ZERO STARS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/09
Hotel room dated and dingy, spiders in the bathroom every day and a dead one was on the "clean" sheet. Fan doesn't work in bathroom and a dirty looking "air conditioner" spits out moldy-meldewy dusty air. Gross. Every morning a car alarm went off at 5am - the parking lot was between us and our view of the bay. Aside from the crappy accommodations, the hotel screwed us out of our money. We reserved a room at a certain rate and then were surprised with an "upgrade fee" of $75 + 12% tax PER NIGHT. We left a four day stay owing more than $1000 for that crappy room. Some upgrade. Since then we have disputed the extra charges and their customer service is terrible. We will likely have to pursue the Better Business Bureau and dispute the charges on our credit card. We hate them.

Don't do it!!!!!!!!
By Paul, 06/09/09
Room 131. When you sit down at the vanity be careful you don't fall through the seat. The floor by the bed is raised up, not sure what's underneath it, and don't want to know. There is a hole in the wall covered up by wallpaper. Don't even think about being able to regulate the water temperature in the shower. Don't believe what you see on the website, very deceiving. The only positive thing is the view of the Bay.

Fantastic!
By Stevem, 02/02/09
For the location, price and service you can't get a better deal that this! My fiancee and I stayed in a Bay-view king bed room. The room was very spacious and had a small kitchen. The view was great and the room was very clean. I was very happy with the front-desk service as well. The bar is a fun place to hang-out with friendly staff and good entertainment. I definately recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay at a very nice hotel for a great price!

Not exactly a "Resort"
By Stacia, 11/02/08
Bahia lacked the many qualities you would expect in a Resort. The location however is ideal with just a short walk to the ocean and many restaurants. It is also a very short trip to the zoo and Sea World. So if you go.... plan to do a lot away from the "resort" because there isn't much there.

Love San Diego
By Stacey, 10/21/08
This was our first time coming to San Diego it was so beautiful. I have read several comments about Bahia Resort but wanted to see this resort first hand. The pictures that are on the website are the newly remodeled rooms so make sure you get one of those rooms. The staff was very nice and helpful. We stayed Sunday to Sunday which we noticed on the weekends there was way more traffic (Weddings and Parties). We stayed in the front part were you first drive in which has a public beach so you hear a lot of traffic noise and people talking while walking by. Bahia Resort is walking distance to Belmont Park which is like Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk (Not As good) but fun. Overall I had a great time not sure if I would stay again because of the noise issue.

A huge disappointment!!
By REBECCA, 08/29/08
Oh how I wish we had read reviews of this place! We are from the UK and had spent 2 weeks driving from San Francisco to San Diego, staying at 7 previous hotels along Highway 1. We had asked our Travel agent to book us something really special to finish off our holiday after the long journey and The Bahia was the one she chose. We looked at the website and it looked so luxurious...how deceiving that was!! Our hearts sank almost immediately upon entering the resort, as it was just off a main highway and it had a dated, motel feel about it. A bit Hawaii 5-O crossed with the Norman Bates Motel!! On our journey across California, we had been used to being greeted at hotel entrances by polite and eager to please doormen who had offered to park our car and help us with luggage, as well as taking luggage to our room...and these were just normal hotels, nothing flash. At the Bahia however, there was no such welcome. You immediately felt as if it was a self service motel. The desk staff were friendly enough, although a little preoccupied and over worked. We drove past the salmon pink, pre-fab, concrete bricked, alluminium windowed chalets with disbelief and huge disappointment! This was meant to be such a treat for us and our 2 teenage children. We walked with trepidation and reluctance to our room and it was even worse than we expected. We dragged our heavy cases up some rusty iron and threadbare carpeted open stairway to an ill fitting, ugly door. Inside, we all agreed it smelled like our elderly grandmother's old apartment...a mixture of damp and musty smoke! Delightful! The small twin double bedroom was old fashioned and cramped with damp patches on the wall. The window overlooked the carpark..which meant waking up at the crack of dawn to tennis shots and people getting into their cars...also it is under the flight path. The rest of the room was unbelievably tatty, dated and grubby. We guessed that the chalets must have been built around 60's/70's and not decorated since!! The walls were just painted, concrete blocks (reminiscent of a prison cell!) and the worn cloth and iron furniture was a homage to the browness of the 70s. Wallpaper in the bathroom had been patched up, there were scuffs and dirty marks everywhere. The alluminium sliding french doors didn't close properly and I didn't feel particularly safe in there as we were right opposite a public beach and carpark on at side. The pool area was quite nice with a lovely large hottub but it was woefully small for a resort of such a size. The restaurant was average but the staff were friendly. I have never complained about holiday accommodation before but we felt that the desciption of this 'resort' (MOTEL!!) was extremely, unfairly misleading and for ordinary families such as ourselves who had paid quite a high price for what we thought was real treat, this was just not right! We had paid less and stayed at less ostentatious establishments on our 2 week journey and they were all of a much higher standard. The best one being The Pelican Cove Inn at San Simeon, which was small and unassuming but memorable for it's pure charm and attention to detail. Our advice to the owners of the Bahia would be 'start again and renovate the whole resort!'. Add another pool, put some thought into your guests needs and be more honest about what you offer! Sadly, we can see from past reviews that the owners have taken no notice!

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/08
I felt like crying when we walked into our bayside room. It smelled horrible, the bed was uncomfortable and the cinder block walls were an eyesore. It is motel 6 quality, definately not worth the price.YUCK!

Ideal place for real families
By tomakazi, 07/15/08
Our family has been visiting this hotel since the early eighties and have always enjoyed the atmosphere surrounding this great hotel. From the setting, to the weather, to the curteous staff, you can't go wrong vacationing with the family at the Bahia. Boating...bike-riding...sandy beach...pool...jacuzzi...playground...tennis courts...work-out room...the Zoo close by...Sea World around the corner...themed dinner nights...access to several other hotels on the bay via boat...camping out in front of your bungalo...priceless !!! This hotel is made to order for the active family that likes to play either indoors or outdoors. If your little pinky finger must point to the sky while eating go somewhere else we don't need you !!!

horrible! Worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
By Jopatty, 06/12/08
The rooms were very outdated. The railing on the stairs and the balconies are not up to current standards, very scary if you have young children. There were weddings scheduled at the Bahia our entire stay there, so two of the nights there we were awake more then we slept.Due to all the wedding guest that were staying next door to our room and were not ready for the party to end yet, there was also no parking due to all the wedding guests. We ended up parking twenty doors down from our room and packing all our luggage and children. Upon speaking to they Bahia staff the best thing they could say is next time there is a noise problem call our security office. The worst thing however, was coming home to find the Bahia had charged my debit card twice for our room. At $250.00 a night x 4 nights x 2 they debited it. It amounts to a lot of money when your on a ten day vacation and not expecting it. The one thing I can find good to say at this point about the Bahia is that they are located in a very beautiful location.
