Our Last Stay... Beauty Is Only Skin Deep
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/01/07
My wife and I stayed a fourth time at SCW on Feb 24 2007 for my wife's birthday (for wine tasting!). We were only able to afford the stay because I was fortunate enough to find a Saturday rate of $139/night (regularly $289). At $139, the accomodations are an excellent value. In fact, the accommodations are terrific, and with the exception of the broken Heat/AC unit, perfect. However, the service is inconsistent and more than often, nearly void of any customer care whatsoever. When we arrived on our prior trip about a year ago, the desk attendant led us to our room and asked if we wanted some ice, which we accepted, as there's no ice machines anywhere out near the villas. This stay, nothing. The check-in clerk asked if we had stayed before (answered yes) but with no offer to show us to our villa or supply some ice. When we realized after wine tasting all day and then back from dinner late in the evening that the Heat/AC unit was stuck on AC (and it was 40 degrees out!) and the unit would not shut off, I had to unplug it. I also knew the resort was full, so we did our best :-) to keep warm (turned on the fireplace a couple times but the timer ticking wouldn't allow is to sleep). When I told the front desk clerk on check-out that we nearly froze due to the inoperative Heat/AC unit, she said "sorry".
Needless to say, this was our last trip. I have yet in four stays to get service worth 10% of the cost of the accommodations at what COULD BE the nicest getaway in the best accommodations in Southern California . Beauty is only skin deep... in a nutshell, SCW looks great, feels terrible. Principle alone tells me... NEVER AGAIN.
BTW, we did hear from some new Temecula friends that the new owners of Loma Vista B&B were very nice and the accommodations great. Additionally, I've heard great things about Ramada Temecula on the low end being great on up to Hampton Inn Temecula and Pechanga Casino (we've stayed).
