a decent hotel
By AaronB, 7/29/11
'While this place is far from a 5 star hotel, our stay here was pleasant. Do not confuse this property with the "Jack London Inn", which is a couple of blocks away. Yahoo rated the "Jack London Inn" as the 2d dirtiest hotel in America not this property which is "The Inn at Jack London Square".

Yahoo Travels #2 Dirtiest Hotel in America..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/11
Check out the latest Yahoo "America's Dirtiest Hotels"...This hotel is #2 on the list. These positive reviews must either be homeless people with suddenly some extra cash or reps from the hotel. Our neighbor stayed here and you'd better believe the Yahoo Travel ratings are right on!

The Only Place I Will Stay in Area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/29/09
From the funky elevator to the location within walking distance of the ferry, Amtrak, great restaurants and Square events I love this motel. It is away from the noise and crowded city and just a short walk to the water. I have stayed twice and have found the staff extremely courteous and helpful. Also, you can't beat the price.

I've heard nothing but good things
By TJ, 7/2/08
Something smells here and it's not the Inn at Jack London Square: "staff was rude and inconsiderate," "surly service person," "people at the front desk said hardly a thing to us," "do not expect friendly staff," "the front desk service was AWFUL," "not great staff," "no follow up was done by motel staff." Only one of six anonymous reviewers ("A Yahoo Contributor") is at all complimentary and a couple of others have no profile at Yahoo any more. Somebody (the competition, maybe?) is trying to stack the deck here. Check out Tripadvisor and you'll see a whole different story about this fine lodge. Most travelers doing business with my agency who stayed here have thanked me for recommending this good, reasonably priced lodging near Jack London Square, Yoshi's Jazz Club, and the excellent late-night Buttercup Restaurant. Take a look at the photos. They say more than these phoney reviews.

Don't Be Fooled...Don't Stay Here
By f, 5/15/08
This hotel is not the Jack London Inn. It is really a Best Western who lost they name. When I got there I realized this wasn't the Inn we stay at every year. My wife booked and we wanted to go to the Jack London Inn and cancle here. The manager in charge was very rude to me and my wife and said I still have to pay even though he agrees there is a lot of problems cause they changed their name to sound like the Jack London Inn. I asked to talk to the owner and he said he won't do anything about it because it was him who changed the name. We had two other friends coming and they didn't like this at all. They felt it was bad business to copy another hotels name. Our rooms (we had no choice but to stay) were old and tired, there is a hip hop club across the street that kept us awake all night and we were afraid to go out cause people were all over the club. Don't be fooled, this is not the inn you may think it is. There's no continentle breakfast offered, you need to go to a restaurant for that (there's one there but it's very expensive), the people who work there are no nice and the rooms not worth the money..

Horrible Experience
By Ryan Brown, 5/14/08
The front desk staff was rude and inconsiderate. When we checked in, we were given a dirty room. After one hour they moved us to another room. The noise from a bar woke us at 2 am and dint subside until 3. No manager appeared on the weekend and the staff just shrugged when told of our problems. I will never bring my family here again

Very nice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/30/08
If you're a low-maintenance traveller looking for a clean place to stay this is among the least expensive places in the area, and we found it just right. We booked on hotels.com and got a great rate. Our conference ran early to late, so we just wanted a place to sleep, shower and relax. Bus service was great getting around. The staff up front was pleasant, but don't expect a concierge. There's easy wireless access for laptop use in the room. The pool looked nice on a larger inner patio surrounded by the rooms, but it was rainy when we visited. Flowers were all about. The Buttercup Grill next door was good for coffee and breakfast. You're close to the water about two blocks away and there's a fantastic (lovely AND affordable) Cambodian restaurant called Battambang on Broadway just five blocks away. It was a gem. Cabs or easy bus access get you around town. BART to the airport's about a six block walk. We will return, happy to have lots of money left over for enjoyment outside of our hotel room!

Bad service, not so nice place
By Dorena, 3/16/07
When my coworker and I arrived, the people at the front desk said hardly a thing to us and were barely audible themselves. Throughout our entire stay they never said "Hello, thank you, Can I help you?, How are you?, Hi, etc." We had to ask them everything we needed to know about the place, such as where our rooms were located, where the elevator was, where to park our car, if there was a pool and workout room, and check out. They were the worse when it came to hotel/motel courtesy. Also, when all 5 of us checked out, the prices charged for each of us was inconsistent. They said this was because some of us did not book online. In reality, we all had booked online the same day. In the end, we lost our arguement with them. Good thing our employer reimburses us. Also, the rooms were bland and smelled moldy and stale. I have to say the landscaping was lovely. Nearly half the equipment in the so-called workout room was broken. Plus at night, a coworker and I noticed that 2-3 rooms had their doors left open all night with the lights off. It was weird and creepy. Not sure why that was. I would NOT recommend this place to stay at unless you had to. I wont stay here again.

Great Place to Stay!
By jlo, 11/10/06
I've read several bad reviews about this place and want to comment. I've stayed here twice now and each time there were no problems. The staff was always courteous and yes, there was a security person on duty everytime we came back at night. He sits right in the lobby guarding the underground parking entrance. The rooms while not 4 star quality are quite comfortable. Sheets were clean, bathroom well stocked, there was a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All working fine. No problems with the trains if you ask for a room facing the courtyard. I've never heard any outside noise, but the walls are thin so you can sometimes hear people in the adjoining rooms. I just put the fan on and it takes care of that. You do get a breakfast coupon for $2 off a meal at the Buttercup adjoining the hotel. For the price this hotel is a wonderful bargain. It's close to the inner harbor, the ferry to San Francisco and elsewhere and a couple nice restaurants at the square. For history buffs, there's the yacht that FDR once owned to tour also.

Worst Experience EVER
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/2/06
Do not expect friendly staff or a good night sleep. The front desk service was AWFUL, there was always only one attendant and he was constantly on the phone with personal calls. Gave us the keys with no directions as to where to go. When asked for the coupons for breakfast was rude and said we had to wait, thus we never got them. The hotel overall wasn't too bad, the room was clean, but smelt funny. It had great location to the Jack London Square area and everything was in walking distance. It is close to the trains, but that noise wasn't that bad. However, do not expect any sleep if you are there on a weekend. They are buy a night club that had loud bass all night long and a motorcycle race on the street. You could hear everything outside. I felt like I was outside the noise was so LOUD! The whole experince was awful and the staff was not welcoming or helpful at all.
