I was disappointed that Best Western would lend its name to this motel. My daughter and I reserved rooms for a three-night stay this past week. Upon arrival and turning on the first light in my room, a roach scooted across the bedside table. My daughter was in the room next door, and killed several of the little rascals during the first night. The next day, we reported the problem to the desk and they assured us they would spray the rooms with insecticide. The second night my daughter encountered several of the insects, and once again asked that they spray, which they did, though there was no odor to the insecticide used, leading her to believe it was fairly weak as an insecticide. So if you don't like roaches, stay away.
The first night there I headed to the ice machine for a bucket of ice, only to find that the ice maker was broken and out of commission. I asked the maintenance man about where I could get ice, and he advised me to go across the street to a competitor motel and use their machine. I chose, instead, to walk to a nearby grocery store and buy some. We reported the broken ice machine to the desk the next morning and were told that the clerk would advise the manager, but that the ice machine didn't belong to the motel so she doubted that it would be fixed until the owner decided to fix it. This turned out to be prophetic, I guess, since it was still broken when we left San Diego two days later.
Another disappointment was the way this motel slipped a daily charge of $1.65 on to our individual bills for the safe that is in each of the rooms. We weren't advised ahead of time, and didn't, in fact, even use the safes, but there were three entries on our bills at checkout for the safe's rental during our three day stay. I thought that sort of cheap and uncalled for, especially since we were not told ahead of time about the charge.
All in all, I'd have to say our stay at this motel was unsatisfactory, and we will not stay here again when we next visit San Diego.
