
By ,
Checked in...... Beautiful lobby.....then in the hall on the way to our room, OMG!!!! there were pieces of spackle along sides of the carpeting and the hall also smelled gross...got to room...stains all over carpet. The pictures online are so deceiving! They think all they have to do is put a HDTV in a room or a satin drape on the bottom of a dirty bed and you won't notice the filth! We went back to the front desk, to get a refund and found out that they had already charged our credit card for the whole week! Most hotels don't charge until you checkout. The only good thing I can say is, "they did give us a full refund and within a few hours the money was back in our account". I would not recomend this hotel unless all you care about is a good location.

Rude Staff
By ,
The location is good, but the staff is rude and unhelpful. The place smells and the rooms are dirty. The breakfast is free, but for a good reason!!! They also harass guests if you dont check out in time and have a rediculous non smoking policy that is enforeced after you check out. Be carefull you might get a surprise on your Credit Card Statement.

Hard to Review Ocean Park Inn
By ,
The Ocean Park Inn: The first 2 nights we stayed in a 2 room suite that overlooked their very nice and warm pool. This room had a large balcony and small view of the ocean. You could hear the ocean if you kept your patio door/windows open at night. The room was clean, decorated nicely and had a full size table and kitchenette. We really liked this room and pleaded with them to let us stay in it even though we would be giving up the full oceanview. It was perfect for the 4 of us. My teens could stay up later since it had a TV in the living/kitchen area and also one in the bedroom. Since they do assign rooms at the time of reservation we had to move to our 1 room oceanview room. This room was very spacious but not nearly as nice. It needed updating and the bathroom was in desparate need of caulking. The patio screen door was broke but they did fix it immediately when I called. The balcony was very small. This was the kind of room that even when cleaned(which they did a great job on) did not look like it because it was old and needed work. Showers in both rooms had excellent water pressure. We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast was fabulous. Waffles, eggs, variety of cereals and the best cinnamon rolls and other pastries. I grade a continental breakfast on the serving of some kind of protein and they got an A+. Parking in their garage was an issue. We had rented a small SUV and most parking spots were for compact cars only. We had a very difficult time parking our car, often having to take up 2 compact spots, which everyone was having to do, which resulted in less spots. Also, if you came in late at night-forget about it. Pacific Beach Area: The beach area and boardwalk were not clean. When asked, I was told they clean every Friday. Once a week is not enough with the amount of people in the area. Water temp was great@74degrees. However, we did not like the amount of seaweed that would wrap around you when playing in the waves. My teens loved the surf area which is separate from the swim area. The Pacifc Beach Surf Shop across from the hotel is the place to go for lessons and rentals. Gave us a discount since both kids got lessons and even gave us a 2 for 1 rental on skateboards. This is not an area for kids. I was not happy that my 2 teens were exposed to an area of heavy drinking. Open street bars everywhere and many adults were walking around that obviously had too much to drink. The bars were filled to capacity(seen as walking down the boardwalk) even during the day. Average age in the twenties. Felt we could put up with during the day but not good at night. The area by this hotel was crowded. There were police patrolling and they were kept busy. Every night at least one big fight in the area. Usually over a girl. We read about the homeless in San Diego and were prepared. They sleep out on the benches on the boardwalk directly across from the oceanview rooms. Most are quiet but not always. The boardwalk is very busy, at least in August, with a lot of noise and partying crowds walking by until about 1-2am. For this reason, I cannot recommend this hotel to families, unless they reserved a room in the back of the hotel and off the boardwalk. We did not have any of these problems with our first room we had that was back by the pool. As you can see, this was a difficult review. Maybe a month other than August would be different. We liked having a Ralphs grocer, 7Eleven and numerous restaurants nearby. Just north of Ocean Park Inn was Tower 23 and Pacific Terrace Hotel, both much quieter but a lot more expensive. A few blocks south was the Best Western, which looked nice also, more in the mission beach area which is quieter. All these hotels are directly on the beach/boardwalk. The Pacific Hotel was on a bluff and had a lot of stairs to the beach.

Great View!
By ,
We had an ocean front view from the 3rd floor. The rooms were very large. We were able to see dolphins from our balcony. The boardwalk was busy with skateboarders, bicycles, walkers and joggers. The continental breakfast contained several different pastries, coffee, juice and cereal. I would go back in a heartbeat!

do not stay here
By ,
hallways to rooms smell. rooms decent, until stains revealed on mattress while searching for a missing ipod. place denies responsibility, but someone with room access clearly took it. dont stay here. if forced to stay out of convenience in location, lock up your valuables inside the safe in closet. don't learn the hard way. waste of time and energy looking for something stolen. horrible. they can't be trusted. do not stay here.

Awesome Hotel
By ,
The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.
