Great Ocean Views
By ,
The hotel is more of a motel, but it was clean and the service was great. The restaurant on the 4th floor has good food and a great bar to sit at facing the window and ocean. The only issue we had is that the rooms are loud. We were on the 1st floor under the lobby area, bad location if you are a light sleeper! You could hear people rolling their bags across the tile floor. We brought our two small dogs and the only complaint I have is that the yard area for them to use is too small and lacking of grass. We'd go back though.

June 4 Day Trip
By ,
This is a great place to stay if you want to play on the beach, be away from the crowds yet moments away from all the action of Monterey. The lobby is a huge room with stuffed chairs and huge windows to view the sunsets in comfort, or if you have an ocean view room you can sit right on the balcony. Don't stay on the first floor if you want to see the beach. We stayed on the second floor, which provided easy access to the beach and to the parking lot. I do think that for the price of these rooms, parking should be included. There is a $10 per night parking charge for a gated private parking lot. With the whale watch package, aquarium package and three nights we spent $980 for an ocean view room. The bed was comfy and the room was large.

We love the area
By ,
We chose the Monterey Beach Resort because it is the only hotel on the beach in the Monterey area. The location is ideal for the roar of waves and scenery. Two things to know - the first is there is a $10/nite parking fee on top of the very high room tax and (2) during both check in and check out the desk clerks could have cared less if you were there or not. I was very surprised at the cold reception we received when we arrived - hardly a smile to be seen. The hotel ammenties are very basic but who cares when the view, in the ocean view rooms, are sublime. This view is also visible in the lobby/lounge and the restaurant.... I was disappointed however that the visit was marred by these two things. Kudos on the very comfortable beds!

My Dream Come True!!
It took me alomst 40 years, but I made it to the Pacific Ocean. I grew up on the beach in Brooklyn, NY, and as a kid, I always wanted to see California. Talk about breath taking, this Hotel will blow you away! I was there with the love of my life who resides not too far from the hotel and I must recommend this place to anyone with kids, or lovers, or anyone needing a beach front get away. This is a beach lovers paradise at a price that is just unbelievable. As for the hotel setting and design, trust me I am a hard party to easily satisfy and I am a clean/neat freak to the 3rd degree. The plant life, the quality of room, the service of staff and anything we needed was delivered as if my sweetheart and I were royalty. I felt like a King in paradise. I will be back to this establishment again and again. You good folks just don't go out of business on me, because as long as me and my sweetheart lives, we will never forget our 1st beach front stay on the Pacific and how romantically we fell ever so much deeper in love due to the atomosphere you great folks delivered. Thumbs up and Hats off to a great staff &establishment. H.A Williams

Noisy rooms and terrible service.
By ,
My hotel room was located right next to the elevator shaft. Whenever someone used the elevator, the noise was extremely loud and the vibrations literally made the room shake. I was awoken at 5:00 a.m. by the sound and the noise did not stop for the rest of the morning. After 20 minutes of this racket, I went to the front desk to complain. I asked to be moved to a different room (which the desk clerk agreed to do). I also asked about receiving a discount on my hotel stay due to the disturbance. The desk clerk said he was not authorized to give me a discount and that the manager had not yet arrived. However, the desk clerk agreed to pass on a message to the manager. I gave the desk clerk my cell phone number and asked that the manager call me when he arrived later that morning. I also said that I was available at that phone number all day. Incredibly, the manager never bothered to call me back. After half the day had passed by, I finally called the hotel and asked to speak to the manager. When the manager came on the phone line, I identified myself by name as a hotel guest and asked if he had received my message. The manager initially told me that he did not know who I was. When I explained my circumstances and the issue about my room, the manager then remembered that he had received "a message about an unhappy hotel guest" but that he had been "too busy to call earlier"! At no point did the manager apologize for my inconvenience nor did he offer to give me a discount. It was only when I asked him about giving me a discount that he agreed to discount the price for my second night's stay.

Horrible Customer Service!
By ,
I was very excited to stay at this hotel after receiving a glowing recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately, i will NEVER stay there after experiencing their horrible customer service. I made a reservation using the online reservation system and the system incorrectly reserved the wrong date. I called after the date had passed, but BEFORE the date I was supposed to stay there. They charged me for a "no show" even though the error was made on their end. The reservation staff and Assistant General Manager were incredibly rude to me throughout the entire process. I will NEVER stay there in the future, and will tell all my friends and business associates to do the same. The don't deserve our business.

Beware of hidden charges
By ,
Great location, great views, rooms small but adequate. Great to hear the surf, walk on th beach. I did not mind paying for location (previous trip I stayed at HI Express) BUT what is with a parking charge in a non metropolitan area of $10/day AND a $5+/day surcharge, whatever that is. Neither of these are mentioned if you book on line, the parking charge is somewhat evident if you pull up the resort page and read it, but the "Surcharge" is found only if you go to ammenities and on line 27 below the fact there is an iron in your room is it stated that there is a surcharge fee. Both of these are "hidden" costs which I believe are a dishonest way increase income without the consumer realizing until they arrive! Why not include these fees in the quoted room rate if you are being fair, which I always thought BW was. Go for the view, but beware of the extra fees.

Pounding Surf
By ,
It was a nice hotel with nice amenities. It seems a bit cheap in tacking on $10 a day for parking and $5.95 per day for unspecified "service fee" when already charging a nice price for the room. The restaurant food was good, but not excellent.

Excellent stay for the price!
By ,
The only reason I gave a 4 star instead of 5, is because they tacked on extra charges when we showed up. 10 dollars per day to park at the hotel (yes, the same hotel you are paying to stay at) and 6 dollars per day for energy. Outside of that, my wife and I had a wonderful time. The hotel is right on the water, beautiful views, great restraunt on the 4th floor, minutes from fishermans wharf, cannery row and Carmel. Free cable and Wireless High Speed Internet were also a major plus!!! We had a great time, and will definitely stay here again.

Great night view, but restaurant was bit disappointed.
By ,
Only thing I did not like was their restaurant. It was TOO LONG waiting time before seating though some tables are empty.... That was bit late dinner time.
