16 reviews for Hotel Carlton, San Francisco
WONDERFUL staff and a cute hotel!
By John, 06/04/09
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Carlton for our honeymoon. We originally had other hotels in mind but the great reviews led us to the Carlton and we couldn't have been happier! The staff was terrific, helpful and welcoming. We were always greeted in a friendly manner when we returned from our days' adventures. The evening wine receptions were great fun and provided wonderful opportunities to meet the other guests. The Carlton attracts a multinational crowd, so the conversation is lively. One evening, we stayed in the lobby with two other pairs of guests long after the wine reception was over, breaking open another bottle of wine and fully enjoyng the company and the comfortable venue. The room was clean and comfortable, too. Finally, the price was a steal - and allowed us plenty of leftover cash to enjoy a number of SF's 3500+ restaurants, many of which are only a short walk from the hotel. A terrific experience all around!

Great Home away from Home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/08
My husband and I spent 2 nights at this lovely little hotel. For us, boutique hotels are the only way to go. From our initial reception by Emilie, we knew we had chosen the right place to stay. She was very helpful during our entire stay and always called us by name. Her recommendations for sightseeing and dining were great. The location was central to most attractions and public transportation and Ben was gracious in mapping our route each day. (He's better than Mapquest.) In addition, he always asked if there was anything we needed each time he saw us. Rommel also assisted us. The entire staff, even those whose name we did not know were attentive and courteous. The personalized service was far more than we expected. If you prefer a small intimate place to stay, this is the one. After a busy day of sightseeing, the daily wine reception was a nice way to begin the evening. Thanks to the entire staff for making our visit to San Francisco a memorable one. On our next visit we plan to stay with you again.

Suprising Find
By Dave, 05/28/08
I lived in SF for 3 years, and usually stay at hotels near my old location. This time I decided to try somewhere different, and was pleasantly suprised, convenient location, walkable, and much better area then the Hilton SF that I had stayed at earlier on. Street parking wasn't too hard to find. The Brick restaurant next door is great, the Aces bar up the street is a nice little place to grab a couple drinks. And lots of little cafe's within a short walk. Would stay there again next time.

Best Kept Secret!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/23/08
From the moment that we checked in we received excellent service. The hotel is in excellent condition and located just far enough from Union Square, that a nice brisk walk will get you there in minutes. We took the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and witnessed the 'BushMan' in action. He sits across from Joe's Crab Shack. The restaraunt located within the hotel is awesome, but I recommend reservations. Parking, we parked our rental car across the street and had access to it 24/7 for a pretty reasonable price. The rooms are very nice; we had 2 double beds and plenty of internet strength. The front desk staff is very helpful; especially since they are all locals. We will stay here again; and hopefully in the near future.

What wonderful staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/04/07
I have travelled to many countries around the world but never have I met staff like the staff of this hotel. from the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were at a five star hotel. There first words to us were We are here to be used and abused by you.Every time we entered the lobby the door was opened for us, we were asked how our day went and could they help us with anything.I have never met such wonderful staff who were there for us and did everything in thier power to make our visit to San Francisco one to remember.Well done to everyone at the Carlton. Rosemary from Ireland.

An Honest opinion.....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/08/07
11/12/2006 - 11/14/2006 Upon arrived at the hotel we were checked in very promptly. Unfortunately my new husband and I had been booked into what was described as a Queen room Which consists of 2 slightly larger than single beds. Dissapointed at this as we had just got married 4 days earlier in Las Vegs I asked the receptionist if he could change us to a double room. We were told that there were no rooms available so we had to swap rooms with my parents (which I wasnt over happy about) however the receptionist was less than helpful and we eventually accepted. I feel that I must mention that this hotel has an arabic fusion cuisine resturaunt so beware if you dont like the smell of strong sprices as it drifts all over the hotel and I didnt have a problem untill I experienced it for myself. The room was immaculate and very well decorated. Im not putting in another negative comment but if you want to be central use a hotel nearer Fishermans Wharf. I was shocked to see the number of homeless people sleeping on the streets. Coming from the UK I was not used to seeig that and I found it really really hard to see. I found this area a bit rough at night and we were approached many times by what I can only describe as dodgy characters whom appeared to be going in and out of the hotel reception area at night. This hotel to us was really only for dumping our cases in and sleeping in. The location of the hotel is great for shoppers are Union Square is only about 3 blocks away.

It's ok for the money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/20/06
I recently stayed in this hotel and wanted to say that the location is great , in the heart of SF downtown. Bed and room was clean. no decent food in hotel , eventhough the restaurant is inside the hotel , my advise , find a decent meal somewhere outside... In general , it was a good stay and most probably , I will stay there a second time

A Good Choice
By Sailor Nate, 02/16/06
The inside of the hotel was very nice, and the free wine tasting every night was a plus. The Staff was very friendly and welcoming. The parking is a little inconvinent, but as is so everywhere else in the city. The neighbor-hood around the hotel is questionable, but the staff was very helpful in letting us know where what parts of the city should be visited, as well as what areas to avoid. At night it could get a little loud outside. The hotel itself was great and worked out well for our Valenines Day get away. My girl friend even recieved a little gift from the hotel on Valentines Day.
