Bernardus Lodge, Carmel Valley

My boyfriend and I loved every minute of our stay. The crew was so sweet and helpful. The rooms were romantic and classy. We have stayed at many beautiful places. My favorite far.. We were greeted with a glass of wine.. Lunch on patio was fabulous. The rooms are so perfect and so romantic.. The mini bar had snacks that are included with your stay.. YES included! I am still in shock. We enjoyed room service breakfast on the extremely private and lovely patio. The food was fabulous!! I can't say enough how wonderful this place was. LOVED!!!!!

We went there for lunch and wine, We had a wonderful time, the staff was great the food was wonderful, will return again.

We often stay in Carmel at Spanish Bay to take advantage of the spa/golf packages. We have in the past also taken advantage of spa/golf packages at Quail Lodge. In trying to find a off season deal we found the Golf and Spa package for Bernardus at $395 and booked the same with a live agent; the manager that works for the lodge. That was a month ago. Today we recd. and email to set or golf/spa reservations and when we called to do so we were told that we both had to spa or we both had to golf. This is not how we vacation; he golfs and I spa. But I thought this was clear as I had a long conversation with this same manager on my original booking day about how he would book his gold morning and who I was to call to book my spa time. That would have been the ideal time for the manager to note it is both to golf or both to spa. Anyhow she did not. When we called to their attention that the Bernardus web site description states "a daily choice per person of a pampering 50-minute spa treatment or a round of golf at a premium Carmel Valley golf course her response was that sales used that wording and that she does not look at the web site daily. Mind you this is the same language that was on the site when I booked the package and will likely be the same language for weeks to come. In the end she said she hopes to see us in the future. What a joke. We will take our money elsewhere and share this information in reviews.

It is such a beautiful hotel, the grounds were so nice. The staff was wonderful and our room was clean, beautiful and peaceful. I am booking another weekend in Springtime. I highly recommend this Hotel, you will love it!!!

We went for 3 days with a company board meeting. The rooms were fair; nothing more. The food was unexceptional, almost poor. The staff was self-impressed in the front hall although others were quick to say hello on the grounds. The spa was understaffed so all they could say was "sorry, no and sorry, no". I would not come back to spend my own money here.

Where do I start? Staff was errogant, Service in Wickets was the Worst, I was told that I should not order a Salad because the Kitchen was to Busy do to a wedding. My Wife returned to her room to find the "Bed Turn Down staff" sitting on my Floor watching a TV show. I was constantly charged for items I did not order or receive while dining. When Management was contacted for any of the infractions mentioned it was for all intents and purposes swept under the carpet with a "we are ery sorry" Frankly had I heard we were sorry one more time I was going to be sick. The Bellhops and Car attendant service was very good, They always knew our last names and were very good, Perhaps the entire staff should ask them what they are doing right. The reason for our Visit was my parents 50th Wedding Anv. There were approx 14 of us in attendance and ALL experienced numerous encounters over the period of the weekend that WIll make going back to this Lodge a Big FAT NO! 5 STAR Hotel? Yea Right....500.00 a night to find there staff using my living Room....Never again.

We loved the Bernardus Lodge so much that we decided to extend our stay for an extra night. And this is why: The service is above average. Every single staff member that we talked to was kind and eager to help. The setting is amazing!! The lodge is so peaceful and the views of the vineyards and mountains are beautiful!! And if you like to play croquet, the Bernardus Lodge is your paradise!!! Although the prices were quite high for us, it was definitely worth every single penny because unlike most hotels (that charge you $4 when you want to take a water bottle or a snack from the mini bar in your room), the Bernardus is completely different. The Bernardus does not "nickel and dime" you. Waiting in your room when you check in are complementary bottles of wine, water, soda, and delicious cookies!! Additionally, the lobby has complementary coffee every morning and the spa always has complementary tea. I would definitely recommend the Bernardus Lodge to adults and teenagers but I would not recommend it to families traveling with young children. If I was ever in the area again, I would definitely return to the Bernardus Lodge!!!!!!!!

We stayed there on our wedding night...it was perfect. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was so warm and friendly. Our room was georgous and filled with wine! What a great experience, we will definetly be back!

The rooms are large and comfortble. They have a luxurious home feel to them. The grounds and atmosphere is upscale, but relaxed. The services is also excellent.

I live in Monterey, and my boyfriend and I wanted to get away, but didn't ahve the time to actually go somewhere. We drove out to Bernardus, where we'd had dinner before but never actually stayed there. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, rooms gorgeous (we stayed in suite 18 which overlooks the croquet lawn--stunning). The food is freshly picked and the service is excellent. It was a very romantic weekend, and one we hope to have again, very soon and for years to come.
