Best Place in Town!
By Susan, 05/26/09
My family and I have been coming to the King Frederik for at least 11 years and we have never had a bad experience. It is a great meeting point for those up north to meet family from down south. The rooms are clean, reasonably priced, the personnel is friendly and helpful, the pool is lovely, my kids love the fresh pastries, and the location can't be beat. Arrange to see a play and you walk only a block and you are there. Wonderful!!! Always try here first.

reasonable, good and clean
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/18/07
central location, close to all restaurants, etc. Clean, remodeled room. friendly staff. comfortable. I skipped breakfast so I can't comment on it. Thanks to the new windows, I couldn't hear any traffic noise.

5 Star Motel...not an oxymoron!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/26/07
My boyfriend and I selected this motel based on many enjoyable stays at other best western hotels. The King Frederik was no exception. The room was spacious and clean, and the motel was centrally located. The breakfast served in the lobby was varied, and had great pastries from one of the many local bakeries...you could fill your breakfast tray, and feast on danish, muffins, toast, cereal, coffee, milk and juice! The generous breakfast alone made it worth while! The pool was nice, but it was too cold outside to swim. The German restaurant next door (the Heidelberg Inn) has great food in an outdoor beer garden atmosphere. We shared a huge pitcher of german beer and dined on sausage and cabbage. A delightful getaway in a sleepy town.

DIRTY AND UGLY AND NOT COMFORTABLE
By , 06/12/07
for 98 we thought it was a good deal but how it wasn't, first off it should have been cheaper as it was a random tuesday night in June with not many tourists. Then, the room was tiny and worst off DIRTY! The worst part was when i was getting in the blankets and i found little bugs which I thought at first were bedbugs but they weren't, then on the underneath of the comforter there were long hairs which were definitely not either of ours so it was obvious that they did not clean the blankets or sheets. They brought up new ones but still bad experience. The place seemed really outdated and dirty but the pastries were good but then again its Solvang, where the only good things are pastries. I would recommend the Royal Copenhagen Inn where once we got a bigger room for lesser price.

An okay lodging facility
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/13/07
The Staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. However, as is probably the case for almost all lodging in Solvang, this facility is very dated and in great need of renovation. One notes plaster patching on the wall and layers and layers of paint. Furnishings and decor are very dated. In short, the owners do the best they can by keeping clean and neat a facility that should have gone through a renovation probably six or eight years ago at least.

we won't stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/06
My wife and I stayed there for 3 days, we try to always stay at a Best Western. The room was extremely small for the price of a Best Western, maybe 12 x 12. The TV had a green spot in the upper left corner, which grew larger. The continential breakfast consist of Danich rolls (Hard), juice and/or coffee. The motel is located on Coenhagen, the back side, the office and rooms are located on the busy/noise hwy 246/Mission Drive.

My 5 Year Old Is Planning His Birthday Around Staying Here
By Suzzi, 08/17/05
We were in Solvang and I had a hurt foot. We stopped at the hotel at 8am with no reservations and they put us in a room immediatly. We had a very nice upstairs room overlooking the pool. It was very quiet and very clean. Room service prices very reasonable. Continental breakfast was good. Just juice, coffee, tea, and pasteries but all delicious. Coffee maker in room (always a plus). Since we hadn't planned on staying in a hotel we did not have certain things (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, etc) all were provided to us by hotel. Since it is right in the heart of town we were able to go back and forth very easily (good for me). We are planning a trip up there again this weekend for my son's birthday and we will be staying there again.
