Nice but no air conditioning!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/09
The hotel has an attractive and stylish interior due to the renovation. The grounds are also well taken care of. However most of the rooms have NO air conditioning! That is just ridiculous for a hyatt. Fortunately the weather was decent though I was uncomfortable leaving the door open at night. In addition the hot tub was drained for some reason. Though I liked the hotel overall I definately can't reccomend it considering no air for this price.

Not as Bad as Some of the Reviews Indicate
By LindaM, 11/20/08
My husband attended a conference at the Post Graduate Naval School near here with some activities at this resort. I was a little hesitant about joining him after seeing some of the reviews. It is an older hotel that has been remodeled. We were on the 2nd floor so opening a window was not a problem. I would definately recommend asking for a 2nd floor or higher room unless you don't need the window opened at night (no air conditioning). We also were not facing the driveway or parking lot so that probably helped keep out some of the traffic noise. We had quite a few shade trees on the window side to cut out at least some of the sun. The bed was not as comfortable as Marriott or HIlton brand hotels. The room obviously had been remodeled and fit the flavor of the hotel. The bathroom was very small but classy. The shower was big and no door was o.k. in this case. The furnishings while not within my taste were functional except for the desk chair which had no wheels. Having a mini fridge was good for our 4 day stay. The resort is nice although there was a lot of noisy construction going on. It was not the best location to be without a car. There are closer hotels to the ocean and tourist facilities. If you are a golfer, you probably wouldn't care about getting out of the resort area. The exercise room has some very nice equipment too. Although not limited to this hotel, I'm always surprised when a hotel charging as much as they do, do not provide free internet service. T-Mobile Hot Spot service may be purchased and the signal was fairly strong. The buildings are older and do not have the sound proofing of the newer hotels but we didn't find it too bad. We could hear the guy walking around in the room above us at times. I was a little surprised by the limited staffing of the lobby. The gift shop was supposed to be open all day but it was locked with a sign to see the desk staff. The desk staff always seemed to be in the back. The housekeeping personnel were pleasant and very hard working.

Do not expect 5 star at a 3 star price- good deal!
By DUDE, 11/05/08
I'm a local, live in carmel, I've stayed at the Hyatt for under 200.00 per night, service is good and so is the food. The rooms are clean but not 5 star. I'm a person who gets a room to sleep in not get wowed in. I've stayed in hotels that I paid top dollar for and I was wowed. The purpose to stay at this Hyatt is location, clean, and safe.

Where did you say the Hyatt was again?
By E, 07/26/08
The staff was friendly and helpful. Maybe someone in upper management accidentally stumbled onto this website. Like most of the reviews posted here, I suppose my wife and I expected more from the name and it's reputation as a 5 star establishment. Throwing in a golf course and spa, you would figure the clientele that is trying to be attracted alone would demand more in return for ones investment. Maybe that happens. However, that was not our experience during our stay. 1. The room we spent our time in was in a good location. It was next to the pool and hot tub away from the bustle of the lobby and all the activity that normally takes place at the entrance of a hotel. To our surprise though, the pool outside our sliding glass door was under constuction. I figured they had 2 pools, no problem. We were tired from the drive, my wife is disabled and we had already been moved once before so I didn't want to fuss. They did offer to move us again. I guess I didn't figure that they would be cutting the tiles for the pool at 8 a.m. 2. A hotel /spa & resort without A.C. ? Maybe in Fairbanks Alaska. This is not something (no matter what the natural climate is) I would let get out. Did I mention that my wife is disabled? 3. The rooms also had no drawers for clothing which I found to be rather odd. We called the desk and requested more clothes hangers for we only had 5 total. We ran out of all hangers around the time we got to my briefs. I'm very grateful that we had a closet. 4. The last thing I wanted to mention was the ice breaker. On our last day (Day 2) somewhere inbetween "good night honey" and "I think it's an air raid!" we had the good fortune of being present (Wednesday morning) during the intermittent testing of the entire units smoke alarms. Before noon, without notice. None. Nothing. I mean zero. We called to complain. The desk was unaware of such an activity taking place . It went on for another 5 or so minutes.

Please treat yourself better and go to a real three star hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/08
The worst part of this "resort" is there is no air conditioning inside the room. We arrived that day at 94 degree and it was very stuffy inside the room. If you open the balcony door you will hear the noise coming from the highway. Unfortunately, most of the standard rate rooms are facing the highway! The bathroom is newly remodeled, but the carpet is still quite old. Anyway, I think a "resort" without a/c can not be qualified as three star hotel at all when you pay so much and end up staying inside an oven! I feel better at home lying on my couch with my a/c on.

sleep under the bridge, you will get better service there!
By , 04/14/08
1 hour check in process. Got vouchers for the bar while waiting so that was not too bad.The service in the bar was very sub standard. We got to the room it still had toothpaste in the sink and hair every where. The next morning we had breakfast that was compt, spent most of the afternoon in the restroom.

Wonderful, relaxing stay
By KathleenS, 03/11/08
Do not listen to bad reviews! The rooms are renovated, clean, very comfortable with high end amenities. The entire staff, from front desk to maids to gardeners are wonderful and kind! Food at the restaurant was excellent (again with some of the best wait staff) and comparably priced. The grounds are attractive and impeccably groomed. My only complaint was traffic noise from freeway, which hotel has no control over. Just need earplugs! The elevators can be a walk to the rooms but concierge does offer luggage help. Would not hesitate to stay again. Great job on the remodel!

Worst, of the worst !!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/19/08
Expected a "Hyatt Regency", got a run down, outdated, want to be resort( which I got charged for!!!) Stayed at a Holiuday in San Francisco that was 10 times better !! When I wrote to Hyatt, they said sorry, we are going to renovate, we'll give you a discount next time you stay with us....like I ever would again!!

Stinky, disappointing, never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/07
Though staff was polite, they were not very efficient. Lots of mistakes were made on my bill. There were no staff members to valet customers for taxis nor valet parking. A lot of people were taking cabs that were reserved for other people. Room service was very quick to bringing my order and what I ordered was very delicious. Only one complaint, the coffee wasn't hot. Oh my..the room. YUCK. NO way is this a Hyatt chain. Dirty and moldy smelling rooms. Screens all falling off of balcony doors in almost every bldg. Our elevator was out of service and I was on the 3rd floor. Stairs to 1st floor were trashed with chips, cups, dirt, etc.... The noise of construction was awful and very inconvienent. This hotel has a LONG way to go before it's acceptable carrying Hyatt's name.
