Anniversary Dinner at Ashley's
By ,
My husband surprised me with dinner at the Capitol Hotel's restaurant, Ashley's. The restaurant and hotel just opened two weeks ago so we had not heard from anyone how the food was. The dining experience was perfect. The wait staff were friendly and knew what we needed before we did. When we arrived my husband mentioned to the hostess it was our anniversary. Later the manager came by and wished us a Happy Anniversary and several other staff members did the same. They have been very well trained. Dinner was delicious. They offer a Prix Fix dinner which was perfect for us. It was 3 courses for only$45.00. Wine was extra but they do have a 5 course dinner with a different wine for each course and it was only $75.00. The chef is from New Orleans and the menu seemed to have a flare for dishes from that area. If you want a relaxing and delightful dining experience I highly recommend Ashley's.

elegant

I stayed at the capital for my first honeymoon night before flying out to Jamaica and had a great experience. Hotels in the same class, but newer just can't compete with the high ceilings, king bed sized elevator, marble floors, etc. because they are built to modern efficiency of space standards.

Classy and Elegant
By ,
This beautiful, historic building is deifinitely not the modern, amenity-filled hotel many travelers have come to expect. But that's not the point here. Some rooms are slightly small, all are tastefully decorated, comfortable, clean and the service is excellent. The only real complaint I have about this hotel is about the clock radio. I'm a former computer programmer, and I cannot set that darn alarm clock to wake me when I want it to! Use the wake-up call instead. The restaurant, room service and "grill" are all very good. Even on infrequent trips, there's a server in the grill who remembers my drink and the bartender makes it just right every time! Food at Ashley's is fantastic, and the grill also provides a nice, although less-formal meal selection and atmosphere. Don't go for the "amenities,: but definitely go... and stay at the Capitol at least once. You owe it to yourself.

Don't spend your honeymoon night here!
By ,
My husband and I booked one of the suites at the Capital Hotel for our honeymoon night. The suites are all located over the Hotel's reception/ball room area. It was not very pleasant or romantic to hear the Rock and Roll band underneath us playing during another couple's wedding reception. The staff was very rude when we asked to move to another room away from the noise. After 2 hours of drama and eventually me crying to the receptionist, we were moved to a tiny room at the back of the hotel. Oh joy.
