Why would anyone stay here?

This is a student residence they rent out for the summer. It has all the charms of a student residence including uncomfortable beds, lack of lighting fixtures, stained carpets, counters and abundant insect life, coupled with a price only marginally cheaper than a real hotel. In fact for 20 a night more, you can stay across the street at the White Oaks Resort, which is fairly nice. I have no idea why anyone would stay here. Plus, when we said we wouldn't stay there due to the presence of so many insects in the room, they told us they weren't able to give refunds (only the manager can do this), and it would take 6-8 weeks to recieve, if I wanted to phone on Monday and complain.
Also, they staff are supposed to be graduates of the Hotel and Food Adminstration course on campus, and given the general lack of professionalism, I'd certainly never want to hire them if I owned a hotel, All things considered, I've stayed at nicer, cleaner places in rural Thailand.
