after reading all the reviews on this hotel i thought i was worry free. the rooms were clean but something smelled kinda bad. it was really cold too during our stay and the heated was so loud and gave off a burning smell. another thing was its right next to where the caltrain passes. althought we could barley hear it over the loud heater, when the heater was off it was pretty loud. they also don't have elevators. i know its only 2 stories high, we had 5 large suit cases and 3 children (1,2,7) so we had to lug everything up the stairs and make sure our kids got up there safe. the staff was super friendly though and the location is very close to the airport.

Still my favorite!

Of all the airport stayovers, this motel is just the best! Our family has never worried about missing a flight, forgetting luggage, or being harried on the mornings we had to be at SFO for a flight out. The staff is so efficient, the motel so comfortable, and the car park so safe, we have always breathed such a sigh of relief when we arrive at El Rancho. We have also discovered it is a legend to many in our northbay town of Novato.

the best especially with kids...

we couldn't find a decent place to stay , w/o a reservation , because it was memorial day weekend , it was close to midnight , and finally we went here , and wow , our suite so clean and had plenty of towels and soap and shampoo dispensers in the bath , it is so close to everything 24hr. safeway , mc donalds, etc... and the staff is so friendly , and although, i stayed in the back , me and my family slept like logs , the kids loved it ages 5 to 13 , the pool , the excersize room , i also loved the price the best.

dont stay in the back

Whatever you do don't stay in the back. The Caltrain runs every 3 hours and it is less than 50 yards from the back buildings. The plumbing in my room was backwards and it kept going hot and cold. The room walls in the back were thin. I am sure the front buildings are fine I would have rather had stayed there then being awoken every 3 hours from the passing train. Close to airport and very convenient

Within walking distance of foodstores, Trader Joe's, a very complete hardware store, and local Mexican restaurants. Not fancy, but clean. Good internet speed, but only on ethernet in room. Wireless near lobby

Great for Park and Ride

My husband and I stay at this hotel everytime we fly out of San Francisco International Airport. The rates are really good and it is a fun way to start our trip. The rooms are small but have everything you need and they are very clean and quiet. There is a pool there but the facilities we like the most are the bar and resturant. We like to have a drink at the bar and dinner the night before we leave out of SFO. The atmosphere and food are really good.We feel like our vacation has already started. The staff is very friendly and the shuttle leaves frequently to the airport. We get 2 weeks free parking with one nights stay. All in all a good deal.

My Favorite SFO Area Hotel

I love the El Rancho Inn. The rooms are clean, comfortable and you can't beat the rates. The staff is very helpful and the hotel is located close to the SFO airport. Driving into the city is easy and fast and it's easy to drive south to the SFO suburbs. When I visit SFO it's either on business or short visits with family/friends. The El Rancho is ideal as a home base.

parking nightmare

The room was great, no complaints about that. But they were holding a wedding there in the Cafe, set to go on until midnight. There was no parking within a mile of our room and the staff person on duty's only comment was "good luck." After eating dinner at the cafe (in a crowded room over the wedding, and we were treated to all the noise and booming music) it was dark and my husband went to find our car (far, far away) which we had not fully unloaded. The lot was still full of frustrated idling motorists and "creatively" double parked cars. The motel did finally resolve the problem by removing a car near our room that was apparently parked for a long-term park and fly, but only after we were persistent in our distress. The problem should have been taken care of before the fact, and this facility is not equipped to handle both a wedding and motel guests without inconveniencing the guests.

Not So Great After All

I reserved a room based on glowing reviews. However, my experience was different. The hotel is too close to railroad tracks, and the trains that go by were constantly blowing their whistles. Also, the rooms were no larger than anything from Motel 6 and they cram too much furniture in too little space. Lastly, you would think that the Internet would be available via something other than a modem, given the class of hotel and location. If you want to stay up all night then this is the place you want. Otherwise, there are many places in the SFO area that provide quiet, comfort, and up-to-date amenities.
