Blantyre, Lenox

We visited Blantyre one afternoon just near dusk the week before Christmas. We wanted to check out the restaurant for a special dinner that night. We called ahead and spoke to a gentleman who said we were welcome to come by and that they were indeed serving dinner that night. When we got there around 4 p.m., the place was dark -- the long driveway and even entryway, which frankly was very hard to find. The only thing lit was a large Christmas tree. We finally found what appeared to be the main door and entered. There was no one insight. Finally we found a man sitting in a cubby hole/office who said we could look around. Shortly after that a woman appeared dressed in black and pretty much gave us the bum's rush. She said there was a private party that night (which I guess the other staff member's weren't aware of) and that we couldn't have dinner there. She made some effort to be polite, but failed. We were shown the door fairly quickly. From what little we could see in the main area, the place was charming, but our treatment was rude and disturbing at best.

My partner and I stayed at this inn earlier this year, and it was the worst experience I have ever had at a "5 star" hotel. Firstly, the room was hugely expensive, which we were expecting, but it was not in great condition. In the middle of the winter, there was no heat in the bathroom, and the tile floor was freezing. The steam shower (which was the rooms "selling point") didn't work because the room was so cold. When we complained about it, the manager and owner ignored our major complaint about no heat, and didnt offer us any discount, wine, nothing. They sent people up to our bathroom but there simply was no heater- so nothing could be done. In the same conversation, we had mentioned as an aside that the TV was incredibly small and we had tried to watch a movie the night before(as one of our little complaints). Well, the owner made a huge deal about that, instead of listening to our big complaint- that we were paying a huge amount of money (1,000 a night) to stay in a room with a freezing bathroom. Because we were young, she made a big deal about how people of "our generation" care so much about TVs, and said she would do us huge by bringing us a larger TV from another room. I said I didnt want it but she insisted; she acted like she was giving us her first born or something, and told us she had taken the TV from the room of friends of hers who were staying there and had given them a nice bottle of wine... it was so bizarre. After bringing us a bigger TV, which we never watched, the owner conntinued to bother us, making our stay so uncomfortable. She actually came up to use on Valentine's night asking how the TV was and gave us a list of places we should stay in the are "should we ever return" with big TV's- no joke. She listed off the hotels in the area with big TV's and asked me if I wanted a written list, I said no. She then was so rude that she wrote out a list of places with big TVs and brought it to me- to make clear that we werent wanted there or something. Well, I wouldnt stay at this hotel again if someone paid ME $1,000 a night. I have never been so offended or disgusted by management in my life. I feel that the owner felt she could treat us however she wanted because we are in our twenties, not our sixties. No matte that we were paying guests trying to enjoy a romantic weekend together. We left that "vacation" feeling so stressed and unhappy, and I felt terrible that I had planned a "romantic" weekend with my partner, spent a great deal of money, and that he and I were treated that way.

There was no heat in the bathroom. The tile floor was freezing. The steam shower didn't work either beacause the room was cold. The manager was rude. I wouldn't stay here again.

The check in process was odd, the owner Mrs. Brown and three really lovely staff members welcomed us..directed us to our room immediately.We stayed in the Blue room which was ok--not worth the $$$$ we paid but it was a special occassion. The owner Mrs. Brown actually told me to be quiet as I was walking up the stairs! I was in awe --I am the guest! The main building is too stuffy and dark, we really felt displaced-- the owner is always there!! Really everything appears to be artificial & staged the staff quite lovely but always hovering. Everyone wears B LACK! This is 2010-- really not worth the $$$ not a pleasant place to vist.

Staying at Blantyre is like staying in the home of a wealthy friend who is totally devoted to your comfort and enjoyment. Every detail is perfect, the furnishings are gorgeous, and the staff is wonderful. I met the owner and can't imagine her dressing down a staff member, especially in front of a guest. She's a classy lady.

The place is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. However, I had the unpleasant experience of watching the owner berate an employee for no apparent reason. It was very disturbing and I am not sure I would go here again. The restaurant was okay. Not worth the $$.

It was a hundred years ago(just kidding) when I use to take my family down for dinner. There was an elderly afro-american who waited on us and he made two children feel at home,I thank you for that.My father was Chief of police at that time in North Adams,Michael W.Conlon maybe "Jack" would remember him.Anyway I was wondering if dinner was served at all at anytime so I could bring my wife down to see your place.

What can I say, a fantastic weekend with my wife. We are avid tennis players and the courts were very nice, as was the lemonade provided courtside. Dinner was one probably the finest I have ever had, with a wine list that has something for every $$$$. the spa offers a wonderfully heated pool at just the right temp. Everyone of the staff were pleasant and accomodating for every request.
