Very nice and worth every penny!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/11
Don't be deceived by other reviews by people who didn't even stay here; I almost was!!!! It seems that these other people expected to get a "W Hotel" experience for a "Motel 6" price! Let your expectations match your pocketbook people!!! This was a very nice hotel stay. I visited for Memorial day when every other hotel was overcharging; this hotel was NOT! Room was clean. The bathroom could use updated fixtures, but it was not objectionable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in Room 48 and the only complaint was very loud neighbors, but that is their mother's lack of training and not the hotel's fault! My husband had a meeting which ran over and he was unable to get back to the room for check out prior to 12pm. I contacted the front office and they made an exception for a checkout at 1pm for us. This is an EXCEPTIONAL VALUE. Walking distance to Denny's and CVS pharmacy with a cafe on-site. Stay here and the money you save will buy you a nice dinner on the water!!!

I would never go back here again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/26/08
The room we got was one of the worst. The bathroom is separated into two parts, the shower is outside next to the bed, the toilet is like in the corner of the room. The design of the room was awful. It is small. The stair is right next to our room. The stairway pretty much took up half of our room. We paid over $90 for a room. This is probably the worst inn I have ever stayed.

not worth the convenience for Jazz Festival
By S-Pad, 9/18/06
Stayed one night for the Monterey Jazz Festival. Located only 10-minutes walking distance to the fairgrounds, this surely must be the busiest weekend of the entire year for this property. I can't imagine why they had only one staff person for the whole operation. Lack of staff was the reason given for no one being able to bring new batteries for the tv remote control that didn't work. No staff was available when we stopped by the office on the way back from the concert, a little after midnight. The one person working was courteous when I checked in. In addition to our own car, our friends were allowed to park their car in the hotel lot for free (parking is often difficult and/or expensive during the festival). The room was clean, and there was a good amount of storage space. The decor was very out of date but they did have some tasteful photos of the local scenery. The bathroom was not spacious, but not small either. Only a minimum of generic toiletries (soap & shampoo only) were provided and the towels were pathetic. Had this room been priced at closer to $100, we would have considered it well worth it for the convenience. At just under $200 (with tax) we will be sure to look for something better next time.

price gouging
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/11/05
We stayed at the cypress tree on an "event" weekend and were charge more than TRIPLE the regular rate. (we booked nearly a year in advance!) The bathroom was re-stocked but never cleaned. Both my husband and I got bites/rash, presumably from the bed. Never again.

Don't go here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/18/05
The pictures that this hotel shows on the internet is very dishonest and deceiving. I searched for several days trying to find a nice decent hotel/motel in Monterey because my husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary. I am so sorry that I chose this hotel. We were literally ripped off! I paid $169 + 10% taxes=$175.90 for a room with a spa/hot tub. We were stuck in room 13 with a spa that we couldn't use because there wasn't enough hot water to fill it. When we used the shower, the water barely came out. The room was very dark. There were no lights by the spa or the closet. It looked like the night stand near the bathroom was never moved for cleaning because there were spider webs that was very thick! This room really grossed us out. Next time we will not flinch on paying more for a motel/hotel. It ruined our anniversary. The refrigerator sat on the floor with the microwave on top. We wanted to order room service but we would have had to eat on the bed. We've never been in a motel without a table to sit at.

Not Diver Friendly, or Friendly at all.....!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/04
No matter what you might read elsewhere, this hotel is not diver friendly. I was recommended to this as a place to stay while I carried out my Diver certification in Monterrey, as a place that was able to accomodate dive equipment (e.g. place to wash and hang you gear at the end of the day), as well as a place to go back and take a shower after class (class finished at 12, so would need the eroom up until 1pm). This turned out not to be the case. The receptionists were clueless and unfriendly when I asked about a place to clean and hang my gear, or to keep the run until 12.30 or 1pm (12 noon is apparently the absolute maximum time you can keep the room) Also, even though I requested an upstairs room, I was given a downstairs room, and told I needed to pay $10 extra each day to move upstairs. When I arrived at 3pm the room had no towels, and I had to go to reception at 4.30 to get some. (Just why to you need to check out at 12 if the rooms are not changed until 4pm?) Go next door to the Lone Oak Motel where they have all the facilities you need for a dive friendly time (except they still check you out at 12noon), plus the Lone Oak is $100 cheaper for the weekend. Cypress Tree was $170 for Saturday night ....!!!! Don't take any notice of what people recommend, do your own research......

Beware of Cancellation Policy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/04
While previous encounters with this hotel have been pleasant, the most recent was anything but. My wife made a reservation at around 7:30 in the morning. 10 minutes later she called to cancel the reservation as my plans had changed and I failed to tell her so. Sonny, the front desk guy was very unfriendly and flat out refused to allow the cancellation without a charge. I called and asked to make a reservation for the weekend and asked if rooms were available. The answer was an emphatic yes. At that time I told him who I was and asked to cancel the reservation. He was less than cordial in telling me that they have a 72 hour cancellation policy and I will have to pay. Even though the reservation was made inside the 72 hour period, even though they had plenty of rooms, even though I called to cancel 30 minutes after the reservation was made, even though our booking did not cause them to turn away other customers thereby causing them to lose money by having empty rooms. Sonny was more concerned with explaining their policy to me - than trying to understand why his hotel had the policy in the first place. I was unable to contact the manager (she never called me back) and I am certain they will charge my card for the room. I understand the need for such cancellation terms, but I cannot begin to understand how they would use the policy to hold a customer hostage.

Beware!
