dishonest and bad service
By David, 06/28/09
We booked a two-double-bed room for 6/18/2009 stay. Lisa took our order with a good deal of 39.95. We arrived around 6 PM and another lady (Carla?) who declined Lisa's booking with the explanation that Lisa did not enter it to the computer. She would book us with $49.95 of 1-king bed instead. I asked her to honor the $5 coupon which was available throughout the town (even in its registration desk). She declined too. We were short of time for a quick dinner and went to the Mt. Rushmore nightly Lighting ceremony. Also, we were tired from full day driving. Also, the parking slots were awful. It was way too small even for our compact car (Corolla). We saw people were using two slots instead. This is the worst hotel stay for our 11 days summer vacation trip from San Francisco to upper north 8 states.

Noisy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/08
Shared bedroom wall with elevator wall-everytime elevator went up or down was very noisy. Music piped thru system in hotel under the outside entry way was loud-we had windows open and music woke us at 7 in the morning. Front desk staff not friendly. Parking lot was very small-bad location for a hotel.

Avoid this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/08
If you want to enjoy your family vacation, I advise you to stay away from this hotel. My family and I stayed here on our trip to Mt Rushmore. The prices are great, but you will understand why after checking in. The front desk attendees are very young and unprofessional, somewhat 'greasy' looking. The entire complex smells of smoke and grease from the restaurant connected to the hotel. The attendant even told me that she would NOT recommend eating at their own restaurant because she had heard bad things about it and that she would never eat there herself. The worst part about the trip is that during the evening my mother was taking a shower and the hot water went out while she still had shampoo in her hair. We called down to the desk and their response was "everyone in the hotel shares the same water, even the restaurant" and informed us that we should wait for awhile. I was skeptical of this comment considering I've been to many hotels and have never run out of hot water before, no matter how busy they were. Also, who wants to sit in a shower with shampoo in their hair and wait for the water to get hot again??? After a few more hours with no hot water, we got into bed, around 11:30pm the front desk calls our room to inform us that they have maintenance working on the problem (um…thanks for calling, but I’m trying to sleep now!). Sort of strange since before they made it sound as those there was no problem. By morning the hot water was still not working and the hotel admitted that a hot water heater had gone out for one entire wing of the building. I requested that they give us a key to a new room so we could at least take warm showers someplace else, not to mention that I had to run back to the front desk after getting to the new room because it was not furnished with toiletries. Of course when we checked out and requested a discount for the trouble, they were only willing to give us 25% off. We were expecting more and asked to speak with the Manager of the complex. He had the typical 'car salesman' type of personality, and would only offer us an additional $10 off. He seemed uncaring of the situation and only seemed to care about making an extra $1 vs. keeping a good image-so, as we informed him when we left, we are going to inform as many people as possible not to stay at this smelly, unprofessional and vacation ruining hotel. You've been warned...

Great Hotel W/ View
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/10/07
After reading some reviews on here I was worried. Yes the rooms are a little small but it was clean and we even had a view of the faces. The pool and hot tub was wonderful compared to our other hotel on the trip. It was quite and an excellent value. Friendly staff and the resturant down the hill(none on location) had great breakfast. They give you coupons if you ask! I would defenitly stay there agian.

Hassle at check-in, ended up with nice room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/01/07
The location steps away from downtown is excellent, but the check-in left much to be desired. I reserved the 2Q + 1K suite 6 weeks before. The clerk told me my reservation had been cancelled, then he walked away to answer the phone (twice!). The other clerk with more experience realized the management had moved us to another hotel with "an even better room." We drove to the other hotel to discover it was not a better room and they moved us back to the White House for 2 lovely and clean connecting rooms, each with 2Q, at a lower rate. After we suffered a tension-filled hour, the story ended well. At check-out the clerk again tried to bill us double but it was straightened out quickly.

Mixed Thoughts
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/07
Room was certainly comfortable enough for three of us; location to Rushmore and downtown area excellent. two seniors in party had a second room. When I booked, no one told us about senior rates. When we arrived, the neon lights were flashing a special senior rate of $49.95 single ($69.95 for 2). So when we checked in we asked about reducing the quoted rate of $89.95 for the seniors' room. The clerk said it could be adjusted on check out (we checked in late and she could not make the adjustment herself she told us). However, the clerk on check out said "no way" - only if you had a room with only one bed (and the room the seniors were given had two). They certainly would have changed rooms to obtain the lesser rate. We felt totally cheated. Hard to believe that shampoo is not provided - this must be the only hotel in America that doesn't provide it - and no place in town to easily purchase a 3.4 oz. size. With the travel liquid restrictions, this no-shampoo "policy" is difficult to fathom. Tried the breakfast buffet at the hotel. Scrambled eggs were uncooked & runny (maybe some folks like them that way); bacon was cold; cold cereal was stale; fruits were bruised and tired looking (except for the canned pears/peaches); basically it couldn't have looked more unappetizing. And, although free coffee is offered in hotel lobby a few steps away, the restaurant won't allow any drinks to be brought in and charges $1.80 for a cup of coffee.

Washington Inn & Suites
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/06
Near White House Resort, we had the Master Suite and the room was big with a lot of room for the six of us. We didn't even have to use the Sofa bed because it had two queens, 1 king and a sofa bed. We had a kitchenette and a jacuzzi tub. We liked this Hotel, but they could improve on the cleanliness. We looked under the beds to make sure we weren't leaving anything and found a lot of objects that we hadn't brought in. Parking is very tight and limited but were able to park across the street at Visitor Center. This was a great location for seeing Mt. Rushmore. Not a lot of eating choices, so we were grateful to have kitchenette. Also, not too far to Rapid City for a lot more eating choices.

The location to Mount Rushmore was great! The hotel was average. It would have been nice to have complimentary shampoos and soaps. I forgot my own at home and there weren't any at the hotel. Pool was ok. Pricing was great. There's not a lot of restaurants around though.

Tiny rooms, very limited parking
By , 06/25/06
Two families, a 24' RV and an SUV, can not park RV's there, we had to park couple of miles away, half the parking lot marked with cones for a large bus can not park the SUV, very tight stalls. Checking in rooms in various prices, they printed the wrong invoice for $79 I asked them why am I paying 119, they reduced it to $99. Exteremely tiny rooms with a small window A/C and very low ceiling. I will never stay here again. If you are used to half way decent service avoid this hotel. Try Holiday Inn Express I tried there but they were sold out, now I know why. Only good thing is the free wireless internet access, which Holiday Inn Express has free also, which I am using right now to write this review.

Wonderful Experience
By A Yahoo! User, 11/08/05
After 45 years of marriage, my wife and I finally had a chance to visit Mt. Rushmore! What made it a pleasurable visit was the quality room we had at the White House Resort in Keystone. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. If we have the chance, we will return for another visit and definitely stay at the "White House Resort".
