Almondy Bed and Breakfast Inn
Conveniently located in the downtown area, the Almondy is just steps away from famed Bannister's Wharf and local fine restaurants, antique shops, galleries, and boutiques. This elegant Victorian bed and breakfast, furnished with period pieces, offers five guestrooms and suites, with king or queen size beds, private bathrooms with Jacuzzi bath, most with spectacular bay views, and some with a bedside fireplace. One-bedroom suites offer a separate living room. A gourmet breakfast is served daily in the dining room.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this cozy place. My girlfriend and I really lucked out when we found it. First of all you receive a warm courteous welcome when you arrive. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable along with the rooms itself. When you first walk in you will know exactly what to expect when you see the beauty and impeccable surroundings that await you. soft music playing, wine and cheese greet you at days end,and the rooms itself are extremely gratifing. You are in the heart of Newport; a block away from everything. Evelyn's morning breakfast will really start your day off right. Great owners-staff-a MUST visit. Can't wait to go back. ALEX & VICKY
There were just so many things that mt husband and I enjoyed about our 4 night stay at the Almondy.
The rooms the inn, and our quarters were kept immaculatey clean, neat and fresh, anytime of the day or night
The innkeepers were so warm and welcoming, and very helpful in helping us find our way around.
The breakfasts were excellently made in Evelyn's kitchen, and they were phenominal.
I checked on Yahoo Travel site prior to making reservations at Almondy Inn in October, 2006. All of the reviews were glowing as they are now except for one. That individual reported that they had made a reservation at Almondy Inn which included a deposit and then were later called prior to their arrival and informed the room was previously booked and that their reservation would not be honored. That review has since been deleted. Ironically, all the five star reviews from that same period remain except for the one negative review.
Well, the same thing happened to me. The only explanation from I received from Almondy when they called with the bad news was that the room had been previoosly booked. I asked how that could happen. The response was that they were a small business and mistakes occur. I think it's more likely that someone booked at a higher rate after I made my reservation. My advise is to have a back up plan when booking Almondy Inn unless you are paying the full fare.
First of all, I will say that this B&B will set the standard for any B&B I will stay in. My wife and I stayed in the first floor suite and it was gorgeous. The room was spacious and well appointed. In 2003, the house was gutted and totally rebuilt, so everything is brand new. The breakfast there was phenominal, and the 5pm wine and cheese did not hurt either. The inn keepers were wonderful and gracious hosts. Also, the location is great. Parking at Almondy is free, and the tourist areas are literally a 1 minute walk away. I promise when I go back to Newport I will stay at the Almondy Inn.
I've never been to Newport RI before and didn't know where to stay. We just got back from 4 days at the Almondy Inn (returned 8/25/06). There are many B&Bs to choose from and the large hotels on the harbor were really high priced ($350+ per night during high season). Found this place online and really lucked out. The house was complete renovated in 2003 and everything looks brand new and freshly painted. Only has five bedrooms but you don't feel like you are staying in someone else's house. Feels like your own private hotel. We stayed in a suite for $208 per night. Our room had two views of the water and harbor and an awesome jacuzzi tub for 2 that we used every night. The inn is immacuately clean and the innkeepers are a sweet couple from holland that serve gourmet breakfast and wine and cheese in the afternoon (all included). On top of that you are 2 blocks from all the great restaurants, ferry, shops, etc. Would recommend this inn to anyone.
